Rumours are circulating that man city want to put a bid in for jay rod in January. Certainly a good move for a player like him to go and get paid an extraordinary weekly wage to play on Tuesdays in the reserve squad!

He may well look at the likes of Rodwell, Sinclair etc and decide that making up the numbers of English player is not conducive to getting him in the England squad.

2.) 10 Sep 2014
The latest rumour is linking him to city in a part ex deal involving Sinclair, this will keep their English contingent as it is enabling them to compete in Europe with Home grown in their squad. I'd still keep him over any amount of money even if it includes sinclair!

Saw this reported.

Let's be clear: if Man City bid, Jay Rod will likely want to leave. Players don't care about sitting on the bench or examples of others players failing to make it.
They will be drawn by big clubs, wages, bonuses and the chance to test themselves.

I think we are all pleasantly surprised that Southampton played hardball with Schneiderlin but that isn't always enough. Shaw had been unhappy for over a year before he moved on. Unhappy players will always leave at some point, whether the club, owners, manager or fans like it or not.

Let's wait and see

Yes, Fatdave, let's wait and see! And let's NOT suggest Jay Rod will "likely want to leave" and "unhappy players will always leave"
Jay Rod may be deliriously happy and have no intention of leaving, or he might be reasonably happy but by Christmas following good progress by Saints, he might be moving towards being deliriously happy. IT IS ALL SPECULATION.

We are like a patient who has had a rotten tooth removed but can't resist prodding about to see if we can still make it hurt!

As I said, let's wait and see. But as I also said, if a bid comes in, he want likely want to leave. Coherent and cogent analysis ;)

Fatdave-it certainly ISN'T a coherent and cogent anything, let alone an analysis!

Jay Rod will hopefully be playing before Christmas, and will hopefully get back to match fitness and not suffer any limitations from his injury, over a period of months. BUT he will have dropped down the pecking order for England and he will recognise that to move back up that pecking order will require him to play as much as he can during the rest of the season. So, IMO, he needs a move to a club that will see him playing off and on like a hole in the head.
I suspect, he could then think again next summer, but for this season I suspect he has the awareness to realise that Saints is the best place for him.

Saint Martin and Fat Dave I understand why you are having the will he won't he conversation with regards to jay rod he is a wanted saints player.
I think, and I have said this before that if a player wants to go then they will go and neither there current mood or the club will stop that process one in motion.

Morgan did not go because spurs did not want to spend (or do not have the cash) at this point to buy him hence the the inclusion of townsend in the deal.

I fear (and I hope I am 1000% wrong) that he will go at the end of the season for all of the reasons that fat dave states and until we have a bigger ground and are really pushing for european football on a regular basis we will always lose are best players to bigger clubs.

Crap I know but true and historically evidenced:
chivers to spurs for 125k a british record at the time over 40 years ago

Channon to city

Shearer to rovers

Bale to spurs

walcott to arsenal

Ox to Arsenal

And then of course this summer half the team

keep the faith I see three points this afternoon and a top ten finish

Yes, the summer might be difficult regarding Jay Rod.
But do not forget a player who can achieve a regular place in the England team is likely to make more money through branding etc. then he would achieve from a wage for a club like City and then sit on the bench-Wayne Bridge? There have been may examples where young English players have ruined their careers by such moves. At some time they will see the light but it will all depend on how strong they resist the easy option and how much influence their agent has.

Even big clubs lose tgeir players though, look at ronaldo from utd. And roben from Chelsea. Kaka from Milan and ivrahimovic from barca. It's part of football, players DO move on, it's just hard when do many go at once, it worries fans as it may look like they are going for a reason that us fans aren't privy to.

Where is the evidence that Luke Shaw was actually unhappy here? He must be a bit more upset at failing to walk into the Man Utd first team, playing for the Under 21's wasn't what he imagined I suspect! He would have had four Premier games by now had he not forced the change. Others should be realising that the grass is not always better on the other side of the fence, even if you are getting mega bucks for sitting on someone elses lawn.

{Ed001's Note - actually he was injured.}

11.) 20 Sep 2014
FatDave, your effectively saying if a big club goes for a player offering massive amounts of money they will go there. well can I remind u of Clyne, Schneiderlin (when he 1st joined us) Ramirez, Alderweireld etc. ALL of these players had offers to go to a "bigger club" but chose Saints. why do you think that might be?

Not sure if Shaw was injured, he was reported not fit, too many Big Macs? He is fit now and was the most expensive spectator today at Le'ster, are they scared to play him or what?
