Well here we are 11 games in and the pundits are still saying it is too early to look at Saints as being contenders for a place in Europe. In 8 games time we will have played everybody and it will be half way through the season but I expect it will still be the same old thing that we'll blow up, annoying. I find it incredible that it's too early for them to make an appraisal of our position but since the 2nd or 3rd game it has been who is coming 2nd to Chelsea, so they can make early predictions there. Why won't the media and football pundits accept that we could possibly make 4th spot and to be honest I haven't seen any team that we can't beat so far this season even the great Chelsea and City. I hope we have a good December, what a Xmas present that could be.

Our next four games will tell us how we're doing this season.

Look at the table this time last season Saints in 3rd Saints only let in 5 goals played 2 of the big teams but ended up in 8th
This season Saints in 2nd Saints only let in 5 goals played 2 of the big teams but you reckon that the pundits have it wrong to not get carried away and say we will end up 4th. Did you say last season at this stage we were going to end up 4th?

The difference this year @thepropleschoice is that, although our performance has equalled that of our performance last season, the performance of the others that finished in the top four have been significantly poorer. We are four points clear of city. Which we all know means that we can afford to lose a game and then to win a game and we will still be second. Liverpool are 11 points adrift of us. Utd and Spurs are even further adrift. They are all losing matches tagainst opponents that we are beating and to be honest, it doesn't look like changing anytime soon.

I think that we are playing better this year, with a far better squad. Our team seems to have better balance, and we are far more direct this year, rather than trying to pass teams off the park.
If there was a criticism of MoPo's Saints it was that most of the time we dropped points, we didn't create enough chances despite having dominant possession.

Injuries to key players, tied in with tough fixtures, a little self destructing and a slight loss of belief all contributed to our relative slump last year. This year, who can say what will happen. Personally I believe that we can finish top 4, but we need that little bit of luck. You'd have to question what happens if we loose Tadic and Pelle to injury or suspension. J_Rod coming back will be like another signing strengthening us further, but will he be sold? Will we sign anyone in January?

Who knows what will happen. All I know is that it's a bloody good ride!

In agreement with most on this one. It was about this time last year we had a very poor run, I think there are several reasons for this. Mainly we had injuries to Lovren and Luke Shaw and don't forget we did not have Wanyama acting as the defences headmaster along with Morgan, I know he was playing but Victor must be the most improved player this year. We also had a manager who only had Plan A so many teams were sussing us out by then. We have strength in depth now especially in midfield and defence. We believe in our ability and will keep going no matter what which I put down to the spirit of the side as RoKo puts it. Finally as already mentioned other teams that are supposed to be above us in the league if you listen to the pundits and media are struggling to even draw with the teams we have already beaten easily. It is these teams who have the problem not us, the magic carpet ride continues and what a great ride it is.
