Hi Eds, it's that time of the season again when us Saints fans get a little ( or lot ) excited about possible players leaving.
I know there will be the usual gossip of Schneiderlin and Rodriguez going but also been reading a bit about JWP and Wanyama, any truth in these and any info on possible in's especially with Martin Odegaard. Thanks

{Ed001's Note - from what I have been told, there is likely to be very little in the way of outs in January. There is a feeling of wait and see if they make the Champions League. So the only outs will be those Koeman has decided to move on, for whatever reason, I believe. Cork is the one who looks in the most danger, due to his contract, though Koeman would be happy for him to stay and sign a new contract. The issue is playing time, he wants more, he wants to be in there when everyone is fit and that is unlikely to happen.

Odegaard has a large number of options available to him, it is down to his personal decision where he ends up. The top 3 teams in Europe, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all got offers on the table to him, but he is unlikely to get in any of their first teams, so who knows? I doubt he knows himself yet.

I am told there are 3 main areas of concern for the Saints this January, though I wouldn't expect them to be all dealt with at once this window unless you are very lucky. A striker, defensive cover and a keeper. I am told that Southampton are amongst the interested parties for Fiorentina's keeper, who is out of contract in the summer. I don't have names for the other two positions sorry.}

Thanks for your input
Onwards and upwards

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome mate, sorry it took a while to reply, I was trying to get a name on a forward. Still waiting on that, or names if there are a couple of possibles. I will just post them when I finally do get them.}

Looks like the club have got the above 3 positions right, and hope they can get cover especially up front ( Jordan Rhodes ) !!

I just feel Jordan Rhodes is too risky, never played Premier League level and too much money to take a chance, we don't want another expensive flop on our hands. If we are going for a top six place we need to buy the right player that may cost 20million + but not just buy for the sake of it. I think he might bring in a loan player that is on high wages and see what happens with J Rod when he eventually returns. J Rod will take several matches to get his feel back because it was obvious with Theo on his comeback for the Arsenal yesterday that he was very rusty. If J Rod doesn't come back as the player he was we might then try to sign the loan player. We definitely need right full back cover as well, JWP looked like a fish out of water yesterday.

Rhodes has potential in abundance, and wud'nt cost any more than we paid for Long!, but I do get your point about the experienced proven one. I noticed today that Anderson from United is not used any more and if we are going to loose one of are midfielders next season then I'd take him on loan to see how he fits in !!.

I understand what you are saying Trevor but you will never convince me that 12 million for Shane was nothing short of insane, seemed almost a last minute panic buy. I therefore can't agree with your comparison on this one. People will say Koeman knows what he is doing, look at where we are in the league and in almost without question they are right. However with Shane just being a fringe player do you think that Ronald might deep down think he was a bit impulsive over his purchase and given his life to live over again might do things differently ?
