On the BBC gossip site this morning - Man City want Toby, although it does state that we have a £6.8m option to buy.

all comes down to this supposed 1.8m opt out close for athletico. hopefully there is no truth but i fear Toby would rather go to city and partner Kompany.

They may have this in the agreement but if the player doesn't want to stay here I am afraid that's that. He might stay though, he seems a genuine guy but probably like the rest listens to his money grabbing agent too much. Just on another subject SKY have given us ZERO tv live games in April, so they obviously still think we are going to crash and burn . Does anybody else think this is just unbelievable ? What have we got to do to get properly recognised . It just makes me angry, still let's show them it is their mistake especially when Liverpool are 7 points behind us at 6.15 on Sunday.

It's obvious that athletico will exercise the opt out clause and then sit back and watch a bidding war which will generate far far more money than the 6.8 million we were going to buy him at. Unfortunately that's business in the football world and we would do the same if the position was reversed. Let's get him back playing Asap and cross that bridge when we come to it. Big game Sunday and hopefully payback time. Full house again and hopefully a very loud and noisy support for the lads in red and white stripes. COYR's

I think it's more a question as to whether the clause exists, as neither saint not atleti have said anything.
It just seems unbelievable that Saints would agree to that, but hey. Hope he does stay!

It seems fairly inevitable that Alderweireld will get better offers than Saints. He's proving himself week in week out in the Premier League, available for transfer, a good age (25), a regular Belgian international, versatile (CB, RB, DMC), a title-winner in Holland and Spain.

There are bigger clubs than Saints who need to sort out their defence and they'll be able to offer Alderweireld a lot more than Saints can, not only in wages but also, probably, in terms of European football. There may even be a chance of Atletcio selling off a first choice CB in the summer (Godin or Miranda) and wanting to keep hold of Toby.

But that's the way it goes with loans. Ryan Bertrand worked out and Saints were able to persuade him to sign permanently. Alderweireld has been excellent (when fit) but may well not stay on. Such is life. We can't complain at the job he's done or his attitude or commitment to the cause this season.

I'm sure Koeman, Les Reed and the black box have their eyes on alternative options for next season (possibly a Feyenoord youngster like Kongolo).

This is why I just can't understand loans especially when we had all that income from the selling of most of our players. I would have understood if like other clubs we had to loan due to financial fair play but we didn't need to. If he didn't want to be at saints we could have made at least £14million selling at £20million when you think how well he has done and how much better/versatile he is to lovren. Really annoying!

Our Premier League (with the vast amount of money flooding in from Sky and BT ) is getting more attractive to European footballers and their agents by the day. Toby has expressed his interest in staying but it's out of his hands. Ralph Kruegar has openly stated that "all is in place for European football" that means financially as well. Obviously we are not at the stage yet where we can go out and throw 150 million about like Man (Monopoly money) Utd but slow but sure we will grow and expand and get in amongst the big boys. Will be interesting on Sunday against Liverpool and I hope that Lambert and Llalana get the respect they deserve. As for Lovren . COYR's

we would have struggled massively to buy anyone of alderweirelds quality. so loan was a fantasic move.

We've used the loan system well.

Shame we didn't when we bought Osvaldo.

The loans we've brought in recently have all worked fantastically well so far, and we seem to be adding options to buy, therefor removing any risk associated with another Osvaldo situation.

Makes sense to me.
