My tottenham mates in Perth are convinced that Levy's trip to Atletico is for the transfer of Mario Suarez. They even admitted that they would be surprised if Levy travelled for Toby. I couldn't help agreeing. Paulinho has left spurs, Capoue and Stambouli on their way out to Watford, and Dembele's future still up in the air. Leaving spurs short of CMF Options, whereas they have plenty CB's (Albeit pending departures of Kaboul and Chiriches) even then they'll be left with at least 4 CBs. Makes more sense to me.

Toby is more right back/defensive midfielder than a centre back. But hope your right.

Guess you didn't watch Toby play much last year did you Chippie71?

The main thing right now is not to get drawn in by all the media attention that Spurs are getting concerning Toby. If you think we are not also in direct communication with Atletico then you'd be mistaken. It would be in Atletico's interest to listen to both team's offers, but it's very likely it will be down to the player's choice in the end.

Think Toby played right back twice. Defensive mf a couple when spider was injured.
Plays right back for Belgium and played mainly right back for athletico. Cb is his preferred natural position. That was part of the lure of joining saints was the fact we could offer him a starting Cb role

The latest update is that we may have under bid Atletico's valuation of £14 million at £9.5 million and they are now expected to have discussions with Tottenham today and see what bid they come in with.

If Tottenham are after Mario Suarez as well they would probably have to offer about £20 million for the two. I'm not convinced they are willing to pay this, unless they now feel it's a necessity given that Liverpool have strengthened, more than likely they will try to flog one of their players in any deal. Soldado or Fazio could be a tempting offer, however Spurs will want to recoup as much money back if they involved either of them in a deal.

Although we may have placed a low bid I think we will be willing to match their valuation with cash unfront, which could be more beneficial to Atletico right now. Supposedly Atletico want a deal done by Wednesday.

Aside from the first paragraph, admittedly the rest is just my guesswork!

I don't know if anybody has noticed but most of the banter regarding the supposed transfer of Toby to Spurs rather than us has mainly been circulated by the press on blogs issued by Tottenham websites. I believe they are playing mind games and that there is nothing sorted either way at the moment.

Daily mail have said Spurs have agreed fee with
Athletico Madrid for Toby 11.5 million! Disappointed if saints have let this happen.

Daily Fail is just selling headlines. This isn't game over yet by any means.

Another point to mention, if we didn't think we had a chance in convincing Toby to join Saints we wouldn't carry on negotiating. Clearly if an agreement is made with Atletico, then the club believe Toby will join.
