Has anyone else heard about the club buying the old ford site and building a 51-56k stadium?

This was banded around a couple of years ago. Don't think there is any truth in it.

Free transfer . 2 year contract to fill the squad and add experience for the young ones to learn from. Can't be a bad thing.

It was mentioned a couple of years ago, can't see there being much truth in it although it would be perfect for transport links.

Realistically, could we sell out a stadium that size?

Supposedly in 2012 or 2013 the club requested planning permission on part of the site to build a 50k stadium, train station and something else (can't remember what exactly - might have been a sports complex or hotel) I think any further action on the site depended on how full St Mary's was throughout the year as to whether it would have been sensible to spend that amount of money on a new stadium or just concentrate on expanding St Marys

Then the sunseeker owner bought some of the site, possibly the same bit the club were looking at, which then became the basis of all the rumours of Cortese returning with another buyer for the club

A stadium expansion has been explored BUT will not happen unless we are maxed capacity constantly. Quote.

As long as we are in the premier league esso14 we will hit target I fear the fair weather fans will stop if there was a twist of fate god forbid

Yes as SaintySaintSaint says the rumours were true, but no idea what the state of play is currently.

As esso14 has stated, expansion has been explored, with a possible date of 16/17 season for decisions being made.

The problem with expansion is that the infrastructure around St Marys is so poor that it will be expensive to expand, and the expansion size is limited - I can't quite remember to what size but I think it may be around the 45k mark and only on three sides of the stadium.

This has led the club to look at alternative sites - indeed they were looking at alternative site when they were still in Division 1 - got to love the ambition!
