So if Van Dijk does end up going to Man U or even Liverhampton I would expect a hefty fee for him as he only signed a new long term contract. Any news of a possible replacement or who would people like to see? Me for one I would like to see him stay at least for another season.

{Ed002's Note - I would not be suprised to see Southampton move again for Matthias Ginter if they need a new centre back.}

I think the mega contract was done for exactly that reason, ensuring we would receive top money. I think he will go at the end of the season. It even feels the media, commentators and pundits are doing the sales pitch. 40 million though surely. the thing that could make it hard is if fonte goes aswell, replacing both centre halts at the same time could be tricky. but not sure fonte is on anyone's radar. peaked?

So the media and so called expert pundits are putting virgil up for sale because he's playing well and must be too good to play for saints even though he just signed a new 5 year contract which means we don't have to sell anyone the mega sky pay out we get pays for the improved contracts that our best have signed so let them talk if we don't want to sell we will stand firm for a change and tell anyone who comes sniffing to do one.

Erm not meaning to be funny and by no way do I want it to happen but have you seen the last few years. Anyone with a cheque book has had their pickings. Whether you or I like it van dijk will not be a saints player forever. The positive is Southampton know this so have whacked a huge contract on him. Anyone ever heard of a player signing a new 6 year contract. after 6 months.

if that Chinese lot take over, we will sell and not buy, they ran at a £48m loss last year and will look to recoup that plus the buy out fee.

Luke shaw signed a long extension the year before he left for Utd. All a long contract actually does is inflate the fee of a player, not keep him. Plus Southampton are notorious in the last 10-15 years of selling players as they grow. The only positive is that very VERY few of them actually go on to achieve anything. Most of them fade away after leaving is. The exception is Bale obviously, but aside from that, who has actually left and bettered themselves? You could argue Lallana has, but not by much.

I'd say lallana has improved obviously bale and think clyne has just stayed decent like he was at saints if shaw can stay fit I think he will be special.

We said all that when Theo and the Ox left us, but my point is that very few actually do any better than they did when they were here. It's just a case of the players that are here seeing that and realising that the grass isn't greener.

Perhaps Southampton would look at Rubem Semedo and Mathias Ginter.
I'd hope they looked at Kolodziejczac, too; rumoured pre van Dijk, has worked with Puel at Lyon, getting little playtime at Sevilla yet is clearly talented.
