Eds what is happening with the Wesley Hoedt transfer?
Are we going to hear anything today?

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure what you are expecting to hear today - as the transfer cannot be completed today. I would expect, subject to any last minute hiccups, to see it completed in the coming days. This ends interest in Ben Gibson.}

Thanks Ed002. Much appreciated.

If we sign Hoedt does that mean any deal for Wimmer is over? I've seen West Brom are interested in him.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, I would think so.}

Do you still think VVD will be sold Ed002? Lots of reports have said Hoedt is expected to partner and not replace him. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I suspect he will.}

Hoedt in lazio squad tonight, so surely his move isn't quite imminent yet.

Good news Lazios sports director has confirmed that hoedt will join saints this week.

When this happens, and it looks like a when rather then and If will be the time that we see if the board are true to their word about VVD staying.
If he stays and can get his head back into the game we will have one of the strongest back fours in the league.
Fingers crossed.

{Ed002's Note - You have to remember his position is completely untenable and keeping him will likely do more damage than good. Clubs need to wrest power back from the players: Some players at high profile teams (in particular in the Premier League and a few other individual players dotted around Europe) are not fully focussed on doing what they are employed to do, and in many cases are paid well to do. Then they need to be asked if they buy in to the club and the future – if they don’t their agents can be told that the club is happy for them to find new employers for their charges. In the case of van Dyke Southampton will perhaps limit who they might sell him to - or maybe for one club add £10M to his price.}

Eds is their a possibility VVD is about to play for U23s and if so what does this mean?

{Ed002's Note - I don't know, but if he is it will be to assess his fitness.}

You keep saying his position is untenable Ed, but what is different here to with Wanyama and Schneiderlin in the past? Is it not fair to say that if he's still here when the window closes, Van Dijk will come back and play for us until next year. His advisors would tell him to do so, since a year on the sidelines or performing badly will only stand in the way of him getting the move he wants.

I don't know if I'm missing something here, but you keep saying it's untenable and I don't see why. He's on a 6 year contract so as far as I can see the power rests firmly with the club, provided we have the balls to use it (i. e. reject offers and say to VVD you're playing for us this year at least) .

Any explanation would be appreciated.

{Ed002's Note - The fans will destroy him. He has made it clear that he doesn't want to play for the club, he has not made himself available for selection, he has submitted a transfer request and he has made that public. It is nothing at all to do with any other players. Clubs do not like to have disgruntled players at the club and they know it can be disruptive.}

If I saw a fan doing anything other than backing him on a matchday then I'd be furious. It seems an awkward situation and clearly not ideal, but not untenable to me. I reckon a few good performances would put most of these problems to bed, particularly those relating to the fans. We tend to have short memories.

Of course, if he was causing issues behind the scenes with the players themselves then that is totally different.

Thanks for the explanation though, much appreciated as always.

{Ed002's Note - It is well beyond awkward. I really don't see how he can play for the first team again.}

Thanks for the input Ed. I hope you are wrong. When Spider handed in a transfer request we seemed to resolve the situation quickly and he was playing and training with the first team fairly quickly. With VVD it's dragged on a lot longer. I for one would welcome him back even if it is just for a season. Whether he comes back into the fold time will tell. With a World Cup loaming though he will want to be playing first team football that is for sure.

{Ed002's Note - It is time for him to move on. He is badly damaged goods and needs to start again elsewhere. It is very clear he has zero interest in or respect for Southampton.}

I disagree here. When the window has closed and VVD has the realisation he isn't going anywhere for the time being I will bet my bottom dollar he apologises to the club and is then reintergrated into the first team. Just watch and see! Aslo with the new dutchman being signed you neever know he may be tempted to stay if the club can push on with the new investment.

After all that has gone on with Van Dyck who has shown total disrespect for the club and the supporters how can anybody just say ok then come back. He can't treat the club like he has and we just turn round and say that's alright Virgil. We can't. If we do he wins .

He doesn't win, he wanted to go to Liverpool and we have said no. We win by shoing the rest of the squad they can't just leave when ever they feel like it.
