I'm wondering where all this world-class 'scouting' set-up has gone? I know it's still pretty early, but the two transfers in have come because of Koeman, and we're now linked with two more Feyenoord players. Where are these long period scouted players we've monitored for months?

And all the top quality players banging on the door? Or was that just the top quality players who want to go?

Do you think Cortese employed and recruited all these players and managers the last 5 years all on his own? No he didn't. Reed and others had a huge imput.

The lack of signings is probably due to us aiming 'too high' as it were but what's the point in just buying average players just to make up the numbers when you have a youth system like ours? Be patient saints fans the signings will come.

Reed has a poor record as a manager but a good record as a behind-the-scenes man. Here are some highlights:

2002-2004 Technical Director of the FA, authored the coaching manual (what you think of this depends on your opinion of the FA, I suppose).

2007-2008 Director of Football at Fulham.

Before and in between these appointments he had a coaching and managerial career, but was generally not well thought of as a manager.

So, it's not a glorious history, but it probably stacks up well enough to other people in his post at other second-tier premiership clubs. I'm not entirely convinced by the man myself, but he is well-regarded and experienced, especially compared to other people who have tried to run the footballing operation of the club in the past. Lowe, Wilde, and Crouch--all businessmen with no football experience--come to mind.

Who's to say we haven't been building up dossiers on Pelle and Tadic for months? In fact, I'd hope we had extensive information on two of the top performers in the Eredivisie. In the end, of course, it's Koeman who decides which of all the players we've ever scouted he actually wants to sign, and he wanted these two, partly because he was already familiar with them. Nothing wrong with that.

Those signings where more from the 'Cortese side' Due to his Italy connections, same with Papa Waigo and Guly. He had connections with thier agents, also Mayuka was his signing as he used to watch young boys games when he was in switzerland. They worked out well didn't they. TBF I think and hope Ramirez can take the league by storm this season with Lallana out the picture! COYR
