We should say no to Utd for Fonte unless they offer £25 million .

We need to concentrate on our own survival in this league not allow others to walk all over us. The PL is turning into a bore.

After yesterday's display, it must be clear to everyone that we lacked creation and upfront height. That means at least two others MUST be brought in.

Could it be that we just want to ditch the Europa Cup?

The message that Les and Puel are giving is not fueling any optimism.

It would help if the club were to make a statement. Are we just planning to survive and nothing else?

It's not "the message that Les and Puel are giving", its the "the message" that you have concluded yourself after 90 minutes of league football and over 2 weeks of transfer time left.
What Les and Puel want to send has already been stated by them through interviews and statements this season. Of course theory and practice don't always go hand in hand and its up to the saints management to keep hold of their word and prove that they know what they're talking about.
If you think the players aren't giving their all when you watch a Euro cup match then you can question our commitment regarding European football and whether we're trying to purposely ditch it or not. But since we haven't played a euro cup match at all its best to keep the faith and stay optimistic.

Agree, but the optimism needs to be grounded in realism or realistic optimism
I love the Saints (been a supporter since 1978) but this season with the outgoings and the way in which other teams have bought (including buying our players) I don't see us finishing in the top half of the table.

I was looking Arsenal and Liverpool game 5 of the 7 goals were scored by ex-Saints players - we've sold some great players over the seasons, we need to start saying no.

I have read. Your posts Vick and am of the opinion that you either do not attend our games or that you are ill advised and have an opinion that is outside the box to most other fans that attend on a regular basis.
The best football played in France I'm afraid comes nowhere near the standard, quality and speed and directness of the premier league . And yes I know this for a fact as does most experienced football fans.
I admire the fact that you are backing the club and Puel as our manager, but will you be doing this come January when we are struggling at the wrong end to the table. I don't think so!
Yoshida is not good enough to help keep us up if it comes to it. Playing the equivalent of 442 football no matter who we play in midfield is just not going to cut it.
I will be the first to hold my hands up and apologise if I am found out to be wrong, but at present I cannot see that.
It seems that Fonte is off to MUFC, no matter what you say . It's happening unless the board and Les in particular grow some balls and start enforcing the contracts that players have signed and stop taking the money without re I forcing the squad.
I need to get this off my chest because those rose tinted glasses are well beyond their sell by date . Get real and get a grip as this is going to be one long hard slog of a season for SFC.

1x1 I have a few questions for you, I am not trying to fight as I think we can all agree we love saints and want to see them successful. Who do you think the club should be looking at in terms of signings? You obviously went yesterday I didn't and don't go to many games due to work and distance. Was there no positives for you? Because all other reports say Redmond had a good game as did tadic and hojberg when he came on and there were some positives. Thanks.

Definitely agree tht one or two people seem to be a bit denial, tunnel vision, etc. I mean you are allowed to question the board. If you never question those in power they'll just walk all over you. I see some people with bizarre comments about how we shoudnt sign anyone, happy with the squad we have, we shouldn't spend big (cos we don't wanna do a leeds is the reason that is always dragged out - I look at our spending, and I think we can relax, we are definitly not going to do a Leeds) I dunno what kind of football fan doesn't want their club to sign some exciting players, but there we go. Sometimes I wonder if some of the posters work for Saints PR department.
BUT the transfer window hasn't closed, we can't judge too much until it does. Fonte hasn't been sold. Puel is not a bad manager, and he is much more experienced and successful than Koeman who is just a big name to impress muppets due to fact he used to be a famous player.
We obviously need a cb, even if Fonte stays (never win when Yosh plays sorry, he can be our no 4 cb, no problem), an attacking marquee type signing (ie someone good) and I guess there are questions re holding mid and another number 10, as Tadic can't play every game. If we sign someone quality (Slimani, bit of a longshot) a qualty young cb, and I don't know that Rog guy, then you'll hear no complaints from me re board's intentions.

Unfortunately as fans we can't to nothing in the situation with Fonte. Not so long ago he was taking players to one side trying to convince them to stay and what a great club Saints were. How the situation changes. Hope he stays but if he slinks off its not for anything other than money as far as I'm concerned. Let's wait and see what resolve the board has. Agree that at least £25 mill should be the selling price - no less.

Regarding your reply 1x1, you are correct that I rarely attend matches because I'm currently abroad and I'm not local as the rest of you are but rest assure that I do care about the club and I do want the best for us.

I do my best to try and watch as many matches and possible either watching it live or having to stream it at 1 a. m. and travel to England whenever the slightest openig becomes available. I have watched every aired friendly and our first match of the season.

I don't think I have ever said anything regarding the fonte situation (? ) But I'm afraid you are right about Yoshida. He's just not good enough.
Football is a strange game. There will always be divided opinions among fans whether the club has done enough to progress further. But come end of the season one section just has to eat their humble pie, whether it's the rose tinted optimists or the grounded realists.

We can read in to every analysis there is, transfers, player performances, off the field situations and such, but ultimately it's the end of this season that determines how far we've come. And by then its either the question of you being right or me being right, and I will admit that I'm wrong when the former happens. In truth and I must confess, I don't see us reaching the same heights as last season. Nor do I think we'll go far in europe considering the many big teams in there.

I don't even think we're going to win against utd. But I am not going to predict wherever we'll be come end of season based on just one match. That's my honest opinion and I'm sorry if my rose tinted optimism frustrates you, but I am not going to change my views until I'm proven wrong.

I say if we make some decent signings we can do as well as last season.
