We are embarrassing, our defending is just awful, really need to recruit this summer and not sell but we will do the same old sell all our best players and by cheap.

I think that's a bit harsh. maybe a knee jerk reaction . a second string centre half pairing against champions who were pretty good coming forward. granted we do look all at sea at the back but my only concern is what about next year. if van dijk goes. what's the plan? And why is casceres not getting a game? Pay to play term in his contract?

We conceded 3 awful goals that could of been dealt with better Chelsea's 4th goal was great play but the other 3 were just messy and poorly defended.

I think Caceres and Hassan need a game Forster is just not himself this season and Stephens just isn't good enough for me.

It's not just last night's game though is it he's terrible he has cost us so many points any ball that comes close to his body he can't get down to he's just so big and immobile can any of you lot truly say he's a good goalkeeper except the west brom game ill give him that but 3 points saved doesn't make up for the goals he could ànd should have saved. Read the back post on the ugly inside about when he was at Newcastle.

So many of these posts are totally dim-witted. Forster clearly lost confidence after the injury, but he has not lost his ability.

Our defensive structure has been centered on our central defensive pairing of two loud defenders: Fonte and his partner. However, after Fonte was sold and van Dijk injured we had only quiet defenders in our back line; none of them are leaders. You can watch interviews, Cédric, Bertrand, Yoshida and Stephens are quiet, hardworking guys. They do not perform to the same ability when there are no leaders around them. An example can be seen, too, in midfield with Romeu's suspension; the midfield didn't perform with the same efficiency.

However, a lack of leadership at the back is not the key reason Forster hasn't been performing. Stephens and Yoshida are both deeper lying defenders, van Dijk brings our line forward and approaches attackers, whereas our other central defenders sit off and defend in numbers (currently lacking the ability to prevent attacks alone) and thus we have allowed teams to shoot from further forward. We have been conceding more goals from inside the box recently, Forster is most effective when dealing with shots from outside the box or crossers (because our usual defensive line prevents direct attacks and encourages wide play) .

Ultimately, Forster's decline stems from a change in the defensive system. As well as narrow-minded, pathetic jeerings from form-focused "fans" depleting his confidence, further, not from his inability to perform at the top level.

Southampton did well to score two goals against the league leaders, who had 5 defenders shielded by Kanté and Matic, while missing our captain and fielding a striker just back from injury.

Let's fully support the team against Hull.

I agree with the support and players, especially a goalkeeper is hugely confidence based, no of course he still has the ability but for long periods of the season, no matter who's playing centre half he has not been good enough. I don't know if its injury or change in style of training or something but he's not comfortable or confident. but if he's shipping goals that's an issue he has to sort . or surely be dropped .? Can't keep playing him because he played well against arsenal and he used to be great. he just hasn't looked natural to me as a goalkeeper and actually is terrible at commanding his box, terrbible at holding the ball and his rubbish stopping is . well let's say unorthodox to be polite. I'm not disputing his ability I'm disputing his position, and surely his has to be in question.
