Lfc fan here in peace. If I'm being totally honest here guys the whole vvd debacle has left a sour taste in the mouth and the way my club has gone about the whole situation is bang out of order. I've just read on the lfc page that ed002 has commented on vvd position being un-tenable at the saints now.

I can't seem to find this post so thought I would ask you guys. Is the recent refusal to play just happened or has this been the problem for a couple months that's why he hasn't played at the end of the season?

I know he had an ankle injury but if I remember correctly he was supposedly touch and go for the semi against us in league cup. Anyway I don't see how LFC and vvd can save face now how would you guys like to see this whole fiasco settled now.

Vvd gets made to stay and face that he for a long contract? Lfc finally make an appropriate bid of £65 / £70m and end this? Or maybe a 3rd option sell him on to a different club (although maybe less than what lfc offer)?

Player power ruins the game these days and if I'm being honest I belive lfc might have a similar scenario upcoming with coutinho.

Agree totally. If a player signs a contract then that's it. He cannot go unless the club say so. If the club do not want him to go then they are absolutely right to slap a huge fee on him.

If he doesn't want to play for the club then why did he sign a new deal only 12 months ago?

Given the issue SFC have with LFC then SFC has every right to say 80 million or get stuffed. If the player refuses to honour his contract then don't pay him. Don't allow him to train with the club. The club must be bigger than the player, every damn time.

And yes treat Coutinho, the same way. He is being disruptive is VVD.

If football continues this way many teams are going to go the way of Scottish Football. It has to stop.

I understand players wanting to better themselves and moving on to so called "bigger clubs" it's jus the way they go about it. Personally I think the best way to solve the issue is insert buy outs or whatever they call them in Spain.

Yeah some of them are crazy (I believe Messi has a 300m clause or something) but these so called lesser teams I.e. like Southampton with vvd lfc with coutinho make these players so it should be the club's who decide how much they go for not the players spitting there dummies out and demanding they be sold for less than they worth. Unfortunately money has ruined the game and everyone gets rubbish on.

Kj
Thank you for your decent post.
There are many issues here.
One the constant shopping of Lfc at Sfc is degrading to us fans, if you consider prior to Bill Shankley you were in the 2nd division but you came through and made it big, I for one supported Lfc in Europe. So Lfc made the step to be a force. Now it appears the smaller clubs have to be put in their place. I.e of the larger clubs come a calling Sfc have to give in to media pressure.

There is nothing wrong with Sfc trying to replicate your successes, it's called competition which is born on the green grass not the bank.
The constant calls from you ex players (of which you appear to have a surpass of legends strongly untasteful) . But you know that.
As for young Virgil the current idea is that Champians league is the top prize for a footballer.

In my view the pinnacle is representing you country at a World Cup. Wasn't it good West Ham United had 3 representives in 1966 as a medium sized club.
Why are the supporters of Sfc and Lfc now bitter, surely it was better to see good or great players come to The Dell St Mary's Anfield admired not sat on the blooming bench or ring bought wily nily. Is was a pleasure to see G Best I Story Moore at the Dell as it was for you to see R Davies rip for past Man Utd at O Trafford.

Let's get a grip and enjoy football for what it is thrills spills disappointments and great joy. Good news you again have a Jock playing Al la your heritage.
Enjoy football, tell the pundits, legends to get a proper job. Support our national team in courage our youth.
Enough. 😀.

Virgil Van Dyke is an exceptional player, he signed a 5 or 6 year contract that made him the highest ever paid player at the club. He plays brilliantly ofr 1/ 2 a season and gets injured. Saints then carry on paying him. every week . work on him and get him back to fitness,
The "Tapping Up" was one thing. Liverpool come out and apologise, say that's and end of the matter, truth is the damage is done, his head is turned. let's not kid ourselves £70k a week with Saints, reputedly £200k a week if he goes to Liverpool. not a difficult incentive to leave. but . he signed a contract, if he broke both legs that badly and couldn't play guess what, we would pay. and pay. and pay, because we had a contract. He should Play. and Play. and Play, because he has a contract.
There is a bigger problem that needs addressing fully than just the VVD situation. Clubs, big and small Invest - Time - Energy and Money in bringing players on, if every time a player gets good, its fair game to strip them away from a team. just because the stomp their feet and protrude the bottom lip then the game is badly flawed.
The way that the media Hacks have just applied pressure, by hour, by day by month, all whipped up by Ex Liverpool players, managers and of course Liverpool fans is awful.
You may get our man, but to me if I was Katrina Liebherr, I would make a stand and make him play with the U18s for a whole year. then sell him, okay we might loose £10 million or so of cash, but it seems that Liverpool "Know the cost of Everything - And the Value of Nothing" as a club they should take a long hard look at themselves and think about the Game, not just their own egotistical stance.

Clubs insure their players against long term injuries at least jrod thought he owed the club something after his rehabilitation shame it never really worked out, I said a long time ago player power was killing the game and it will only get worse with each new tv deal, the club didn't anticipate the number of non season ticket renewals hence the 10pound tickets for locals, again its the hard core of fans (league 1 etc ) who are being mugged off, come on saints grow a pair.
