This situation with VVD is a bit of a deja vu from a couple of seasons ago with morgan schneiderlin. Kicked off a fuss, made statements and handed in a TR. head wasnt in it during pre season but still come the close of the window was still a saints player and gave us another excellent season. Every "expert" pundit is saying he is off and I know ED002 says he is damaged goods. But still I won't be suprised if this situation ends the same and that's not wishful thinking, I just think you never know in football. thoughts?

Apparently despite the transfer request the clubs stance hasn't changed so I think I can see this happening. At the end of the day if he isn't sold before the end of the window he's going to want to play as the top clubs won't want him again if he hasn't played for a season + it's a World Cup year, I reckon we will get another season even if is begrudgingly haha.

Lukeyboy I am not Mystic Meg but there is no chance in the world that VVD will pull on a SFC shirt again. I admire the club over this, all the media are creating now is a situation where we will probably get an extra 10 million because of all the publicity this has brought.

Hmm I get why everyone is saying that chris, but pretty sure everyone was saying the same about morgan when this was happening with him. only time will tell.

Morgan was a completely different situation . He came here and went through our rise up the leagues and had strong bonds with the club. He was also a midfielder of which there are loads in the PL of his quality. VVD has been with us quite a short time but like it or not is being quoted as one of the best CB's in Europe which is true. He is worth a great deal of money to us and doesn't want to play for us. In the interest of SFC it would make sense to sell him and invest the proceeds in quality players who can help the club push for the top six. All very well having principles but we may end up being the losers in this if the team struggles defensively just for basically saving face. Sell him, move on and everybody will forget about this by Christmas.

Agree Chris,
Sell him and replace so team can move forward at least for now.

I understand your point Chris, all I'd say is I think he'd have the same value next summer and agree that players almost always get their head down once the window is closed. They'd be stupid not to and their advisors would tell them that. It's money out of their pockets if his value drops or people lose interest.

This whole thing is 90% about money anyway and after September 1st it makes financial sense for him to get his head down, play well and take his pick of the top clubs that will still want him.

I love your confidence 123 and I agree completely with what you're saying . Unfortunately he will never play for SFC again . That's the problem. Something has to give and money will sort that in the end it always does.
