Dear Ed, As a Saints fan watching the vvd situation unravel provoked by LFC and Jurgen Klopps inept mishandling and media manipulation of the ongoing situation, you will forgive us Saints fans an opportunity to gloat and also for Mr Klopp who would understand the German phrase'schadenfreude', due to the Philippe Coutninho transfer request, what goes around comes around! . Moving on from there I believe that Football is at a crucial tipping point, what has been demonstrated is that even lengthy contracts are no defence or protection and that the leagues are powerless to intervene a) Because they have no real desire b) Because they do not want to upset the the gravy grain . What it demonstrates to me is I am astonished that more clubs are not investing in a committed, professional youth policy as Saints have done rather than pay the inflated prices for in some cases very average players in what is an unsustainable situation. Hopefully this would finally develop home grown English talent which would benefit the clubs and hopefully the national sides. I welcome your comments. Regards VS.

The PL demands instat success. Take for example Man City. Pep thought to be a failure year 1. Spends Millions in year two to buy success. If he fails then he's a failure himself and probably out of a job.

How can youth culture thrive in this environment?

Only six teams, all massive spenders, are tipped to win the PL. No other side is getting a mention. Guess SFC, as a sound business model, are right to develop youth, to actually make their way (eventually) into the first team squad.

The transfers this year have been absolutely obscene. I agree, football is at a tipping edge. If BBC were not to show PL highlights (which I no longer watch), then the PL will not be for the fans, it will be for Sky and BT.

All this and we can't do well with our teams in the Champions League, which now shown on BT, is of little interest to anyone, apart from those teams that have qualified.

Sorry VS gt is right. The days you crave are I am afraid gone never to return. The mega money in football today has seen to that.
