Les still insistent on vvd staying. He says hoedt will partner vvd in defence, and he has more than a week to put his money where his mouth is and even then there's the case of highly difficult task of reintegrating virgil back into the squad. All in all happy with this signing and an absolute steal for a full international in today's market. We now have 6 central defenders in our books. 3 left backs as well.

Agree Vick, great sound bite from LR about our new Dutch centre back partnership. I'm 50/ 50 on whether VVD will stay and even if he does it will take a lot of work from both sides to have him playing to his full potential again.
Sam McQueen can play further forward if need be but I see him as a future successor to the LB role over Targett.
Keep what we have and get a top striker in and we are in a good place. We don't need creative midfielders. We are creating plenty of chances just not converting them.
I honestly feel we are in for a great season this year.

Ok in all seriousness though take all the bad feeling out of the vvd situation. If a bid of 70 million came in for him and we sold I wouldn't have a problem with that . what would everyone else think?

I think stephens deserves a run in the first team as he's been solid ever since he came into the frame and I wouldn't mind seeing a Hoedt and Stephens partnership develop should vvd leave. With yosh as a very solid backup. But the ideal dream scenario for me is still having vvd and hoedt as our main cbs. I don't think we necessarily need 6 cbs at the moment though, the wages are better spent elsewhere. Number 9 is still up for grabs.

I agree Vick would love to see a Stephens Hoedt partnership. Stephens has been brilliant and progressed a lot since coming in to the team. Even if VVD does come back it will probably take him a while to get match sharp and get in the right "mind set", so we're probably looking a bit of a wait after the transfer window closes anyway, I reckon October time.

Don't you think we have bought Bednarek and Hoedt knowing that Virgil will be leaving but in the perfect world we would like to keep him until the other two get used to the PL change of style and pace and then he leaves in maybe January. Only problem is if VVD does stay when will both of them get game time together? The CB's as a strong partnership usually hold the whole side together. Who knows what will happen, tricky one?

We wanted Fonte to stay and bring on Stephens, but he didn't hang around to do that, maybe they have asked Double VD to do that for our latest two signings? Although personally, I really can't see how Double VD can stay plus WH left Lazio as he didn't have enough game time (45 in 2 years?! ) .
