Reading a few comments on facebook regarding Angus Gunn and apparently some people think the pure roles of goalkeeper are first choice and back up! A little too much FIFA or FM mayhaps? I'm sure the people on this website know better but just in case few of you have doubts, we did not spend 13 mil on a backup keeper. Gunn is here to provide competition, to push mccarthy even further because the difference between mccarthy and forster last season is day and night. He needs to know that his spot isn't guaranteed and that he has to keep working hard especially with a quality young goalkeeper breathing down his neck.
Another good thing to come from this transfer is that if/ when mccarthy's form drops, or he's injured, then we'd see Gunn between the sticks instead of FF. Now who would you rather see there? Plus if he performs well enough when called upon he can keep his place. Point is, it's good competition. a.

I've watched Angus play a few times and in my opinion he's going to be a top keeper. Far more agile than FF and he'll give McCarthy a run for his money. Only problem is where or how do we offload FF. Seems like nobody is interested in him.

Please, all saints fans, remember FF first season with us until he got injured, he was immense. Koeman said of all the signings that season the goalkeeper was the best when interviewed on the bbc. Long term injuries have a serious effect on confidence and then performance. Let’s all support FF and hope he can return to former glories because there is a really good keeper who needs support.

Forster has been pants for a couple of seasons. He did ok in front of a SOLID back 4. but once fonte and vvd went his form dipped dramatically and he actually caused more harm than good. His defence had no confidence in him along with the coaching staff and everyone in the stands. If he gets back to being a "top keeper (big IF) then he needs to it elsewhere. His footwork is poor, his shot stopping isn't great, and even the things you'd expect from such a massive unit of a man (commanding area, coming for crosses etc) he doesn't do. add to that he's on massive wages. We need to get rid. He's on too much money to be a 3rd choice keeper, which is how I see him.

To be fair that clean sheet record he got came behind a highly impressive back four as u say Milky. Not really too sure why he dipped in form so much though as he was still pretty outstanding even with that back four. I do feel that his days are numbered, especially with a very bright young talent in Gunn signing for us.

I know a few Celtic fans and one Newcastle and all of them say he was never that good. I do appreciate he has had some gapped games but don’t recall him being immense.

if you think we spent 13m on a sub keeper and only 20m tops on a starting outfield player you are mad. Gunn is here for the future number 1 spot.

Forsters best game that I can remember was against Arsenal at the emirates in a 0-0 draw. But agree that he is probably destined for a move. would be a decent championship keeper to be fair.
