Given what Mark Hughes is saying about no more transfer business and given how woeful we looked against Derby, what are thoughts about the new season?

Hughes didn't say anything about "No more transfer business" he stated that we need to shift some players out before bringing any more in. this is probably more down to squad restrictions as opposed to money reasons.

Honestly can't see where the goals are going to come from. None of the strikers that we have are likely to score more than a handful of goals with midfielders/ defenders adding maybe 10 between them. I just hope that our defence holds up and we get plenty of 1-0 wins and 0-0 draws.

We need to off load before we make additions which is fare enough no point having players on the pay role who we all know will not play again.

We can't offload if We can't sell that's the problem and another thing is we won't sell at a loss.

I hope it’s wrong and we will get some more players in but it sounds like the kind of thing you say when the board have said there is no more money for transfers unless we shift some existing ones. I agree that we have to have an effective squad but we clearly don’t at the moment.

It's not about money. Every squad is only allowed a certain number of players over a certain age within that squad (25) we essentially have 27-28. So unless we get rid of a few players, we can't sign more otherwise we will be paying big wages for players that can't play.

It probably is about money a little bit. We've spent 60m or so this summer, it's quite reasonable that money is a factor before we buy someone new. Not just with regards to the transfer fee, but also our wage bill.

We have a large squad, and need to cut it down for practical reasons (makes no sense to have so many players) and also for financial reasons. If we were saying this 2 months ago, I'd be concerned. But saying it after spending quite a bit of money seems quite reasonable to me.

Agreed 123. Yes of course money does come into it, in the fact that we can't afford to have mega earners sat around getting paid but not being able to be selected for league games due to squad restrictions. clasie has gone today, forster is the big one we really need to shift but I think he will be the hardest to do so. if we get a striker in I think Gallagher will go on loan. we do have a lot of players out on loan though that we spent a lot of money on and haven't made any of it back. (Carrillo, boufal! )
Whoever gave the go ahead for those two should have been sacked along with puel and pelleclowno.

Yes I agree about some of our signings I understand the club are a little naieve and they seem to watch the same utube videos we watch when we’re linked with a player
I do think money’s a massive part of why we won’t buy
until we off load to many fringe players of tens of thousands now watch saints play week in week out
I’m not 100 % are squads there yet but they have made the right moves so far
COYR.

It’s purely down to length of contracts and renewing existing contracts with large signing on fees. The 3 who have left on loan probably add up to £150,000 a week in wages and national insurance, £7.8 million a year. Forster is probably costing £4 million in wages and so it goes on. It still appears we are showing constraints in the use of our budget something that many are not. I trust the board to get the finances right.
