Apparently 3 Daily Mirror "experts" are predicting Saints will be relegated!
Any thoughts?

After watching saturdays game I can understand that. Been following saints for 58 yrs and if the board can't see we are desperate for a striker then i'm crying because relegation battle here we come.

My thoughts are as follows:
1. They're not experts. You're not an expert just because you like something and have an opinion on it.
2. If you consider their predictions educated guesses, not only would I question your level of education but also point out that these guesses come before a ball is kicked so they're based mainly on last season with perhaps some colour added by transfer activity and friendly results. I doubt these writers have seen every friendly performance of every team so only stand out friendly results will have registered with them.
3. Last season, most of them predicted Burnley would be relegated.
How'd that work out?

If anything Saint Pete, I feel its a form of abuse that I just had to look at the Mirror site and kill brain cells in order to reply.

Well obviously we both bow to your superior knowledge, and fancy making you look at the Mirror site how shameless of us . Please forgive us for even being so stupid as to message anything when we have such informed bright and intelligent people as yourself to make our day go with a smile . gary stones 67 knows nothing about football, life or anything I guess.

Please let's not start the board trashing again already gps.

Last time we demanded a striker, just any striker, we got Carillo out of desperation. We then slated the board for that too! Please, just leave them to go on trying to find the players they think can actually add something rather than trying to fix every problem in one window and ending up wasting more money.

Worst forwards I recall in pre-season were Le God and a certain R. Lambert.

Keep the faith.

Hi guys,
I'm here in the states watching with interest the summer transfer dealings, I share your concerns at the lack of an incoming striker surprised at Gunn coming in with FF not moved on, unfortunately the financial impact of buying Boufal and Carillo still has not been resolved and therefore that restricts our transfer possibilities. I am surprised to see Davis still here, he has been a great servant to the club but his time is surely over.

I also read the mirror and their relegation predictions which also include Brighton and Bournemouth! so obviously an anti South bias do I think we will be relegated? no but mid table is probably as good as it gets, there were games last season where we were unlucky and others just plain sloppy and please we cannot play that awful pedestrian slow aimless style again, can we? Anyway fingers crossed coys regards vs.

There is no need to be "Lightweight" we are in a better place than last year, Stuart Armstrong looks great - Mo Elyounoussi has just what we need.
Gunn looks to be a fantastic Goalkeeper so we have two top bananas, and we have some strong defenders.
We could really do with one quality striker Alcacer would cap off a great close season.

Its sad when certain Saints Fans get so "Gloomy Doomy" before we have had our first game, please try to enjoy yourselves.
We are not going to overhaul Man City - Liverpool - Man U - Chelsea - Spurs or Arsenal over all, but we will win a few games against them.
We are lucky, we have a good Management Board and if you think not, have a look at Newcastle!

We will finish 9th - 14th this year as a best guess, and that's okay!
We March On.!

Great post Pete, agree with almost all of it.

gps - think you misinterpreted Figo a bit there in fairness. The way I read it he was being ironic and criticising hypotheticals/ the Mirror more than any individual.

And a non football related fact - humans cannot predict the future. SO whatever anyone says -its just a guess.

I'm sure the Saints fans here are educated enough to form their own opinions and not take words from other people just because they have a job title. Why not we just keep our knickers untwisted and have a bit of maturity when replying to and giving criticism eh?

Much more fun if we all just go nuts and shoot from the hip isn't it Vick? ;)

Ha - Just caught up with this thread. Sorry GPS if you took offence at my post. I was responding to Saint Pete's, not yours and as Saints123 pointed out, I was deriding Mirror "experts" and the Mirror, not Saint Pete. Saint Pete did the same by putting the word experts in ironic speech marks in his post. Any way, as some others have said, the point is these predictions are of little worth and often inaccurate. I do not think we're relegation candidates yet as I'm yet to see how we and other teams perform when the league matches get under way. We may all have concerns about the team, but let's not start talking relegation until we see how things are shaping up.

Oh come on. " Daily Mirror " and " Experts " are hardly words that should be put together and they're probably basing their guesses on last season. It we were to get 20 plus points from our first 10 games the same 3 " Experts " would be predicting European football for us in 2019.
