It's a cruel, cruel game. We were superb in the first half hour, deserved our lead. Long missed a sitter but I'm amazed he scored one anyway. Ralph got the tactics spot on in the first half - their goal was offside but only in the first phase (apparently VAR wouldn't have ruled that out anyway), and we were hanging on by half time.

Second half again superb, countering and pressing with high energy and pace - Redmond, Hojbjerg and Romeu were immense. Then to get caught on the counter from a corner is just sloppy - two go in for the same ball and suddenly it's 4 on 3 and Salah showed his quality with a great finish. The third just comes from turning off and trying to push the game.

Liverpool in the end showed the mettle of a championship chasing side - my dad (Liverpool fan) was incredibly relieved to see the full time whistle go and thought we deserved something.

I think we will be absolutely fine if we continue to play like that - no more games against top six sides and we're definitely going to win another game, and I can't see Cardiff winning three more. Fancy BOU H and a draw with WAT or WOL, one of whom will be coming off an FA cup semi final defeat.

Also good to see us lose such an attacking threat with only Long up top - I think Ralph will begin putting together a very good side this summer - a few quality additions will see us back to the Koeman days hopefully.

A painful night but onwards and upwards.

Thought we played really well. First half hour Liverpool were scared of us. Our counter attacking was superb, with neat interchanges and speed bursting forward. We just lacked a little bit of. quality up top. Long did ok, but his first touch is obviously shocking and he should have made it 2-0 really.
In all though I can't fault us. did think it was a bit reckless leaving only Bertrand back on our corner and then sims losing the ball. Lack of experience there, he should have just shot or played it wide. Bertrand did well to hold salah up and prevent the ball to. firmino. in the end Liverpool JUST had a little more about them than us, but I am hugely impressed with how we played.
Ings back and hopefully gets a full run of games till the end of the of the season. We will be fine. Hopefully build in the summer with a few additions but not much more needed in my opinion. We need to sell more than we need to buy.

Definitely think an experienced defender such as Bertie would have tried to block Salahs shot for the second goal. He was literally right there. Even his leg hairs probably would have been enough.

I think it is a bit harsh to blame Bertrand for the goal. Firmino made a great run on the outside and would have been through if Bertrand had tried to tackle Salah. It was a great break from winning the ball back on the edge of their own area. one day Ralph will have us playing the same way! So much better to be going for the win in the last 10 minutes and getting caught than trying to park the bus and losing in extra time!
