As stated, we're in for Koulibaly form Napoli. I believe Talksport are suggesting that the deal for VVD has 'stalled' though can't see this anywhere else. I wonder if we''ll go for both if the chance came up?

NOT a rumour but as Antonio Cassano's contract has been cancelled I wonder if he'd be interested in coming to us on a short term deal. I imagine his salary would be a stumbling block but with no transfer fee and our need another striker considering the injurys / rehabilitation of J Rod and Long he'd be a good option.

1.) 27 Jan 2015 12:52:48
I was posting the same, he used to b superb prob bit long in tooth now but still do a job

2.) 27 Jan 2015 16:32:09
Personally I'd like us to sign Andre Schurrle but I'd 've very suprised if that happened.

3.) 27 Jan 2015 16:48:53
In fact £22m is being quoted so that won't happen!

4.) 27 Jan 2015 17:00:39
I was going to type this myself, bit long in tooth now but could probably do impact job for us

Don't normally get caught up in rumours but inside info from a pretty good source has stated that watch this space, something is afoot at saints regarding possible ins. The hierarchy want success and the chance of a CL place - finances are there for Koeman. Let's be patient and see - exciting times ahead 3pts on Sunday COYR's

6.) 28 Jan 2015 00:46:37
Mane is back so i think that's our hope of us getting another striker gone

You've probably already seen but Osvaldo is talking to Juve about going out on loan with them having a £15m option to buy in the summer. Source - tv website.

1.) Super but I'll bet my house, my wife my kids and my dog that even if they sign him in the summer peramanently £15m will be more than what they actually pay, a lot more!
Of course Cortese and MoPo won't shoulder an ounce of blame just unfortunate he didn't settle in England.

2.) Juve need to sell in order to buy so there's no guarantee he'll be sold in the summer, I doubt he'll be going on loan, they're interested but we don't want to get rid

3.) I heard the loan deal is already in place for 400K with some bonuses and goal add on doo-berry's. with an option to buy for 20m euro lmao. surely can't be true.

Sain Gibbs

4.) Seeing as Cortese is no longer at the club, I doubt he'll have anything to say about it at all.

5.) @ Aussie Saint, what was the point in saying that? No one said that Cortese has anything to do with the sale/ loan. What was said was that blame can't be laid at Cortese's door, even though he helped sign him. It was purely a chance taken on an incredibly talented player, who unfortunately couldn't overcome personal/ anger issues and thus didn't gel. I for one would still like to give him a chance, even though I do agree with the punishment. It can take time to settle in a new league, whether that be moving to a foreign country or being promoted to a higher standard. Prime examples are Ronaldo (2 seasons to adjust), Bale (spurs tried to exchange him plus cash for Downing) and Lallana this season. Last season he didn't look up to Premier League standard, now he is arguably one of the best players in the whole of the league. My point being is that yes Osvaldo has an attitude and some anger issues, but he needs time to settle and thus these issues are going to become exagerated. I understand if we do sell him, but if we don't surely united support for him at games can only aid the transition process.

6.) He gets a lot of slack for being a "very talented player who didn't settle"? Club paid a record fee for someone Poch knew with a reputation for being a nutter. That's like buying a used car for a top price after an AA inspector said it's been in a crash!

A little while ago we were linked with Mariano Diaz who at the time was playing for Real Madrid. Having looked up his current status I was disappointed to see that he transferred to Lyon for £8m and is currently scoring (on average) 0.6 goals every game. We won't be able to get him now but his previous scoring exploits and current form in addition to his relatively cheap cost by today's standards does make me wonder why he wasn't deemed good enough.

1.) 17 Jan 2018 06:46:16
Who says he wasn’t deemed good enough?

2.) 17 Jan 2018 08:33:45
We chose gabbi over him.

A lot of frustration with MP at the moment - and quite understandably so in my opinion. He was my preferred candidate in the summer so I can't complain too much but should he leave who is likely / available to replace him? Tbh we're not as attractive proposition as we were last summer so I'm struggling to come up with names. People may mention Dyche but he didn't go to Everton so why would he come to us? I wonder if Koeman may be in line for a return? Thoughts on that and potential suitors most welcome.

A bit disappointed by last night's result but if we win against Liverpool I'll be satisfied with 4 points from 6. However, I really do wish we went for a proven striker in either of the last two windows. Pelle is good but I don't feel he's the one to get us 20+ goals a season. Strikers win you matches, defences win you championships. I'm not saying we'd win the league with a top striker but we have the defense for Champs League qualification but not the striker. I'm more than happy to be proven wrong!

1.) It's a great shame that Saints' two major signings, "the best two players in Dutch football", stopped playing in November.

Pelle "the goal machine" has two league goals since the end of October. "Assists king" Tadic has one assist since the end of October.

Frankly, they're both well on the way to being flop signings who briefly sparkled until they got found out. I don't see any signs of encouragement that either is about to turn the corner and I suspect their performance level will continue to disappoint between now and the end the season. Can a transfer be considered a success if the player only contributes for around a quarter of the campaign?

Koeman sounds very frustrated with his forward players, and it's not surprising. Throw in the two most attacking midfielders, Davis and Ward-Prowse, who've contributed a grand total of zero goals between them (when even Jack Cork was able to chip in a few, from a more defensive position and a handful of games) and you've got a side with a serious lack of quality at one end.

And the great white hope is Shane Long, and his two-to-five goals per season! Deary me.

It's going to be a test of the manager's ability to work out a way to get his team firing again. I can only see the season petering out with a whimper from here, sadly.

2.) I've been wondering about Pelle and Tadic too. let's face it they don't stop being good players after a few months.
I was reading a really good article about Giroud last week. It highlighted that in his first season like Pelle, he started very well scoring 12 goals inthe first 3 months, but then his goals dried up. Like Saints, Arsenal didn't really have other Striking options, and it wasn't until Giroud had an enforced lay off through injury that he had a break, and as soon as he came back, he was fresh and started scoring again.
Both Pelle and Tadic have been victims of the lack of options in the saints squad, leading to fatigue. It's been clear for a while that both Tadic and Pelle needed a break for a few weeks. With Djuricic coming in, along with Elia, and Mane, it looks like Tadic could well be rested. Pelle will have to keep on going unless we play Gallagher at the moment.

I'm sure that next season, with increased attacking options, Pelle's form won't be allowed to drop so far, although we should have all those extra game in Europe to play ;)

Saints in so many ways are victims of their own success. All we can do is keep supporting the team, and cheer them on to success.

Not a rumour as such but I saw that Hull are going in for Wellbeck who apparently has no future at OT under LVG. If true I guess our purchase of Long has funded Hull's purchase of an England international which makes great sense.

1.) 15 Aug 2014 21:22:43
I've no problem with that. It's only Welbeck. If he played for any club other than United, he would not be in the England squad.

09 Aug 2014 10:19:04
I must admit to not watching / reviewing any pre season games this year but IF we sign those we're linked to, how does this look?

Fonte. Rojo.

Clyne. Bertrand.
Taider. Tadic.

Pelle. Rodrigues.

1.) Haven't heard the Wollscheid link before, would be a decent signing though. So far in pre season we've lined up with 4 at the back and one up front so it'll probably be more like;

GK Forster/Boruc
RB Clyne
CB Fonte
CB Yoshida/Rojo/Gardos/Wollscheid
LB Bertrand
DM Wanyama
DM Cork
CM/CAM Davis/JWP/Taider/Ramirez
RW Tadic
LW Isgrove (J-Rod when fit)
ST Pelle

Or the same with Davis and Tadic as CAM with JWP/Taider in the CM role

Totally agree Bailey. Now is the time to sack MP and get Silva.

The rumour has been given credence by appearing in the Daily Star today. I'm hoping we get both, we'll then have a well balanced squad. Hopefully the Everton result does give the squad a wake-up call as a couple of players have suggested it will. We can then kick on.

I think we could get to 37 - still not enough mind but with a shock result we may achieve 40. A great deal depends on recruitment in the window though.

Agree with you on the need for a top striker / poacher. I like Pelle but think we need better. The trouble is that means spending £20m+ and I don't think we have the appetite for that.

One swallow does not a summer make. Let's hope he carries that form through the rest of the season.

Totally agree. We had our trousers pulled down on the Long deal.
