Reports that we are preparing a £10m bid for Dennis Praet of Anderlecht. Supposedly a few prem clubs looking at him - especially Leicester and Liverpool. Thoughts?

Would love it if he joined. Could provide another creative outlet alternative to tadic and will definitely strengthen the team. Although I'd prefer we get a winger instead of another attacking midfielder.

same room as last year, even the same price, we've got a lot of midfielders (although admittedly we could do with a good number 10)
not sure this is anything other than his agent although if he's as good as his agent says he is then we might be interested…?

Gardos out for 7 months - Koeman has stated that CB is now a priority and we will be signing 1 or potentially 2 in the coming weeks. Hopefully VVD.

Got a feeling with Celtic not wanting to lose VVD due to their CL commitments at the moment we will get somebody else in . We don't have time to hang around we need someone now , unfortunately other clubs will know we're a bit desperate and will probably ask silly money . I reckon we will get another loan signing till January maybe if we are keen to get Van Djik and maybe also get Vlaar as well when he is fit again . Trouble is who is available out there that is any good at the money we want to pay?

Precisely, when Toby didn't sign there should have been bids being put in to find his replacement as soon as it became clear he singed for spuds not let's wait and see, we looked depleted a number of times last year when we got injuries and this year if we want to improve or equal on last year we will need a bigger squad (not relying on youth, as they are not good enough)

As per usual, Saints doing their business quietly. But since media are all over Vlaar and VVD it seems to be that these two are the most likely candidates people are expecting. I wouldn't mind Vlaar coming in, as long as he isn't first choice (useful experience as well) but I can't help not liking the prospect of VVD coming, he has been playing at a lower league level, for the best club there, and he has been found out in Europe. His decision making, positioning, concentration, marking (Traits that Fonte excels in) doesn't standout. Plus celtic want silly money for him. I hope Saints have another name lined up.

I recently moved to Scotland and work with a Celtic fan who rates vvd very very highly. Unless you watch a player week in week out you can't really judge them.

Apparently vvd told voetball international that he is urging Celtic to consider premier league offers as he thinks he is better than Scottish league football and wants to get into the national team, I think as long as we don't spend too much on him it could be a great signing

tbf I wouldn't mind VVD coming in but I'm just saying that we could do better. Wern't we linked to Martins Indi last january? Mussachio and Astori in the past as well?
Honestly I would love it if Reed digs up a gem in the Italian division, say what you like about their (admitedly somewhat 'Boring') style of play but you can't deny they have an abundance in defensive talent over there. Just an opinion though. The black box will do its job.

Southampton will play friendlies against Schalke 04 and Besiktas in a pre-season tournament, venue not yet set but most likely around Germany and Austria.

Interesting interview from Puel today saying he feels Redmond is a "very, very good striker". Worth noting it is Puel who Henry credits his trademark cut-in and curl into the bottom corner finish to from their time at Monaco.

6 years ago he lifted the Johnstone's paint trophy with us. 5 years ago he all but secured our promotion from league 1 with that goal against Brighton. 2 years ago he stuck with us while we were in 'meltdown', becoming our captain and leading us on the pitch. Tonight, he lifted the European Championship trophy. Incredibly proud to call Jose Fonte our captain. Dedication and hard work.

Any news on exactly when JRod is likely to return? Seen his blog saying he's working hard and hopes to be back to soon but no dates. We need him back asap!
1.) No actual news but my guess would be either the Everton or Hull match in April, at the earliest
Koeman said a few weeks ago he was doing well but not close to returning to training. Say 4 weeks from then to return plus another 4 weeks and a few u21 matches to regain match fitness puts it at the end of March ish
2.) Got a horrible feeling we won't see him back this season. When was he originally due back? November?
3.) More bad news: Jake Flannigan's done his ACL as well and is facing nine months out.
A few days before, Kyle Clinton suffered the same injury playing for the U18s.
Three players out with ACL injuries at the same time. Talk about bad luck. Flannigan was just starting to feature on the first team bench. Gutting for the lad.
4.) One could say bad luck or is it to do with training? Just a thought.
5.) Apparently j-rod is back next month. Great news

they reported that Clyne would sign for liverpool 3 days before he actually did, so could be a little while yet. Looks almost dead cert now though.
But not all 'big name' established players have big egos, there are plenty top quality players who are also hard-working and good in a team. I hope if we do sign him that the club make sure he doesn't get any special treatment and make him well aware of that. If that's the case there's potential for him to be a brilliant player for us, if not I worry he'd cause more trouble than good.

He would not have been a sure fire starter in our side and therefore Arsenal wouldn't have seen it as beneficial for him to come to us anyway. I doubt he would have played much more in our team than he would have at Arsenal. Him going to Boro for the season makes perfect sense as he's more guaranteed to get a long run of games in the premier league - that's the whole point of a loan from the parent club's perspective.

I think probably Romeu in for Clasie to give us more cover defensively, as like you say the fullbacks will be bombing on. But imagine those two will rotate. Lots of strength in depth in the squad now.
