IMO we are playing a different style of football to when lambert and pelle played for us.
I think we need an out and out goal scorer NOT a target man but someone who can score week in week out someone with pace and skill all of the succesful clubs have one i. e costa, giroud, sanchez, aguero, vardy,
kane etc. We have the ability to create lots of chances during a game but we have lacked goals . unless this changes I can see it being a long tough season ahead.

1.) 22 Aug 2017 16:08:10
Agree with your point - disagree with Giroud on the list of top pacey strikers!

2.) 22 Aug 2017 16:52:17
Agree Giroud not the quickest but will still score 15+ goals a season coming off the bench.

3.) 22 Aug 2017 18:49:19
Giro us must have the best min to goals ratio in the premier by a mile. If we don't buy a plan b we could be in trouble again I think manolo and pelle would of been a dream he likes to run in to goal from the look of him and could do with a big man hold up knock down type. Please not remy.

4.) 23 Aug 2017 01:15:30
I agree I'd like to see Gabbiadini play off another striker, I reckon it could work with Austin.

5.) 23 Aug 2017 08:53:53
Yes Austin, if we actually play him up front from the start of every games he will bang the goals in. Austin is a beast, we just need to unleash him!

6.) 23 Aug 2017 13:31:04
I don't think Austin is fit enough or clever enough to play up front with Gabbiadini.

7.) 23 Aug 2017 13:57:08
Maybe he doesn't have the link up play of Pelle/ Lambert but we'll have to see, we haven't really been linked to any target men so far, I doubt we want to block Gallaghers path to the first team. I can imagine us signing a versatile wide forward who can play as the main striker and just off of him.

I think vvd will end up at liverpool with sakho coming this way and I wouldn't be suprised to see chris wood from leeds here either.

SAINTSMITHY

1.) 28 Jul 2017 11:43:04
Sakho no way too pricey plus injured Chris woods way too pricey for a championship striker so much it's ridiculous.

2.) 28 Jul 2017 11:59:08
Trouble is we are not going to be able to be too choosy. Not much quality out there for what we want to pay. We may start the season with four CB's that are not really PL quality which is a shame because we have two of the best FB's in Europe. Could have the best back four in the PL if we could afford it. But every club could say that so irrelevant.

3.) 28 Jul 2017 12:21:01
I'm sorry Chris but don't post if you didn't watch a single game last season. yoshida is so clearly PL quality he was class all season for us. What more does the guy have to do to prove he's a good player. Stephens was good for us at the end of the year too.

Still, I think if VVD went he'd be replaced.

Getting so tired of hearing saints fans talk about how we have no ambition. look how far we've come in 5/ 6 years its just a joke. shut up and leave them to do their job without having people who don't know what they're talking about second guessing absolutely every decision made.

4.) 28 Jul 2017 14:21:31
Sorry 123 I watched every home game last season being a season ticket holder and several away games. I am not saying Yoshida is a poor player at all in fact he has done an admirable job. However if you think he is a top class centre back that would command a starting place in most of the top half of the PL I disagree with you. He gives everything and is totally dedicated to the game but I feel he is just that bit short of top class. This site is all about opinions and that is mine.

5.) 28 Jul 2017 18:05:59
Yosh. Is a good player and premier league however he is one of those players who when they make a mistake always seem to get punished he is not dominant in the air isn't quick isn't massive but is a solid 7 in all depts. great squad player and does well at any position he covers but isn't great. We need Gibson or wimmer and to turn VVD round for one more season. As for wood is he any better than Gallagher his finishing in the summer in one game could if had 5 and just got one so 20m is ridiculous we need a costa from wolves or a chance in traore who if he comes good could be world class. Hoping the manager is as good as he talks as seems a genuine proud football man who could take us places and inspire players poch style.

6.) 29 Jul 2017 04:17:05
Would love it if we managed to hold on to VVD and get Wimmer. Bertrand Wimmer VVD Cedric. Now that's a back four capable of holding the fort. Yosh stephens bednarek pied mcqueen solid backups when called upon too. Its a dream scenario but knowing saints a dream is all that it might be.

7.) 29 Jul 2017 16:13:54
We would still have FF though Vick. Still far from convinced about him.

8.) 29 Jul 2017 18:49:59
For me, Yosh is a premier league squad player, providing very capable cover to the first choice CB's. However as some have said, as capable as he is, ability wise should not be a starter if there are no injuries.

9.) 29 Jul 2017 19:00:50
Aye, Chris. Big FF must be quivering in his giant gloves knowing that the mighty stuart taylor signed an extension some time ago. That'll kick him up his backside lol. In all seriousness we have 4 goalkeepers in the squad with FF, McCarthy, Taylor, and Lewis. I reckon the goalkeeping department won't be too costly but when push comes to shove and a series of inconsistency and errors are made surely the manager shouldn't be afraid to drop the big man. Competition is there to keep the first teamers on their toes. That being said, our back ups aren't entirely poor either.

10.) 29 Jul 2017 19:09:17
My mistake, Harry lewis has left on loan to Dundee.

11.) 29 Jul 2017 20:18:17
But we've got gazzaniga back. I think? .

12.) 30 Jul 2017 02:22:41
That's right milkySaint, that too on the back of a solid loan spell at Rayo. It remains to be seen if he'll still be at the club when the transfer window shuts though. Heard Rayo wanted to make another move for him and a few Spanish and French teams are intersted as well.

Think atsu would have fitted into our squad with his pace and ability. We still need an out and out goal scorer and a strong midfielder ox would fit in midfield perfectly. think shane long should get more game time doesn't score much but creates plenty with his pace. vvd situation still getting on my tits get rid and move on we proved end of last season and first game of this season we don't need him. cash in.

SAINTSMITHY

1.) 15 Aug 2017 12:53:23
another quality buy who would suit would be giroud.

2.) 15 Aug 2017 23:11:41
I think wages and his willingness to join us would be a problem also he's already 30 so probably no good on sell on value but that theory might change depending on our new owner's plan for the club.

3.) 16 Aug 2017 13:28:15
I would have Giroud here tomorrow but as Ethiosaint said too much money and probable lack of interest from the player himself. Age isn't always a bad thing, with age you get experience and in the past the best sides were those that had a mixture of youth and maturity. You can't win anything with just young inexperienced players no matter how good they are. That is why Man U are probably going to re sign Ibrohimovich.

22 Jul 2017 10:00:15
If vvd wants to go let him go sfc should take the money. We played the last part of the season without him and I don't think we missed him. I think our problem was the way we played (very negative)1 up front and clueless.

SAINTSMITHY

1.) 22 Jul 2017 16:08:44
Didn't miss him, u obviously go much or watch the cup final, we let in something like 17 goals in about a 7 game spell without him and zlatan wouldn't have had a free header in the cup final if he'd played.

2.) 22 Jul 2017 16:54:31
If forster could position himself correctly at free kicks and actually use his 6'8'' to his advantage and actually come off of his line and command his six yard box we wouldn't have lost the final and wouldn't have let so many in all season.

3.) 22 Jul 2017 22:23:28
Surely a goalkeeping coach can train Ff how to catch a ball? If you are 6 ft 8 you stand a great chance of coming off your line and making a commanding presence. Its not rocket science is it?

20 jan 2017 16:50:54
think yoshida has had a good season so far. stephens will step upto the plate. he has the ability. think fonte has been mislead by his agent. forster has had a poor season. and we desperately need a striker who knows how to score week in week out as this has been our problem for a few seasons now.

SAINTSMITHY

1.) 20 Jan 2017 17:32:14
Thing is wages for a striker that scores week in week out saints won't pay so we will be very lucky to bag one.

2.) 20 Jan 2017 18:01:13
I was looking at stats for this season. I think Jay Rod could be a solution. He outshines Long, and Redmonds stats are horrendous.

Anyway, if Puel gets rid of this constant rotation, HE'S MADE 187 CHANGES IN 34 MATCHES. No wonder we struggle when the same 11 never play with each other.

I think Jay Rod could find form and roll in the goals. But yeah we want a young cheap striker that will score and be sold on for a profit.

It seems like the clubs become very naive towards the nature of the transfer market. Unfortunately, it the last two seasons it has drastically changed. A couple of good performances in any of the top leagues and people stick huge price tags on your head.

And clubs are coughing up. Look at Palace for example signing Beneteke for 32mil. I could never see Saints paying that for a player. Same has happened for Sakho, doesn't even play first team football and Liverpool want 20mil for him.

Fonte, will be very hard to replacement. Not just because he's a good defender, but because he's been at the club for so long, he understands the club the philosophy. He is an experienced world-class defender.

The trouble is I can't see anyone coming of note until the club has been sold. Maybe you can shed some light on this i. e is it still up for sale? Not paper talk but the last I heard it has been on the market for sometime.

SAINTSMITHY

{Ed002's Note - The Southampton owners had discussions with Lander as I previously explained but it came to nothing at that point as (a) Lander valued the club less than the owners, and (b) Lander would probably not be able to raise additional funds easily. If an attractive offer were made the club could be sold. It is entirely unrelated to transfers.}

Reports say that he has been offered a contract and he has refused. Also if van dijk wants to leave let him go. take the reported 60m. spend 30m on dembele from celtic and possibly bid for spider and see if we could temp terry his experience would be great for the likes of stephens. we create a lot of chances but can't score. think we should have replaced pele and mane. also we have a keeper who is 6ft 8 who should command his area and win everything in the air but he doesnt. beyond me.

SAINTSMITHY

{Ed002's Note - My understanding is that there has been no contract offered to him. Dembele won't be moving to Southampton, nor will "spider" and nor will John Terry.}
