Gardos is nearly done. Rojo, Vlaar, Van Dijk and Byram on the radar. Midfield is very strong, especially if Morgan stays. Ideally, we should be looking at a proven striker and a winger and if we can, I reckon we will be in a position better than that of last years.

SaintJamie

1.) Gardos nearly done believable, why do you think the others are definitely players we are pursuing?

2.) With lots of change!

3.) Id be surprised if were still pursuing van djik, yes we enquired but believe were put off by price and news coming out earlier was moving on from byram if you think about it we bid around 5 mil? There's no way the board are guna splash 7, 8 mil on a back up

4.) Or a versatile striker who can play on the wing as well as up top like Jay

5.) I think the Rojo deal will be off because his agent is asking for too much and Porto need to cash in a lot of money to get their 25% cut. Vlaar won't be bought if Gardos is finalised I think. Byram is highly rated and IMO is worth up to 7/8 million. I think he's worth more than McCormack who was 11 million. I reckon Gardos/Byram and a Winger and Striker. Maybe Kevin Volland (German) who is capable of both.

6.) I agree Jamie, byram has got a lot of potential and is probably worth the 7, 8 mil and with McCormack well let's just say Fulham got their pants fully pulled down on that deal

7.) 12 Aug 2014 11:52:03
Porto huh. that will be news to their chairman Pinto da Costa

8.) Man utd have officially bid for rojo, apparently meeting sportings asking price. that's him off our radar now

9.) We seemed to play Chambers and Clyne in rotation last season to good effect and I think we could do the same with Clyne and Byram. Obviously very good if one gets injured because we have a cover LB in Targett, but not a cover RB. A winger/striker I believe should be a big focus for our last signing. Maybe for that number 7 shirt.

10.) Rojo is at Sporting CP not Porto, our bid was pretty close to there asking price though wasn't it? I thought they wanted around £17m and we bid like £13 or £14m, so may as well bid up the extra money as he'd be a quality signing, before Man U's bid is accepted!

11.) Sorry yeah I meant Sporting. His agent realised how much more money he wanted from the deal though and said he could get more at other clubs. Unless we cough up more that £17mill then we won't have a chance, and I think there are others we can sign for that price

With the money we have generated, we really shouldn't be wasting time with below par bidding for players. 3. 5 for Redmond? Give them 6 and see what they say, same with De Vrij, Utd are linked but if we can sort it out before they've got their hands on him, a 10 million bid should be good enough to land him with utd probably thinking of players like Rodriguez of Monaco and other big name players. The sooner we sign more players, the more time we have to generate good squad morale and will show the other teams we mean buisness.

SaintJamie

1.) 15 Jul 2014 21:36:59
I agree in principle but it partly comes down to the player demands and if they know Man U are waiting with a vastly improved wage offer then it could cause us problems. Especially if their reps are telling them to wait. I really do think we should go back and offer the 6 for redmond asap.

2.) Saying we should pay what teams are asking just because the club has the money is like going into a car dealership and not trying to get yourself a better deal just because you have the money

3.) Rodrigues who was arguably the best player at the world cup? I Take that is a joke?
Don't know why everybody thinks Redmond is that good anyway? Only a handful of good games last year.
I suspect with the scouting team the club goes on about, we will have many targets, some the media haven't reported yet. Just chill and I'm sure some good appointments will be made at the right price.

4.) Afraid that's not how it works in football. Why would you bid 6 if they would accept say 4.5 mill but 3. 5 was to low. That's 1.5 mill that could go on something else.

5.) How is that a joke Saintsmiff? James Rodriguez definitely was one of the best players at the World Cup? He won the golden boot!

6.) Haha de vrij and rodriguez as if, if any other fans read this then were all going to look crazy, please stop

7.) I don't think some of you read my post correctly, at no point do I say we should get James Rodriguez, I just said Utd would be looking at players like him and others right now. And yes, the cheaper we can get the players the better but if a club has already named a price, why are we wasting time by bidding less? "We want 20 + for Lovren" and Liverpool bid 15. If they bid small, we will probably end up keeping, if they cough up 20, he's their player and done deal. Same with Redmond.

8.) And to saintysaintsaint, I agree with your statement completely, but this isn't a car dealership where we're tryna get £500 off or £1000 off. Football is surrounded by stupid money where 500,000 and a million difference isn't much to pay more.

9.) You've misinterpreted what he said. He mean United should be looking at players of Rodriguez quality, not De Vrij's.

10.) The joke is thinking we could get somebody like Rodrigues.

11.) I don't mean to ruin the party or anything but I think that SaintJamie was trying to say that, because Manchester Utd have the big name players on their hands such as James Rodriguez, there is the opportunity for us to move in and take the slightly smaller players from under the noses. The whole notion is that they are going to prioritize the big name players and not smaller ones, so we can take advantage of this opportunity. I'm not saying I agree with what he said, just that I think the wrong idea came across - no, we are not going to sign james rodriguez

12.) At the risk of sounding cheesy.
There's only 1 J Rodriguez

13.) Saintsmiff & S1 you might want to read the original post through one more time!

14.) Seattle Saint, after reading the above post I have to agree. And I see what u mean. It did sound crazy that somebody was trying to link us with James Rodrigues

15.) Individually it might not seem a lot in comparison but paying an extra million plus on 4/5 players that we could have saved is enough to buy another player, it's definitely worth the club trying to save as much as they can

16.) I didn't misread the post but your sugesting we throw big team money about united have built their empire over about 20 yrs, we have been back in the prem for two seasons we DEFINATLY should not start acting like manchester united becaus we are nowhere near the size of them, we are the best midtable team with without doubt the best academy were streets ahead there, but that doesn't make our first team one of the bigboys and we need to stop thinking we are

17.) De vrij signing will depend on whether Lovren leaves, 24 mill in 8mill out is really good business

I am happy with the signings we have made so far, hopefully with 2/3 more to come. But I still look back at the players we have let slip. Will Buckley for £2.5 million would've been a great price in a position we need but now he's gone to sunderland. Frazier Campbell could've filled the void just taken over by Long. But at £11mill less as he went to Palace for just £900k. Jordon Mutch would've been a great asset playing off the striker too. Does anyone feel like we've missed certain players too? Or have we bought in the perfect replacements?

SaintJamie

1.) I agree with some of the players you listed, Mutch would've been another CM a position we don't need players in, it's the same situation with Rodwell, you can add Darlow, Lascelas, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Cresswell, Caulker, the list goes on, but I'm personally very happy with the player we've signed and think we'll be fine next season

2.) 16 Aug 2014 09:18:25
Jordan Mutch is class, however I would rather shoot myself than support Frasier Campbell. Not a team player and is always diving.

3.) I don't get why people care so much about the money for Long. it's not come out of your pocket! and he is a far better player than Campbell!

4.) Long was 8 upfront with another 4 in performance related fees, so if he ends up costing us 12 i'll be happy

15 Aug 2014 16:33:59
Koeman said Schneiderlin is back and training well, Cork still training and looking happy (from the pics SFC uploaded) and with our new signings, our squad is really coming along now. Would like to see a defender and a winger join by the end of the window and I will be a very happy saint!

What goes around comes around. We made teams overpay for our players and hull have done the same to us. End of story.

SaintJamie

1.) Reading what Steve Bruce said I get the feeling that we didn't exactly play hardball over the price and possibly could have been our first bid for the player

13 Aug 2014 14:22:48
Surely Long isn't joining to play second fiddle to Pelle. If he is going to start the two, he's going to have to play different to the 433 that we've been deploying preseason. It'll be difficult to change, but I think Pelle and Long compliment each other's play styles very well and as a pair upfront can be a good force. Yes it way to much to pay for long, but you cannot criticise until he has shown what he can do.

SaintJamie

1.) Long played off the Lukaku for WBA when they played us at home in a 4-3-3 shape, a couple of years ago and played a simular role to J Rod, playing off the main striker, I imagine this is where he'll play for us, whilst being able to play up top as the main striker if Pelle gets injured

I can't believe that we have let Frazier Campbell slip under our noses for £900k! For a player who can provide something we don't normally have up front, even off the bench, it would've been worth his buy out clause.

Saw some videos of Mane and he looks very quick and has great finishing ability. Similar to Andre Schurrle. Then I saw his record of 45 Goals and 32 Assists in 87 games!!

Great signing if under £5millon. £12million is way too much for a striker with 4 goals last season.

I'm not sure about Lens, never showed his PSV form at Dynamo. But then again, who else to get the best out of him than Koeman. Belhanda would be good but I think he is more of an attacking midfielder like Davis/Ramirez, where we should be looking for a true Winger/Striker

Volland is in a very similar position as Sterling. As of late a very key player to the club, making his breakthrough at international level, chipping in with a few goals but with bags of potential.

I agree, Lallana has taken years to become the player he is and has shone in his past 3/4 or so years. Tadic has only played 1 prem game and looks a great talent. Because Lallana is slow, his cryuff turns are becoming predictable and lallana never lasted us a full 90 minutes. Tadic has the potential to be a better player than lallana given some time.

Boruc had the hump after we bought Forster and didn't go to Liverpool and is most likely to move elsewhere. I have no idea about Ramirez.

Very difficult to say at this stage, especially as we haven't seen the team all together with the new signings and everything. But this team has the potential to do better than last season, but gelling will take some time so I reckon a top half finish 8/9

Shawcross/Vlaar/Dawson all good leaders. Don't know if Shawcross would leave, Stoke look a good team this season, would have to offer him big wages

Agree too, Cork should stay, especially seeing as we have had no bids come in for him. A Winger in Redmond/Lens and CB by the end of the transfer window would be good. A cover RB too in an ideal world.
