Any more news on gnabry?
Wenger must feel saints is the best place for him, and after giving them chambers must put us in the driving seat

Saintsmiff

1.) I would be very surprised if anything comes of this.
we have our own young wingers coming through, there is no point keeping them out of the team to develop someone elses youngsters

2.) You are right, but gnabry is a good player, and if it wasn't for Sanchez, I believe he would be on the verge of arsenal 1st team. Saw him play many times last year, and IMO is well ahead of our youngsters: isgrove, McQueen, reed, sims? A 6 month loan deal may release some of the pressure from what will be their 1st premier league season for saints 1st team

14 Jul 2014 07:55:29
So Arsenal are finally being linked with chambers, but reports suggest gnabry could be used in the deal. I really rate gnabry, showed some real potential for arsenal.

Saintsmiff

1.) We really need to keep the players we have left and just replace the ones that have gone. We can't risk replacing every player we have with players that have no premier league experience

2.) 14 Jul 2014 08:20:52
i find it strange that all the so called big clubs have not got a successful academy to bring young players through
so they go and buy other clubs youngsters
are these so called big managers that good
i think not
forestsaint

3.) 14 Jul 2014 08:41:06
Not as much potential as Chambers.tell them to shove it.

4.) 14 Jul 2014 09:08:43
As long as we don't lose clyne I feel this would be a good deal for us

5.) 14 Jul 2014 09:45:21
So Brendan Rodgers is linked in the papers this morning with wanting to take Jay Rod. Wouldn't it of been easier for him to become the new Southampton Manager when Mopo left instead of trying to buy the whole Southampton team? In koeman we trust!

6.) We need to keep some of our academy graduates! Stop selling!

7.) Will end in him getting sack these players are good but not world class, which is what you need to win the prem,

8.) Just my point of view - but if academy players could not be traded until the last day of their 21st b-day year - then almost every club would have to develop academy players and it would stop agents confusing young players with the promise of much money and they would just focus on breaking into the 1st team and developing their game.

9.) Jay Rod gave me the same feeling I get while watching Gareth Bale and I don't see why he can't make it to that level. Just hope we don't sell yet and ask these players to stay for the season and see how many games lallana and shaw and srl get at these big clubs. Might be able to prove a point. As for the above post about the bigger teams and the academy's it really is a laugh when saints are churning out talent all the time and give the players a chance in the prem while they are rubbish at it even with all the cash they have. Would like to see Jwp step up his set pieces and practice on those quite a lot.

10.) I would be totally gutted if chambers went, but Clyne will want to make this season his. I personally prefer chambers over Clyne. But do saints really need two top class right backs.
Gnabry for me looks like a top player. Germany u21, and looks dangerous on the wing. I think if we managed to sign somebody like gnabry, it would be one of the best signings this summer. i'm happy either way, and let's hope koeman makes the right decision ( if this rumour is even true lol)
As for jrod, there is no way on earth saints could afford to sell a key player in an area we are struggling. He will defo be a saints player next season.

11.) Saintsmiff,

You yourself and every man and his dog, give me the impression that we only need 11 players. We DO need competition for every place, which means 22 players min, or those who are versatile ( eg Clyne left or right back) to slightly bring the nos down.
What is the point of Jos H if he isn't competition. Only Clyne and Chambers competed for ONE place last season. One place. I think that cannot remain the same for this year. Injuries will happen. Lallana got injured and Guly came on, for example, laughable! Koeman hopefully will fix this, We need 6 ish plus replacements for who goes/has gone minimum. If that can include some genuine competition already here, good. Pelle goesoff and Gallacher comes on is a crap scenario for me.

12.) Larry,
I don't want chambers to go, I rate him a lot. I just think it's not the worst rumour to have been linked with. Lb and rb don't change a lot in a game. Shaw shone last year but I don't think he was the reason behind us finishing 8th. We have two top rb, which is a good thing, but both know, at another mid table club, they would be playing regular football. I just really rate gnabry, it would be a brilliant signing if we bought him outright with no player exchange.
If it was me though, I would let chambers go, replace with another young rb to challenge Clyne, just to get our hands on gnabry. Just my opinion

13.) Larry1, I could not have put it better myself. We need depth of squad, but also quality in depth. RK's style is to mix it up, he's a tactician so we will be playing different systems and utilising different players for those systems.
I still feel we need at least 5 quality players to add that depth and we have the funds and scouting team to make this possibility a reality

14.) Saints will not sale Chambers END OF.

15.) Chambers is potentially a future England captain, Clyne is also a potential international player-both can't be kept happy.

16.) 14 Jul 2014 18:40:12
Doubt this very much. Newcastle are poised to sign Daryl Janmaat freeing up Debuchy to move to arsenal. I highly doubt they would move for another right back aswell. Also I find it bvery hard to believe they would sell Gnabry considering his age and potential. If he is to move away from Arsenal this season a loan deal seems much more likely

17.) I would be very surprised if anyone that's in belgium with koeman now is leaving, apart from that baby lovren who will throw all his toys out and tip his pram over to get a move

18.) I personally think that selling Luke Shaw ( and I do wish him well ) is the best business any club will do this year. I know we don't really want foreign players but to get a full back with experience at least half the price has got to be the right thing to do. Could probably get Blind for 15 - 20 million to me that is just common sense, going to be a better player ( already is ) than Luke.

19.) Who cares, Koeman is a proper manager, been there done it.

20.) Shaws potential is insane.

21.) ^ but so is £30-£34m for a teenager! My tuppence, for what its worth, is that I expect to see Clyne moving to LB and Chambers at RB. Targett to provide cover whilst developing.

05 Jul 2014 12:45:49
Spider and lovren are looking to move, and with spider on a rumoured £9000 a week I don't blame him. Question is, is there any rumours of offering him improved contract? I though our key players would be on more like £50,000.

Saintsmiff

1.) 05 Jul 2014 14:29:04
I have said before that I think Marshall is just about the best keeper in the league. If true about an offer I think that sort of money is too much. Better to spend it on high quality CB's to protect the keeper not rely on a top class keeper to keep them out. Would still love Marshall to come but I think 7 to 8 would be tops money wise.

2.) 05 Jul 2014 14:31:33
I can only assume he signed the same contract a few years ago and just never got a new one. I'll be surprised if he does go without the board at least offering him a new contract.

3.) 05 Jul 2014 14:46:34
It seems to me that our wage structure has been the main reason for the mass exodus from all your comments. If true and these top quality players were on Championship wages and also not getting their promised bonuses it would appear they have had a justifiable reason to leave. Especially if there was no chance of negotiation and just wonder whether MoPo could see this as a major problem with player recruitment. Sounds a little like the day Gordon Strachan wanted to take us to the next level a few years ago and was politely told to " go away " by Mr ( I'll stick it in my bank account, thank you ) Lowe. Hope not otherwise we have no chance of progressing.

4.) Chrisdownj didn't strachan have the chance to sign Malouda and Drogba? crazzy

5.) We also had a chance to sign many players until they found out we probably were bankrupt! By the way how is the QPR manager getting on. hhhmmmmmm

6.) 05 Jul 2014 15:59:21
Yeah. In Strachan's autobiography he talks about 'he that shall not be named' and our previous chief scout refusing to pay £1/2 mill for Drogba. They took Delgago instead.
Not sure about Malouda but they also refused Van der Sar about the same time.

7.) 05 Jul 2014 18:33:09
Starchan and Rupert Lowe went to watch Drogba playing for Guingamp. After the game Lowe decided to offer 400k for Yahia the Algerian centre back and did not think Drogba was worth 1.5. 2 months later Marseille paid 1.5 for Drogba and sold him 12 months later to Chelsea for approx 20 mill

8.) So am right in thinking, ramires is on £30,000 - £50,000 and and one of our key players are on under £10,000. Surely that's not correct.

9.) Sounds like Lowe did the right thing in not spending more than Saints could afford

10.) He took most of it Dave along with other dodgy characthers.

11.) 06 Jul 2014 22:51:41
Lo*e did the right thing?? How much did we pay for tin man? 3mil wasn't it?
As Chris said. Amazing how we made all those millions on sales of players and when the new board came in they couldn't find a lot of it.

16 Jun 2014 18:22:29
BBC suggesting koeman is interested in bringing lex immers, pelle, and djike.
What's interesting is immers signed a new contract in May, keeping him at the club until 2017. This leads me to question the reliability of the source, and wonder if pelle and djike are also the result of lazy journalism.

Saintsmiff

1.) I think due to some strange technicality he didn't officially sign for Feyenoord until May this year due to some agency fee his old club weren't willing to pay? The contract doesn't necessarily mean he won't move on this summer. Although I do think these are just links based on Koeman being the new boss rather than solid sources.

2.) Lallana is contracted til 2018. Hasn't stopped the vultures. media and big clubs alike.

3.) Agreed Kent, although they will have to pay a lot of money because of this. I can't see us paying ridiculous money for somebody just because they have a lengthy contract. In fact, some media reports suggest we are putting off potential suitors due to our high valuation. I would think we would be more willing to sell if our prized assetts were into their last 2 years of their contract

4.) I'm not sure about Immers as he's quite old and prefer someone younger and Pelle although is a good player is a bit of trouble maker

11 Jun 2014 17:27:48
Lovren hands in formal transfer request according to talk sport, what going on?

Saintsmiff

{Ed002's Note - It would not be out of the question for Lovren to move on this summer and with Southampton showing an interest in Caulker the club are likely expecting offers. Interest is there from Roma and Liverpool and even Barcelona may be keeping a watching brief. Liverpool had a verbal offer rejected as being far too low for the player. Spurs are looking for two centre backs and will, with their new manager, also look to Lovren. This should not be a shock - you were told weeks ago but the site was then occupied by idiots who were feeding misinformation.}

1.) Ed 002 - you can lead a fool to wisdom but you can't make him think. Some fans still seem to be wearing blinkers.

2.) 11 Jun 2014 17:56:49
Agree with Ed completely. A massive shame as he has been an excellent signing and would be missed.

3.) Wasn't Lovren the first one to public ally come out and say he was happy at Southampton and wasn't looking to move?

4.) So now is the time to steady the Saints ship and get our new manager in and bring some stability to all!

5.) Talksport got that from the Daily Fail so make of it what you will. We need a new manager asap so all the players stop handing in transfer requests, its getting stupid now.

6.) I just hope if he does go he leaves the country double gutted if he goes to spurs

7.) 11 Jun 2014 19:06:54
So how many you reckon will go out of our first 11 this summer. Media thinks all of them I think this makes it 4 very likely to be off including Lambert and that's not including schniederlin as well. We will have a shedload of cash but as we see at spurs last year its hard to gel a team straight away and we didn't finish 5th the season before or just lose 1 player hmm

8.) Ed - totally agree, I got blasted for even mentioning lovern was one of 3 or 4 to go. It is easier to bury your head in the sand.

9.) I said a while back that lovren leaving woukd be more of a blow than lallana. hope he decides to stay if manager in soon. Him and caulker would be a quality pairing

10.) Gregg, just a polite point, lovren was recently quoted as saying he was happy at saints and was up to the board if they want to sell. You shouldn't have been offended if some fans hit the dislike button when saying lovren was wanting to leave

11.) This story was broken by Neil Ashton of the Daily mail, not saying it isn't true but take it with a pinch of a salt. This same journalist has been posting supposed "meltdown" stories about Saints all post-season. It seems coincidental that this breaks a day after a positive statement from Reed.

12.) Lovren quote
I follow the media and I saw that Liverpool is allegedly interested in me. But that is all that I know so far.

I feel great at Southampton and my contract is valid for the next three years.

So the only thing I can say right now is that the club is the one who decides.

13.) 11 Jun 2014 23:15:14
Please please chill out! The press are trying to destabilise the club. ride it out and you will be amazed at the next stage of progression the club makes, we could well finish in the top 5 next season, 2015-2016 season top 4!

14.) Saintsmiff - I didn't take offence, just been on the receiving end for sharing knowledge from within, knowledge I now largely hold back. It's not that I mind the dislike or disagree button but I am not just writing stuff for the sake of it. I would love to say they all want to stay for the rest of their career but lovern's head was turned weeks ago. On the plus side if the figures I am hearing are right we will make a massive profit.

15.) To ed and Greg, to all the information you have given, all I asked is why? But I haven't seen a satisfactory response. Again, I will reiterate, it will be very hard for a fan to accept all the information you have provided, without a reason.
If I remember rightly, you said lovren is wanted by Liverpool and that the club 'need to raise £60m' over the course of the summer.
Lovren handed a transfer request in as he wanted champions league. I feel the board will want him to stay. I will be surprised if the club sell to spurs, given they are not in the champions league.
Not having a go, but after les reeds interview, I'm struggling to see where the club is heading.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea which Editor this is aimed at. Liverpool made a verbal offer for Lovren which was far from acceptable to Southampton. It would not be a surprise to see an offer from Spurs.

I have not said anything about any £60M.}

16.) Ed - do you have any information whether this actually is a FORMAL transfer request, or is it pure speculation based upon this reported e-mail (which I assumed was a 'move forward or let me go' ultimatum)?

{Ed002's Note - His representative has confirmed that a transfer request has been submitted.}

17.) Lovren was not actually someone I metioned as certain to go. that was shaw and lallana and from what I understand that is still the case. Lovern is different as he feels (I would agree) he is good enough for a higher level. as I have said in another post, it is not doom and gloom, its business. investment will still come and players will be sold.

18.) 12 Jun 2014 15:40:41
Remember Lovren was subject to a very detailed analyses by Saints ahead of his transfer to enable a weakness identified in the team last season by MP to be rectified. This worked extremely well.

Will another manager see him as vital to his plans? Impossible to know at this stage, as we don't know who that will be yet. IMO the new manager may still see Lovren as key and fight hard to keep him, or he might have other ideas about CBs. Where I think Lovren is different to some of the other players who may go is that there is no chance that he can be replaced internally so I would expect the club to be pretty careful about letting him go and will want to be able to bring in a quality replacement. Not sure that the names suggested so far would fit that description.

19.) I was aiming the 60m gregge way. Not trying to offend, just saying what I feel, when somebody says somebody's leaving, or being sold, it's hard to understand the reason why if no reason is given. Lovren leaving for champions league is fair, he has done very well and IMO a CL player. But I thought he would have stayed one more year, rather than hand in a transfer request. Surely playing at saints can't be that bad? Hopefully the new manager can attract other top players

Toby to spurs confirmed.
Cabaye heavily linked to palace
Gueye heavily linked to villa
Any more news on replacements for spider and Toby? clasie rumour still circulating. I'm sure we have many other targets we don't know about

Saintsmiff

02 Aug 2014 07:37:35
Boruc linked with b. munich.
I can see him moving if we sign another keeper. I don't think they would sign forster and plan to put either on the bench, although we do need a better second keeper than Davis and gazza

Saintsmiff

1.) 02 Aug 2014 10:56:29
So many posts about the FFP rules etc. and I don't think a lot of our supporters understand why we can't just throw shed loads of money into team and do a Blackburn. It has been explained quite impressively by many on here like SaintPhil etc. however can anybody tell me why the rules don't seem to apply to Harry the Hood and his band of honchos at QPR. I find this very baffling.

2.) 02 Aug 2014 13:36:53
nothing seems to apply to Harry

30 Jul 2014 22:08:27
So, Bertrand on loan, a bit of a step down from rojo. But still he has potential and koeman is the man to get the best out of him. Good appointment IMO coyr!

25 Jul 2014 10:34:15
The mirror have reported that van djiik would be keen to play for koeman over Swansea and Sunderland.
I haven't seen much of him, but one of the eds posted a YouTube video on the banter site and he looks good. I feel he would need a commanding center back next to him.
Lovren - van djiik + vlaar
Spider - clasie
Lambert - pelle
Lallana - tadic
Shaw - rojo
If these deals pulled of I would class this window as good business considering the circumstances.

Papers are suggesting lovren to sign for Liverpool, which is understandably believable.
Koeman says no new bid, and unless that happens he will still be a saints player.
I really hope les reed and koeman are on the same wavelengths. Otherwise this saga will start to look really embarrassing, more than it already is

Saintsmiff

1.) 22 Jul 2014 12:03:36
would take koemans word more than les reed
he is more honest

Think Toby played right back twice. Defensive mf a couple when spider was injured.
Plays right back for Belgium and played mainly right back for athletico. Cb is his preferred natural position. That was part of the lure of joining saints was the fact we could offer him a starting Cb role

We can offer Clyne Europa league football, but so can Liverpool, but better money. I would go if I was him and not a saints fan.
What frustrates me the most is you can guarantee he will be a starter for England now regardless of his form for Liverpool.

I think we will continue to build each year. We will always struggle to be a guaranteed top for club, but if we improve year on year, then we would be ready to pounce if the any of the top four underperform like last season.
Spider is replaceable, for all we know he could really struggle at the top level, just like other departures have found out.
Not fussed on Clyne leaving. I preferred chambers as a right back than Clyne. He was very average second half of lady season. Hardly ever bombed forward like he did, and defensively is very average imo

I think jwp suits deeper roles. He plays there for England quite well. Same with Davis, very versatile.
we will need the strength in depth this season imo.
Plus I think if we were to sign cabaye, he could play in the middle 3 of 433.

Europa goes to 5th, league and fa cup winners.
If both winners and runners up of the cups have qualified for champions leagueor europa then their places get handed down to 6th and 7th.
Chelsea won the league cup, spurs runners up so almost certainly 6th will get a spot.
Fa cup next so will be interesting to see the next round of fixtures. Arsenal v man u being a pivotal fixture for europa league quaqualification.
As for champions league, a fifth team would be eligible to play in the competition from England if an English club won it.

Fu2 is right. In horse racing you don't get eight horses running all at eight to one. There are favourites (city and Chelsea), and outsiders like us. Swansea are technically still in the 'race', and they would be even higher odd, maybe 100 to one one?

We have been unlucky with results. I just think he didn't want to heap too much pressure on pelle considering he was our only fit striker the past few weeks. As for Toby, he is on loan, and Yoshida has played quite well since his injury. defensively we are ok and don't need to rush him back with him only resuming training today.
Got to laugh at lovren, he has had a dreadful start to his Liverpool career. But tbh, I doubt he feels that bad once he gets home to his multi million pound house and a fat pay cheque tomorrow lol

I'm a bit with mcs on this one. Even when Krueger was asked about shaw and lallana, he couldn't say he can guarantee they won't be sold. He said they are in control. In control of any ins and outs. They want to speak to a new manager b4 any transfers as well. IMO poch wanted to leave back in jan when cortese left. Maybe a bit bitter about it. But I do think some of our star players have a price. Maybe just very high prices, hence not bring able to "guarantee" they will still be here.
I do think though, any transfer money raised, a large percentage would go back into transfers

I hope not even if speculation is true. the backbone of saints from the last 3 years has been ruthlessly ripped apart lol we should need only one or two more players to add to our current squad to make a marked improvement.
