Pelgrino has said there are some good players available so we could see some deals completed!

St Sam

{Ed002's Note - Surely not!}

1.) 27 Aug 2017 13:40:44
Lol ed brilliant, any movement on rent or are there any other targets you are aware of? The manager saying we are waiting for movement in the market do you think that's in regards to Remy because I though he was free to move on?

{Ed002's Note - Nothing new happened overnight.}

13 Aug 2017 13:16:20
More rumours about Vieto, I think if we played him in behind Gabbiadini or Austin that could be dangerous. Could be a very good signing, any truth in this eds?

St Sam

{Ed002's Note - There is plenty of interest in Vietto but none I know of from Southampton at all.}

1.) 13 Aug 2017 13:56:32
Okay fair enough, cheers Ed! Are there any other attacking that we're currently interested in?

{Ed002's Note - Patrick Roberts as a winger.}

2.) 13 Aug 2017 14:23:43
Okay interesting, cheers ed!

3.) 14 Aug 2017 08:57:39
Ed002 - Are Manchester City still not interested in selling Patrick Roberts and only want to loan?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, their preference is for him to get experience at Southampton rather than Celtic but Southampton would rather buy him than simply give experience to another club's player.}

4.) 14 Aug 2017 14:04:26
Do you think he's likely to end up here ed? and if he does more likely because we give in and loan him or they in and sell him?

{Ed002's Note - Manchester City would prefer it but I cannot say what will eventiually happen.}

A few people have started talking about who should be next captain which could be interesting. Obviously Davies is already club captain and VVD was "captain on the pitch". I think Bertrand could make a really good choice, but also Romeu after how fantastic he was last year. JWP definitely has the potential but do we think it's too soon for him? Interestingly Yoshida'a worn the armband a few times recently, however if a player isn't certain to start I'm not sure he can be captain, what does everyone think?

Very excited by the Lemina deal, feel like this will give us our best CDM partnership since Morgan and Wanyama with Romeu and Lemina. Young and powerful player with a lot of potential and a club record deal! I'll be interested to see our next move in the market now, but got a good feeling about this season.

St Sam

1.) 08 Aug 2017 19:39:51
Think this could be the end of Davis be interesting to see who is captain if not him or VVD wouldn't mind oriel hopefully one or two more to come in and none out.

2.) 08 Aug 2017 22:01:57
I was wondering about this, I think Bertrand could be a an excellent choice too and a good reward for his loyalty over the past few years.

3.) 08 Aug 2017 22:11:13
Think Davis is a slightly different type of player and will still get some game time, though probably not every game anymore. I'd say it's more likely to mean the end for Clasie, but we'll see.

4.) 09 Aug 2017 00:55:50
Don't think a lot of you realise what a good player Steve Davis is. He is super fit, a workhorse and makes the team tick when we're struggling. He is always reliable, one of our best Jesus he is only 31 .

5.) 09 Aug 2017 00:59:02
Sorry he is 32 but super fit.

6.) 09 Aug 2017 09:25:06
Think Davis would be worth using a sub, he is probably one of the best work horses in the league, but that seems to be his only quality. He is the type of player that you would want to bring on when you're up at the 60-minute mark to chase down the ball. I think we'll play 3-2-1 in midfield with JWP as an attacking mid. Then as the game develops and subs are made we'd change that to a 3-3 to give us a more solid shape. Alternatively, with the depth of our midfield, a diamond midfield with 2 up top could also work.

7.) 09 Aug 2017 15:02:00
JWP would make a great captain. Already has experience with the England U21s plus he is our longest serving player.

8.) 09 Aug 2017 21:48:39
Surely a captain has to be an ever present, first name on the team sheet and leader both on and off the pitch. I don't see jwp there yet and probably not for a good few years. Davis or Romeu are about the only ones other than Bertrand perhaps. I think Rom would be quality and actually could reign in the slightly more aggressive side of his game.

Does anyone know what's happening with Hesketh and Sims? Both looked promising last year, are they injured?

St Sam

1.) 05 Aug 2017 13:11:31
Both are available but are fringe players, Sims looked useful but I think he picked up a knock towards the end of last season.

Did we even try and sign anyone yesterday eds? Seemed to be a quiet day on the south coast.

St Sam

1.) 01 Sep 2017 13:04:03
The way clubs were throwing cash around yesterday, I think It's probably good we didn't sign anyone yesterday! the whole transfer deadline seemed like a free-for-all to me. If Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Drinkwater are both worth £35mil each we would realistically need to spend £35 - £50 million on a forward of any calibre! that just isn't the way we do things. I think It's a gamble but obviously we have a fit first 11 to choose and January is only a few months away so maybe it was decided to see how it goes till the next window?

22 Aug 2017 14:01:15
Sounds like Hoedt is nearly done, which will leave with (if VVD stays) the most quality in depth in that position that we've ever had.

Shame Gallagher's gone out on loan as I'd love to see him in the 1st team this year, especially as he's a target man. Which I think we have missed last year, as we got so many goals over the years from Pelle's/ Lambert's knock downs. But hopefully he can plan regularly and develop again.

I think we've signed well and added quality to the team, I'd like to see a wide forward with pace and flair come in, not that we're desperate for it but would be the icing on the cake IMO, someone a bit like Niang who Watford had on loan last year? In terms of style anyway.

St Sam

1.) 22 Aug 2017 14:06:10
We need a striker surely someone is coming in with big Sam going out we need a target man we have loaners olufelo 3 in 3 for Yeovil sold j rid now loaned Seager and Sam with nobody coming in up front?

2.) 22 Aug 2017 23:39:04
What shirt are they going to give him ed?

{Ed007's Note - A red and white stripey one. Probably with a big 6 on the back as well.}

3.) 23 Aug 2017 07:39:11
Nice one ed ta.

{Ed007's Note - No probs buddy.}

14 Aug 2017 14:01:44
Apparently we've put in a bid for Hoedt and had one rejected for Wimmer? Any truth eds?

St Sam

{Ed002's Note - Certainly Wimmer.}

05 Aug 2017 19:25:47
The manager has played down reports that we're close to signing Lemina, which is a shame. Could be a quality addition.

St Sam

1.) 05 Aug 2017 20:22:19
Puel did the same thing with Boufal aswell it's not uncommon for our managers to play down reports of players possibly signing for us. Having said that! He is a very talent d player and we may lose out but I'm not in the know! I'll leave that to people who are. Maybe ed has some information who knows.

02 Aug 2017 20:23:39
I hope the Hoedt rumours are true, £12m for a good, young, ball playing CB represents good value in a transfer window where transfer fees have rocketed plus a left footed CB would be a good way to build from the back. I think then maybe another attacking player and we'd be set for the season. By the players we've been linked with it seems like that is what we're after anyway. I'm quite excited for the season under the new manager. I'd love to see us try and move for the Ox, a player who wants to leave Arsenal for more game time, who isn't going to trade the Gunners bench for another top 6 side's bench. Barring the VVD situation as it's boring now, what's everyone else's thoughts on the coming season?

St Sam

1.) 03 Aug 2017 09:16:02
I caught about 20-25 minutes of the game on and off. I saw the first goal, which was a good strike, not top corner so if we're being critical Forester could have saved it. Other than that we looked quite positive moving the ball about at pace maintaining possession. Same story as last season we're not clinical or creative enough in the final third of the pitch. I wouldn't say it's the manager, I would say we have a team of average players. It's hard to pick a starting 11 because each player is of the same ability and have different traits that make them great.

Is there anyone new we're interested in Ed? I've heard rumours of a few teams being interested in Long?

St Sam

{Ed002's Note - Not beyond what I said about Remy.}

His best spell for the club was when he got back from injury under Koeman which saw us reach 6th in the league!

Likewise you don't see all our youth products go out on loan, if they're good enough they'll go straight through to the first team. I. e JWP, Shaw, Chambers, Targett. But then McQueen and Stephens have come into the team after loans. I'd say we're managing it well tbh.

Come on he has been nowhere near as bad as people have made out. He didn't have the best of seasons last year, but nor did a lot of our players, have some faith.

Maybe he doesn't have the link up play of Pelle/ Lambert but we'll have to see, we haven't really been linked to any target men so far, I doubt we want to block Gallaghers path to the first team. I can imagine us signing a versatile wide forward who can play as the main striker and just off of him.

Saint Dan that's pretty much exactly what I had in mind! Think Boufal will only come good with a run of games and would love to see him and Redmond on either flank.

A long time St duke! I think the new manager will come good, it's been a steady start (ish) it will take time for the players to adapt to what he wants from the team and for new signings to settle.

Subs weren't the issue, we still created chances at the end of the match which we should've finished. It doesn't come down to not having a goal scorer as the chances are falling to a number of different players, as a team we need to be a lot more clinical.

I agree that we lacked enthusiasm as that on paper looked like a strong team. I actually thought a number on players would have a point to prove to get in to the starting 11 but didn't seem that way. Lacked any real movement up top, McQueen seemed bright in the first half. Bednarek seemed to settle in after a nervy start, Boufal had some bright but equally frustrating moments. not sure there are any other positives to spin from that sadly very poor tonight after a promising start to the season. Austin seemed to offer very little in terms of link up play and movement which annoyed me. Best just to move on from that I think.

Not sure what else to say, other than it was decent of Lemina to take photos with fans at the end of a disappointing game!

I agree Vick would love to see a Stephens Hoedt partnership. Stephens has been brilliant and progressed a lot since coming in to the team. Even if VVD does come back it will probably take him a while to get match sharp and get in the right "mind set", so we're probably looking a bit of a wait after the transfer window closes anyway, I reckon October time.
