Rumour about Saints putting in an offer of 8 million for Loic Remy?

Any truth in this EDS?

Steve230891

{Ed002's Note - Fenerbahce are in discussions with Chelsea and he is available. I am not aware of an offer right now.}

1.) 17 Jul 2016 07:46:13
Yeh this has been rumoured before, I for one would love to see him in a Saints shirt.

2.) 17 Jul 2016 22:29:55
Would be a very good option for us.

3.) 18 Jul 2016 00:25:37
Not an option we are looking at.

4.) 20 Jul 2016 07:59:26
According to today's papers it is in fact Besiktas that are targeting Loic Remy but that will, of course, be if they can't wrap up the signature of Mario Gomez from Fiorentina :)

I have read that we have made an approach/ expressed an interest in Hal Robson-Kanu joining us on a free transfer. We are one of a number of Premier League clubs, including West Ham. Kanu will make his decision when he returns from the Euros.

Any EDS have any additional details? Do you guys think he will be a good addition?

He has performed well in the Euros and we need some rotation in our squad with the Premier League and Europa.

Steve230891

{Ed001's Note - he was very average until his contract ended and he got to the Euros. He is playing out of his skin, way above his usual level. I doubt a single Reading fan was unhappy to see his contract expire to be honest.}

1.) 03 Jul 2016 21:29:35
No. Just No.

2.) 04 Jul 2016 11:12:58
You state he is average, but, he has obviously got potential and he has shown that. If he has the right manager and club that can be improved and he could be a star.

In my opinion any player that shows some potential can be guided to great things. He would certainly do a job for us as back up.

Would everyone still disagree?

Apparently soon we will be completing a deal for 21 yr old Nano from CD Teneriffe (same place Newcastles Perez came from) - he is a forward.

German papers have also spoke to Bas Dost, who is keen to move to an English Team, and have reported that he feels Southampton would be a good move for him - however, not sure Saints have followed this up.

Eds; have any thoughts on the above? Are we certain that Claude Puel will be signing up to take us forward?

Steve230891

1.) 27 Jun 2016 17:15:42
I looked at a YouTube video of Nano earlier today, and have to admit to be very underwhelmed. He doesn't look that impressive at all, but he is young (so maybe they see him as one for the future? ) . Das Bost on the other hand does look good - Reminds me of a certain Peter Crouch (mainly because he's 6'5!) - If the club are looking to replacement Pelle, then he'd seem the perfect option ;-)

2.) 27 Jun 2016 19:46:19
Check out this video, to me nano looks like an exciting player although he has been playing in the second tier of Spanish football.

EDS - any further updates on Tonny Vilhenna or Filip Djurcic? Both seem good prospects, Tonny a great replacement for Cork and Filip looks fast and skillful - should work with Pelle hold up play. Koeman confirmed interest so I reckon we will be going for both - guessing contracts, fees and agents would be only stumbling blocks as with all transfers. Deadline day drama do we think??

Steve230891

{Ed002's Note - Tonny Vilhena is attracting the interest of Southampton, Napoli and Juventus, but Feyenoord do not want to sell before the summer. Southampton have submitted an offer for the player to see what the reaction will be.

An effort is being made to bring Djuricic to the club on loan - it is dragging out rather.}

1.) 31 Jan 2015 17:31:18
Cheers, let's hope we hear something soon then, think they would both be great additions.

2.) 31 Jan 2015 21:03:55
I see Vilhena is keen on the move, but we have already had 1 bid rejected by feyenoord, however i think (after researching) that this is more likely to happen than the Djuricic deal which is dragging out for some reason.

3.) 31 Jan 2015 22:09:30
Maybe work permit is reason?

{Ed002's Note - It will be to do with extracting him from a loan contract with an option to buy.}

24 Jan 2015 20:33:56
Any striker rumours EDS ? Now that Long is out for 3-5 weeks

Steve230891

{Ed002's Note - Not strikers but Tonny Vilhena is attracting the interest of Southampton, Napoli and Juventus, but Feyenoord do not want to sell before the summer.}

1.) 25 Jan 2015 11:24:06
From listening to a recent interview it would fit in with Koeman saying he is likely to go Dutch in the summer.
The Echo reports that there is unlikely to be any January signings but Long's injury may force his hand.

2.) 25 Jan 2015 22:16:05
I expect he may go for a loan striker rather than paying over the odds at this stage. He will be wanting to hold on to any transfer funds available until he knows which competitions we will be in come the start of next season!!!

3.) 25 Jan 2015 22:19:24
It's just occurred to me. But how about Rickie lambert on a loan deal till EOS?!

4.) 26 Jan 2015 17:23:31
Get over it the lambert boat has sailed move on

5.) 26 Jan 2015 21:51:13
heard over the weekend (ex bbc source) that jay rod will not play this season.

can anyone throw any light on this as i have not seen anything reported.

if true we will need to bring someone in given that long will be out for a few weeks.

I hope that the story is not true

6.) 27 Jan 2015 01:59:19
@golac Koeman said in the Palace presser, (I think, may have been the week before) that J-Rod was doing well but not close to returning to training. I'm guessing it's at least another 3/4weeks before he's back training and then another 3/4 weeks before he's fit enough to play.

i'm not an expert or particularly ITK but I'd say the Everton or Hull game in April is the earliest we're likely to see him back. Cutting it close but we could get a month out of him - depends if the club want to risk him or give him the extra month off

@jamesaint Lambert was never the fittest, had chronic back problems and age isn't on his side, who knows what half a season sat on the bench has done to him? I doubt he'd be able to keep up with our team now. As much as we all loved him @smirky's right, he's not coming back and everyone needs to forget about bringing him in

7.) 27 Jan 2015 13:45:27
Thanks saints let's hope he returns asap

8.) 28 Jan 2015 18:47:53
How exactly has the lambert boat gone? He is not getting games at liverpool, he used to play for southampton not that long ago. It seems to make sense to me, but ok, I'll let it go shall I? Let's move on and talk about something else. Ok. What would you like to talk about? Only it seems to me that this is a thread based on our current shortage of strikers and whom we could potentially move for in this area, unless of course I am mistaken in which case I preffer blinds to curtains and most certainly don't like net curtains.

9.) 28 Jan 2015 22:32:07
By the way, that's not aimed at saintysaintsainty. Although, to you, I agree that half a season on the bench won't have done him much good but we are only looking for another option at a good price. He would be cheap if not free (on a loan) and would give us options. Also I'm sure he would come.

So now that Bouffal is done and dusted, who are we expecting to be the 2nd player (as it seemed 2 were confirmed by Clause Puel, but maybe misinterpreted)

Are we ok at RB with Pied now out with injury? - will Cuco remain as backup?

I imagine either a striker or another attacking midfielder.

Redmond looked good in No 10 role - so perhaps we keep him there, Tadic back on LW.

Any rumours EDs?

Steve230891

1.) 29 Aug 2016 19:13:07
Redmond is a winger NOT a striker or a no10, we have no natural no10 hopefully Boufal will solve this although he is still primarily a winger.

2.) 29 Aug 2016 23:23:41
Redmond is not a number 10 and should be deployed off a target man as Mane was off Pelle.
I am hoping Jay Rod doesn't go, he's miles ahead of Austin and why did Puel drop Long?

3.) 30 Aug 2016 00:52:05
Good post St. Russ but to be fair to Puel he is trying a system that he thinks will work in the long term . However in the PL you don't get time to sort it and as the points drift away a slight element of panic sets in . We will easily survive this season in the league but won't be where we were last season by quite a long way . So many teams have improved their squads and it has become a bit of a mid table lottery . We must sign a Pelle lookalike because I think Redmond could almost match Mane if he is played in a similar role . Interesting times ahead but let's not get too down hearted, you know the Saints, they could put a run together of 4 straight wins and the tune changes . Not a great start but give them a chance, it's all new to most of them with the new system and the change of players.

4.) 30 Aug 2016 11:19:00
3 games in - 2 draws and 1 loss. Could be better but agree with Chris that given time and players adapting to the new system will see a change of fortunes. Well done the board for splashing the cash of an exciting player who I predict will set the league alight.

Will be very interesting waking up on Thursday morning to see if there are any more additions. I think we will be surprised at an addition or more . Perhaps I'm the only one that believes from what I've seen that there is improvement in adapting to the new system. The owner, the board have faith in Puel which I share. I'd take a top 10 finish or better now. Keep the faith.

21 Jul 2015 21:09:01
So Esteban Cambiasso has not signed for Leicester. I know he is 34 now, but, would he be worth a punt for a year or so? Not sure how he performed this year, but, experienced player.

What are peoples thoughts?

Steve230891

1.) 21 Jul 2015 22:52:20
i think it would be a worthwhile signing.it would add depth and It would ad some experience when it is needed, plus give a little more time for the youngers to come through without having the pressure pilled on if one of our cm gets a lengthy injury.

2.) 22 Jul 2015 12:40:25
Would love to see cambiasso signed, but I think he would want to be playing as much football as possible and I couldn't see him starting that many games for us, which wouldn't be fair. Maybe Bournemouth should try and get him!

3.) 22 Jul 2015 13:08:21
Ahah typical of this site. Mention Vlaar and he's a donkey, he's past it, no better than what we have and we should sign someone else. Mention Cambiasso and its yeah! Sign him up

4.) 22 Jul 2015 14:51:21
Exactly where do you see him playing?
And who are you going to pick him over?
I despair sometimes!!

02 Feb 2015 22:16:19
So the multi million pound signing is just securing services of Ryan Bertrand? Or is their still rumours of any other players? - sounds like its going quiet at St Marys!

Zaza*

What do you all think about the knee injury though? Out until middle of next month (if no complications) - got to hope he is still on form after injury.

Read the post JamesSaint.

I would not want to buy those two players for over 100 million as that does not make business sense for our club.

Seems like all these people writing posts think its easy to just run a business and consistently spend millions.

Its unfortunate that a large part of our fan base is delusional!

What if we bought Ibra and Pogba, then they got injured? We would be back to square 1 - we need to add players to a squad, not just spend silly money on a marquee signing just to stop the bedwetters. People seem to forget that when we helped youth we made Bale, Walcott, Chamberlain, Chambers, Shaw, Lallana - so what is wrong with doing the same again?

^^^ how do you know what our Manager and Board are thinking?

1) Press Conferences will not have us saying that we are desperate for a target man as that will make us look poor, and will raise the price on every prospect we look at.

2) We can be making bids behind the scenes that are failing - we are not going to start promising something if we are unable to deliver it

3) We have strikers. Everyone seems to be ITK that JRod, SL and CA won't score a set number of goals. Those same ITK individuals also know for a fact that we have lost X amount of goals from Pelle and Mane - would love to know how they can tell the future - what if we kept Pelle and he broke his leg after transfer windows were shut? Being out injured would not guve us goals.

4) Osvaldo was a target man - look what happened there.

The Southampton Way is to breed youth, buy prospects and function as a business. Even if we could afford Pogba and Ibra I would wouldn't want them - 10 x 10 million decent prospects is a better route than having the worlds most expensive player.

Maybe I am just mad and should be a bedwetter like the rest of you?

x.

I read about the 16.8 million buy back clause also. I think this is a non mover.

Saints like to biy olayers they have reviewed for years in their Black Box, unless we coincidentally have reviewed Jese (or perhaps we enquired before and Real Madrid said no at the time, and now changed their mind) then I do not think we would go for the player - we don't have enough information on him.

Everyone also complains we are a selling club, so I cannot imagine Les ever agreeing to the buy back clause - as if he did a job then we would be looking at selling him at a bigger profit.

I would expect that now Puel is back in the UK he will be looking into player signings (based on pre season) - we will only know the player once they have signed.
