Was just reading that cambasso is a free agent after single handedly keeping leister city in the league he might be 34 but he's also a football genius and as fit as any 25 yr old on his experience alone we should be snapping him up imagine how much wanyama reed davis and prowsy could learn from him

I'm afraid I disagree. We're now well beyond bringing in aging players who will only be able to muster 1 season at this level. You can't base a team around a player where you can't guarantee his legs will cut it in 12 months time.

We're being linked and completing with the 'cream of Europe' - We may not get them all, but you have to try and get players with huge potential and as Saints is now a extremely run 'organisation' we seem to only bring in players that have a good sell-on or market value if they either 1) do well and are approached or 2) don't make the grade, but still young enough to recoup a transfer fee.

2.) 01 Jul 2015 15:15:15
Just an update osvaldo has been released so we got a space free

30 Jun 2015 08:07:39

1.) 29 Jun 2015 10:16:12
Nothing will happen until we know what's happening with TA.

2.) 29 Jun 2015 18:40:32
Apart from him being on honeymoon & the Press saying he's close to signing for Spuds, anyone know anything else re TA?

09 Jun 2015 13:46:20
Cedric so ares is supposed to sign today must mean clones off

Stuie76

1.) 09 Jun 2015 14:52:55
My mate I work with from Portugal said Cedric is almost a done deal

2.) According to twitter gossip clyne had a text from lovern saying don't waste your career at Liverpool so it could be United.

3.) 09 Jun 2015 21:48:55
Ed was it to much mate?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what you mean mate, sorry.}

4.) 10 Jun 2015 07:24:32
Likely to be media trollope.

5.) 10 Jun 2015 13:28:11
The sooner everyone gets to grips with Clyne and Spider moving on the better.
Both won't be with us next season.
They will be replaced though so don't hit the panic button yet

09 Jun 2015 08:30:49
Apparently we have turned down a decent from a big championship club for reed wich hopefully means he is going to play a big part this season my queen is going out on loan though with Blackburn interested

Stuie76

1.) 09 Jun 2015 10:45:37
And my bishop moves on your king. Check mate.

2.) 09 Jun 2015 12:47:03
Reed is a Championship quality player and Saints should have bitten their hand off. Likewise Prowse. Their is a rumour that Saints are starting to look outside of the UK for foreign input into the Academy, about time. The Academy at the moment doesn't seem to have any Premiership possible players. Chelsea and Arsenal don't bother with English, etc academy people as they don't seem to be good enough.

3.) 09 Jun 2015 12:58:01
Youve sunk my battleship!

4.) 09 Jun 2015 13:44:58
Have you ever seen a saints game Larry1 we had 8 youth players play in the premier league this season alone, as for Chelsea the last youth player they produced that played regularly in their team was John Terry they don't produce anything they buy players, and arsenal youth players are the ones that we didn't want

5.) 09 Jun 2015 19:51:20
I have seen EVERY game last season. No other team would have played these players. Koeman had a thin squad care of that tosser Les Reed. The manager had no choice because of a small squad and the usual end of year injuries. He had to field these Championship quality olayers 'cus he had no choice. As soon as he had a choice, Prowse started on the bench.

6.) 09 Jun 2015 21:45:31
I'm sure you're a brilliant PL manager Larry1, in your own mind. I guess Southgate is out of his depth picking JWP as captain of the U-21's. Rumor has it he's be in line for a full England call up after the U-21 Euro Championship.

7.) 09 Jun 2015 21:51:30
Larry1
Is spot on its just to much for some to admit we ain't got no more real talent left
Les is a tosser
Jwp ain't Beckham
Only thing is I believe reed has got something to him

8.) 09 Jun 2015 23:13:45
Reed was the best player on the pitch in the home game against West Ham and made Song look championship quality, need to give the youth time to develop and not expect them the finished article in there first couple of games/seasons.

9.) 10 Jun 2015 07:26:36
Spot on Saint Ralph

{Ed001's Note - I can't believe anyone would question Reed, he is one of the highest rated young players in English football. Every year I always ask around about potential stars coming through, the last few years Harrison Reed has been one that has been put forward as a future potential international player. More than one person has told me they believe he will be a future England captain, and I am talking about people within the game, not just Southampton fans getting carried away. One who said it is a Portsmouth fan, so he was defo not biased towards the lad.}

10.) 10 Jun 2015 08:16:51
It's an absolute joke to question reeds quality and with players like hesketh and target pretty much first teamers these guys haven't a clue what they are talking about ,laughable

11.) 10 Jun 2015 08:32:23
I'd really like to hear why you think Les Reed is a tosser Southampton87 or Larry1? On what planet would we better off without him as our Director of Football?

12.) 10 Jun 2015 14:30:44
Larry1 are you serious? Are you even a real Southampton fan? Because you really don't sound like it. So in your mind we fielded all these 'Championship' players yet we still managed to finish 7th in the premier league? Nice one

13.) 11 Jun 2015 04:35:01
Why is less a tosser
Um let me think. We're broke till we sell player's. But hang on let's throw 11mil on long are u having a laugh. I said I believe reed is talented and a hustler but Hesketh don't get to carried away how many times do u think he played premiership games and target played how many times oh yes when he slipped on his ass and let the other team score Clyne was offered a contract and when he didn't sign koeman put Clyne on the bench and played target a bit more but that backfired and and he got dropped because anyone who went to game could see he weakened the teams defence because he ain't quite there he is miles from chambers who les wanted to sell another reason less is a tosser. And jwp going to get a England call up after Euro under 21 that is by far a long shot on his current form just look who is ahead of him be real.

14.) 11 Jun 2015 04:45:57
When in the premier games last year did we field our youngsters. Oh yes we didn't apart from a couple of games target and reed played. mane, Tadic, pelle, schniederlin, Clyne, Bertrand, fonte, Toby, we're the performers that got us where we were not the youth.
Out of our youngsters reed and the young Scottish striker are the ones that have a chance.a few weeks ago everyone was on here naming quite a few they thought were good and most that were named just got released

15.) 11 Jun 2015 04:47:21
Earth saintsfan29
Wot didn't u know that is the planet we're on lol

16.) 11 Jun 2015 04:48:41
Anyone who try to say Hesketh is a first teamed has just got to be having a laugh

17.) 11 Jun 2015 04:49:54
Oh yeah and Southgate can't even take a penalty lol

18.) 11 Jun 2015 07:10:04
Well, that became suitably surreal for 4.00 in the morning on a Thursday. Thanks for that Southampton87. If you have any other thoughts, do let us all know.

19.) 11 Jun 2015 07:50:35
Haha, well I'll give you your due, it was not a nice attempt at arguing your point, but you seem to deliberately miss by all accounts the things Les Reed has done for the club too. Let's start with the best one, stealing about £49 million from Liverpool, £30 million from Manchester United and £16 million from Arsenal for players who were nowhere near ready for the big time, all of whom have ended up bench warming or been injured. What a phenomenal message that was to all the smaller clubs across the country, yes you can buy our players, but it'll cost you a premium. Secondly, he doesn't get much recognition for it, but he is one of the reasons we find ourselves in the Premier League in the first place. It wasn't Cortese that got us here, it was Les and the players he had a hand in bringing to the club. As well as the re-development of the academy.

Saints didn't want to sell Chambers, the offer came in and he asked to leave. He could have said no I'll stay and continue to develop but the pound signs lit up in the back of his head, just like they did with Shaw.

We don't have a one in one out transfer policy either, I don't know where on earth you got that idea from. The club have said all along since Cortese left that they wanted to be self-sustaining, and yes that limits us from offering the big wages and transfer fees, but it doesn't mean we are incapable of signing someone until Schneiderlin and Clyne leave. Particularly as its increasingly likely their situations won't be resolved any time soon. The club won't stand still!

20.) 11 Jun 2015 08:08:12
Oh dear, we've just come 7th in the premier league and spent most of the season in the top 4. I'm not saying out youngsters got us there, but I don't think it's fair to say they didn't help at all. And another thing, without Les Reed, a large majority of last season's success would not of happened. Don't know how some people come on here and call themselves Southampton fans, it's laughable

21.) 11 Jun 2015 13:16:56
Reed was good and has a future already said that and agreed but to say we played another of youngsters is a massive overstatement.
And the reason I sent in 4 in the morning is because I work nights and finish 6 in the morning but I guess fans that work daytime are only allowed to post in.

22.) 11 Jun 2015 13:21:00
Saintsfan29
Being a bench warmer for arsenal and Liverpool is understandable considering the talent they have all the way through the squad chambers was a lot better than anyone gives him credit for his delivery was excellent for an example. and ox and Walcott were and most of the time til late were bench warmers but none of them were bench warmers when they were here

23.) 11 Jun 2015 13:22:47
If we sell all are talent we won't move on no further than we have may as well give koeman a brick to hit himself in the face with.

24.) 11 Jun 2015 20:42:20
Who the bloody hell woke Southampton87 up!?!

25.) 12 Jun 2015 02:10:06
The press and motd and Hodgson sold our players last year les just help finish the deals of lol

26.) 12 Jun 2015 08:28:22
Reed has clearly been told to focus on doing the simple things and not to overcomplicate his game by trying outrageous through balls or elaborate passes, just win possession and keep play moving, which he does excellently for someone so young. He has excellent composure and reading of the game, I genuinely believe that whoever mentioned he could be a future England player was entirely correct.

As for the other youngsters, Targett hasn't embarrassed himself, but hasn't shone as brightly as he was once touted. I think he is a perfectly adequate backup to Bertrand and with a few games this season he could push on. Ward Prowse hasn't developed as much as most expected (injury didn't help), but all the same a reasonable squad player. I think this season will be a make or break for him. Gallagher looked to have decent movement off the ball but lacked composure in front of goal, but that comes with match practise and confidence, if used this season he could be a half decent player, a season long loan to the Championship could be a good move, especially seeing as Koeman doesn't seem particularly fond of him. Hesketh looked a bit lightweight when I have seen him, again maybe a season long loan to see how he fairs in the rough and tumble of the Championship may be an idea. We also have Turnbull and Stephens who spent last year at Swindon, who got valuable game time and could be handy squad players.

27.) 12 Jun 2015 13:32:32
It is surprising that some people forget the year on year improvement our club has made!?!
Just because we are now a viable team on Fifa doesn't mean we can produce Gareth Bales & Oxlade-Chamberlains every season!?!

28.) 13 Jun 2015 19:05:04
The way our board sell our talented youth u wouldn't think that u only get them every now and then.

29.) 14 Jun 2015 20:08:43
The fact southampton 87 couldn't even remember "the young Scottish striker"s name says it all about his apparent following of the club!

And Gallagher is actually English and playing for the English youth sides now. but never mind.

The Clyne fee is rising too 15 million on appearances they just love to throw money away anyone thinking that Clyne us better than soure's without seeing him play is delusional as Clyne was a very good player but the only reason Liverpool have paid out far too much money on him is souly because he is English and it helps fill the quota

Stuie76

{Ed001's Note - what quota? There is no 'quota', and Liverpool have lots of English players anyway, so what quota would they need help filling?}

1.) 02 Jul 2015 11:26:10
The spending too much on a defender quota?

2.) 02 Jul 2015 17:53:19
Could I just say two words Luke Shaw and I think that says it all . Unfortunately we have wasted our profits on idiots like Osvaldo .

3.) 02 Jul 2015 18:42:16
I don't know why you are slating clyne saying he's average. look at the stats. more chances created, more crosses, more tackles, more interceptions than any other RB last season. it is a loss and he was arguably the best RB in the league. Yes he faded towards the end but his quality is clear.

4.) 02 Jul 2015 21:54:44
Who said he was average?

5.) 02 Jul 2015 23:17:51
^ Wrong.
Amonst others, Trippier & Ivanovic created more chances. Janmaat had more assists, Clyne had 0. Janmaat & Zabeleta won more tackles. Janmaat had more interceptions and blocks. Clyne doesn't even make the top ten list of ariel duels won at right back

Clyne, decent player yes but let's not make him out to be the best in the league, shall we?

6.) 03 Jul 2015 05:25:25
He had an amazing start to the season and started to de-clyne towards the end. Doesn't mean he's average though.

7.) 03 Jul 2015 12:43:22
I thought Clyne was good for us. Only criticism would be that he used to give the ball away a lot but 9 times out of 10, he'd use his pace to win it back.

8.) 03 Jul 2015 23:18:52
Where are you getting your stats? Opta - most tackles, 1.Nathaniel Coyne 115.
2.zabaleta 106
3.janmat 103.

Chances created I was wrong but I was firing from memory.

9.) 03 Jul 2015 23:19:59
Sorry it was seen in other threads.

01 Jul 2015 11:07:42
John guidetti is going to sign for us this week after being released by man city he scored 15 goalso in 31 gmes for cel tic last season and 20 goals in 23 games for koeman in a previous loan spell at feyenoord looks a bargain on a free he's still only 23 with a total goal scoring record of 39 goals in 80 games celtic feyenoord Sunderland and west Brom amongst teams also interested

Stuie76

1.) 01 Jul 2015 11:30:50
He'd be a good squad player, although you've got to wonder why he was unable to break into the first team at Stoke or get the odd game at City. Could be he has a bad attitude, or isn't a hard grafter. Either way Koeman will know whether or not he'd be a worthy signing.

2.) 01 Jul 2015 13:14:59
Koemans managed him before, knows what the players like and would suit the football we play. supposedly we wanted him last summer but went for Pelle instead. Decent signing if we get him

3.) 01 Jul 2015 14:50:31
He looked 'up for it' attitude wise in last night's U21 Final. When we bought Juanmi, I thought that was our Guidetti signing but with more potential.

22 Jun 2015 22:12:07
absolutely buzzing about steklenberg joining on loan its pretty obvious that he won't drop bellow a certain leval and quite rightly so he's going to be rejuvinated playing under the guy who gave him his start in the game, what a sighning great stuff

Stuie76

1.) 23 Jun 2015 11:20:01
Could be the best signing we've made in a long time if he can find old form. Been a while since we've had a player who's played in a World Cup final in a saints shirt too

2.) 23 Jun 2015 11:57:07
What about when we had Pele?

3.) 23 Jun 2015 15:25:37
When have we ever had a player who has played in a world cup final in a saints shirt?

I can't think of any.

??

4.) 23 Jun 2015 16:39:38
Alan Ball?

5.) 23 Jun 2015 20:51:27
Eljero Elia

6.) 23 Jun 2015 22:21:36
Thanks to the Pub Quiz team for putting me in my place.

Now when did Southampton last win an FA Cup and who did they play??

Any answers?

7.) 24 Jun 2015 00:55:58
B. Shopping trolley.

8.) 25 Jun 2015 01:46:01
1976 V Man Utd. Bobby Stokes slid the ball past Alex Stepney for the only goal of the game. I was there that day and remember it well. Don't remember much of the following 48 hours though. Lol

09 Jun 2015 15:56:15
It makes me laugh all these saints fans assuming that we will defiantly qualify for the Europe league has any one seen the teams we might have to play borussia dortmund being one of them others include bordeax dynamo Moscow az alkmar vitess arnhem and standard liege there's a Spanish team I can't remember in there too

Stuie76

1.) 09 Jun 2015 16:49:42
Mate I wouldn't even bother I was saying the same type thing if we don't get things sorted with transfers we will be in qualifiers with a unsettled squad witch will make things even harder.but let's just see wot unfolds in the next 5-6 weeks after all every saints fan wants wot is best for our team

2.) 09 Jun 2015 17:35:04
We enter in the 3rd quali round though, so we've only got to beat one team to get into the group stages, we could get someone like POAK or Dortmund but you never know, we could get someone like Inverness or St Johnstone, it depends whether we're seeded or not, if we're seeded we'll be playing one of the 'easier' unseeded teams rather than the big clubs

3.) 09 Jun 2015 17:51:49
Wrong we go into 3rd round 2 legged tie then a 2 legged qualifying game where champions league drop outs are put in hat before the group stages

4.) 09 Jun 2015 18:27:03
Agreed it's not a guaranteed thing by any means and we definitely do need to get the appropriate players in, but pre-season is still a month or so away, so that gives Saints four weeks yet to make some pre-agreements, as players can't be officially registered until July 1st.

5.) 10 Jun 2015 17:48:18
You are all wrong!!
Do you not read these posts re the Europa league?
Who we will play is down to a seeding system whereby we will probably miss the other BIG clubs so to speak. And anyway if we were to play any one of them do you all think we are going to get beat??
What Friggin brilliant fantastic Saints fans you are.
Don't darken my mood again - idiots

6.) 11 Jun 2015 04:52:45
1x1 do u think we're seeded lol

7.) 11 Jun 2015 09:35:27
We are a seeded team.

As has prob been posted before, here's a link which better explains the process.

{Ed001's Note - the link never came through, not sure if you forgot to paste it in, or if it got caught by the spam filter. Just in case, remove the http:// bit if it is one there and that should see it get through the filter fine.}

8.) 11 Jun 2015 13:09:47
No last time we were asking if we were seeded we were referring to other Europe website that didn't even have us on the list and west ham we're. There anyway people wanna start calling people idiots like some computer warrior because they ain't deluded enough to think we are one of the best in Europe

9.) 11 Jun 2015 21:38:36
As above we may be seeded for 3rd round but depending what teams drop out of cl qualifying we may not for 4th round hence why people have said be could get drawn against a big team and may not make group stage

10.) 11 Jun 2015 22:32:08
Southampton87
Sorry bud but I am a true supporter and my glass is always half full not half empty as yours must be!
I have followed Saints in Europe a few times , have you?

I know it is probably hard for you but try being positive.

11.) 12 Jun 2015 00:57:27
I'll try 1x1

There's nothing stopping us bidding 30 million and paying it then taking them the legal route to get the majority of it back once he's our player, by the way even if we did spend 30 mill on him and didn't get any of it back it would still be worth ever penny he's as good as any defender in all four top European leagues

Stuie76

{Ed030's Note - I doubt Athleti's lawyers would be stupid enough to let that happen. Also I wouldn't go as far as saying he's on par with the best defenders in Europe, He's good but not that good. }
