Ed, do you know whether there's any interest from us in Iago Falque from Torino? Know he was with us briefly for a loan spell few years back. Has developed into a good little player with a good goals/ assists record. Feel like we need another first team quality winger/ cam. Cheers in advance.

{Ed002's Note - I don't know Tom. Certainl;y Leicester has an interest.}

I seriously hope we don't go for Shaqiri. Feel like it would be a waste of money. Great player on his day, but he's too injury prone and is too similar to Boufal and Redmond in that they aren't productive enough, or consistent.

Promes would be the best signing we could hope to make imo. Pacey winger with goals in his game that would help take the pressure off the strikers.

Sisto would be next best as we massively lack creativity going forward. Feel like he would bring the best out of Gabbiadini again as his movement is great, just needs the service!

Also not seen him linked with us, but I think Zouma would be a great singing if we could make it happen. Not sure if he'd come to us or see Chelsea letting him go permanently. He would give us some sorely needed pace, aggression and physicality at the back, giving Hoedt more protection so he can play the passes. We've also been poor from both defending and attacking set pieces. Reckon Zouma would greatly help us in that area.

A back up right back for Cedric is definitely needed. And the keeper situation is a difficult one for me. McCarthy our best player by a mile last season but can he keep that kind of form going? Forstser's not good enough for first choice.

Thoughts?

I have just heard that they are letting our Cedric backup, Jeremy Pied, leave when his contract runs out, which is soon. This is a bit of a shame as he has gone under the radar quite a bit and he actually performed really well for us.

I don't think Shaqiri is the answer to all of our problems. He's probably a Tadic 2.0. He's another technically gifted player, but I would question his work ethic. It's cool that the board have appointed Hudges but I don't want him to just buy players from a relegated side that he used to manage in a yard sale.
If I'm being honest I think we'll be in for another underwhelming season - I can't see any signs of appointing fresh players. We needed to try and get some business done before the world cup. At least Promes won't be going to the WC so it's someone we would look to sign. Sisto also has the same qualities as Promes and is younger. However, I think the experience of Promes will make him a better signing if we could pull it off. It is always risky bringing in a player from Russia. A player that I think could be a good swoop is Lallana. I don't think he'll be able to get into the Liverpool squad much longer.
I don't rate Zouma, he had a really bad season with Stoke. I think Jack Stephens is a brilliant young defender. Hoedt also looks good and Bednarek has the potential to be a quality player in a couple of seasons.
Think we should keep McCarthy and have Harry Lewis as a back-up. I think it's harsh to replace someone who had a great end to the season, especially if it was for Hart etc.
Gabbiadini has committed to Saints which is great news, he's a good player who has lost out to a lack of game time and poor rotation from MP.

Not sure why everyone is so anti shaqiri. He played 36 games scored 8 and assisted 7 in a team that only managed 35 goals. He is only 26 so personally I think he would be a good addition and in our price range. I would also happily take shawcross and zouma.

4.) 02 Jun 2018 11:07:08
Shaqiri? Undecided whether He would be a good signing, But think its wrong to say that he would be a poor signing just because he was part of a relegated team. The Premier League is so competitive these days, there is always going to be Decent players relegated.

Shaqiri is a very good footballer and is 1 step above any player we have in the creative side of the team. He’d most probably turn us down anyway but I can’t belive the arrogance some saints fans having saying he’s not good enough for us. No wonder we end up with 2nd string. We poorly criticise anyone with undoubted quality because of a bad attitude. (Most good players do something like this as they are frustrated at the lack of quality of some others) Christ you lot would moan about getting MLT because well he’s abit lazy for our side. Absolute joke.

I'm Undecided, because I havn't really seen enough of him, only at the last Euros, where he looked brilliant, but have read about his inconsistent performances, but that could be the team around him? But reading today, We have put a bid in!

What are peoples actual thoughts on what players we need to bring in this window?

Obviously 2 wingers, a striker, a centre half, an attacking midfielder and a right back for cover would be nice. But realistically for us, what's most important?

A first team quality winger is a must surely? Promes, Sisto, Elyounoussi are names that we've been somewhat linked to.

As we've lost Pied, a right back to cover Cedric is needed unless we plan to play Reed there.

And maybe if we're lucky a Centre half as well? I'd love us to try and go in for Zouma. Think he's had a really tough time with Chelsea and I think they could sell him as they're constantly linked with other defenders. Doubt he'd come to us but you never know, he is still young and could develop well with us. Would give us more presence at the back which I think is what we lack most. Mawson would be a good shout also but a lot of clubs in for him at the moment. Any other potential candidates?

I think we need 2 wingers if/ when tadic goes, I would love to see sisto in a SFC shirt and Sims get more chances but I don't rate shaqiri at all I think Davis needs replacing and a CB to lead the back line like fonte used to as we've never replaced his leadership qualities as for RB I personally would cover with the academy.

Reed will play right back I think otherwise they would if renewed pied. He is a great tackler he marked ya ya off the pitch a few seasons ago.

If we don't get at least one first team winger in we're seriously going to struggle. Boufals got to go surely considering how he acted end of last season. Redmond's had his chances but hasn't kicked on. Infuriating player to watch. Sims has promise but isn't ready just to be thrown into the first time imo. Hopeful for something like this team for next season. 75 mil for van dick. No reason to not get a couple of decent players in.

4231. Or 433, hojbjerg in for Tadic

McCarthy
Cedric - (pref new cb) - Hoedt - Bertrand
Lemina Romeu
(Promes) Tadic (Sisto)
Gabbiadini.

Quite a few columnists and fans are expecting MH to play 3 at the back in a form of a 3-4-1-2 for some reason so I'd go with
McCarthy
Bednarek (New CB) Hoedt
Cedric Lemina Romeu Bertrand
(New AM)
Gabbiadini Austin

FF will probably stay as I can't see any team interested in him. Yosh and Stephens will provide CB competition as Gardos leaves. JWP and Reed can cover both CM and RWB positions although Reed possibly leaving and with pied leaving that would save money on a new RB. I also think Redmond could have a role at RWB, he has the speed and work rate though. Bertrand and Targett to compete for the left side with McQueen's imminent departure to Bristol City, both could also play together with one of them covering the left sided CB spot ala Koeman's style a couple of seasons back. Hojbjerg to push lemina and romeu for places and can play AM as well. Tadic to compete with our new AM, Clasie and Boufal leaving, Davis will probably stay unless Rangers can suddenly pay his wages. Other than that, like FF, can't see him leaving. Long to depart, signing a backup forward and one of Gallagher and Carillo to leave.

Ins: New CB (Pref: Gibson), New AM (Pref: Maddison), new back up ST (Pref:? )

Outs: Definitely out: Gardos, McQueen, Pied, Clasie, Boufal, Long, one of Carillo or Gallagher. On the fence: Reed, Davis.

Just my opinion.

Looks as if Hughes is going to stick with the 5 at the back formation based on yesterday's game. Don't suppose you've got the latest on Vestergaard and/ or any potential attacking mids/ wingers Ed? This would be my lineup for the first game of the season if we get certain players and barring any injuries. Feel like RCB is the most contested position atm between Yoshida, Bednarek, Stephens and this Marlon guy if we get him. Be interested to hear people's thoughts.

Mccarthy
Yoshida (Vestergaard) Hoedt
Cedric Lemina Romeu Bertrand
Elyounoussi (New AM)
Gabbiadini.

Great signing if it actually happens. Always sceptical with transfer rumours for us. Hopefully a winger and CB are also on the agenda though as to me they seem much more of a priority. Also wonder what impact this will have on our academy players like Ward-Prowse and Hesketh if we do get Maddison? Are they just not good enough, or are we not willing to risk seeing if either of them can step up and cement themselves into the first team?
