Apparently had a bid rejected for Leeds United youngster Sam Byram. Would be a good replacement for Chambers, very promising young player.

Connor Wickham has rejected a three year contract extension at Sunderland with Southampton monitoring the situation. Think this would be a good signing. Showed great promise end of last season and I think its safe to say we need the the depth upfront. Always good to buy young English talent

Really unlucky tonight. Didn't deserve to go away with nothing. Fantastic effort from the lads and great to see Forster having a worldy of a game. Hope we see much more of this form. This is the sort of raw potential we bought him for. ChrisdownJ I hope this gives you a bit of comfort that there is a potentially fantastic keeper in him.

I must give credit where it is due and Forster played very well but wasn't that why we paid 10 million for him ? I wouldn't actually call it a worldy but it was an excellent performance by him and just hope it is not just a one off. What has happened to Tadic, he looked very ordinanary again last night. I got worried when Yoshida came on, he seemed panicked when needing to clear the ball and just don't think he is good enough at this level. Pelle was very good again with his hold up play and his lay offs were great, I just think he is a bit frustrated. It was a good performance but we just don't seem to have any fire power going forward, losing Toby was the game loser as he was outstanding along with Wanyama. I think it is going to be a reality check over the coming weeks and I just hope a good result against Sheffield United in the cup might get our confidence back and also make it 2 matches away from an automatic entry into Europe. We could lose the final and still qualify I believe if the winners qualify for the Champions League. Not sure on this so anybody know what happens on this topic ?

2.) No, the FA Cup runners up qualify for Europe if the winners have qualified through different means.

Unless it's changed this season and I missed it, the League Cup runners up just get their bus fare home - the reward of a European place goes back to the league if the winners don't need it: 6th place becomes a qualifying position.

Thanks Querty I am sure you're right but would have been nice wouldn't it. You have jogged my memory about the FA Cup when we lost to Arsenal we went into the Europa didn't we. Just seems a bit strange that it applies to one cup competition and not the other. Anyway thanks for the info and let's just hope we win it. It maybe that one of the teams we play in the semi ( if we get there ) might play a weakened side if they are still involved in the top four chase and still being in the Champions League. We could do with a change of fortune at the moment couldn't we ?

Maybe next time we spend £12m on a striker. It can be one who can put the ball into the back of an, all but, empty net. In all seriousness really good game. Wanyama was a tank, Bertrand was brilliant going forward linking up well with Tadic and Ward-Prowse dictated the second half. Would be nice to have a pacey winger on the right hand side to partner up with Clyne. Could still have a really strong competitive season.

Lovren reportedly planning on going on strike to force through a move away after being frustrated with two bids having been rejected for him. Not that I trust anything the Sun says. Please say this is just paper talk.

Doubt it is unfortunately been mentioned too many times. Genuinely feels a bit like waiting for the last one to turn out the lights doesn't it lol.

Before I get shot down for being doom and gloom I have faith but it would be nice for ANYTHING rather than a few bits of speculation

I completely get that, but why attack les Reed. Players heads are turned by bigger clubs offering more money that we can't compete with. If a player wants to leave there isn't a lot the club can do but get the best deal for them. Spending silly money on a player isn't necessarily the solution. Look at the likes of Gaston Ramirez and Dani Osvaldo. I, like many others, get very frustrated with the constant loss of player's. However so far the club has given us no reason to panic. I support the club fully and look forward to another good season. The moaning just gets really repetitive, and so far has been completely unjustified.

Year on year there seems to be the same negative attitude in a lot of fans unhappy about our transfer policy a and how the club is run even when we have consistently improved year on year ever since being in league 1. Gets very repetitive people slagging off les Reed, who realistically has done nothing but make huge profit of players who no longer want to be at the club, whilst spending fractions of that on players with more hunger who have taken the club forward. I feel this year is no different and that we've made some very intelligent signings. People also seem to forget that we have spent over 40 million developing the staplewood training ground to keep player development high and have extended many important players contracts. Southampton fc is run in such a way that no individual piece is bigger than the club itself. We are not in the same realm as teams in the top four/ six of the country and don't get the same turnout at games or global appeal. This is something that we are constantly improving, becoming one of the largest growing brands over the last 3 years. I am personally very happy with how well the club is run and where we are going. I can also understand people's concern and frustration with losing player's/ manager's/ staff year on year but this is football. Look at how far we have come the last 8 years. So why are so many quick to behead a man pretty influential in that. If you want to support a club spending ridiculous money on marquee player's I've heard of a few in the north west you could try. Otherwise please stop sulking.

I would love to see Hesketh coming though into the first team this season. Showed great promise last season with the under 21's and could really be a big part of SFC's future. Davis and Ward-Prowse are also able to play that position. Looks like we will be playing a diamond formation which worries me slightly, however our midfield looks extremely strong for next season.

I was really impressed with Savic after leaving City. Its no doubt he found it difficult at 20/ 21 in the premier league, and was more than a little bit shaky, Since then he has matured a lot, went on to improve massive amounts at Fiorentina and is a starter for Montenegro. I think Savic is in the same situation as Alderwireld was that he has to compete for a starting spot against Godin and Jaunfran and two exceptionally decent youngsters in Jesus and Gimenez. Wouldn't be surprise if he moved on and hence the rumours.

Lovren and Alderweirdeld were both pretty big signings. Lovren was one of the standout performers in ligue 1 when we bought him with caps for Croatia and Alderweireld was a massive signing. The season before many clubs had looked at him because of exceptional perfomrances in the eredivise with Ajax. He was also a Belgium regular, ok normally as right. I would be very concern trying anyone without international experience in that role. We are talking about defending at the highest level in the premier league. Just look at the vergard forren deal. 6 - 8 million pound signing that never had a first team game for us.

I personally think Ward-Prowse has been an influential part of our season. I think we really missed him when he was out and provides an extra control on passing into key areas of the Pitch providing dangerous balls into the box from set pieces.

chrisdownj i agree partly with you points about Forster. I think he still lacks a bit when it comes to decision making and that the goal was completely his responsibility. However I support the decision to get him. I personally don't think has had to much to do for us yet and so don't think he has really shown what he can do but I do feel more confident with him then Boruc. I thought Boruc was an amazing shot stopper but he did always used to scare me with his arrogance, always had a mistake in him. He was also getting on. We had to build for the future and i really don't think there were better available at the time then forster with his potential. Think he could become a class keeper and he has time on his side. I know for the cost he possibly should be there already, but that's the way its going. Nobody was going to sell to us cheap, Shane Long was a lot too but actually was a great signing and provides us with different options. let's just show forster a little faith. To only make one costly mistake at this stage is ok.

Qwertyell I'm sorry but i just really don't agree. The lad is 19 playing one of the most demanding positions in the PL. Granted he isn't the most physical player and tackling needs to improve however in 4 games he has almost 90% pass accuracy and 2 assists. He deliveries from corners all but always beat the first man and whips them into some really dangerous areas for players to attack the ball. He is deceptively strong at holding onto the ball and runs constantly. Yes this is his 3rd season in the prem but he hasn't been a regular starter and often played in positions which aren't exactly his best. He has a way to go but he is head and shoulders above anybody else his age atm in similar positions. People seem to forget he is still very young. I think he will develop into one of the finest cm in English football, so long as he gets the game time and stays fit.

All KL has done is given the club more stability. She didn't want to just keep investing money into the club and wanted it to become self sustaining. This summer she has put an effective board together and taken the entire decision making out of the hands of one man. This board have reinvested the money we got for overpriced players with in most part much better value players, Shane Long possibly being a bit of an exception however providing valuable prem experience work rate. We're now looking like a club with more depth then last season, and in a much healthier financial position which allows us to grow from years to come. This is a business and I think she has run it better then any other owner in the Prem. So if you'd rather her to sell and risk getting an owner like Vincent Tan then maybe you need to reevaluate the situation we're in.

Trying to figure out what game everyone watched. Forster couldn't do anything about the first goal, was placed right in the corner. Had he not come out to tighten the angle Stirling would have had an easier finish. The second was poor defending on from out midfield to allow Stirling of all players to get his head to the ball in the first place. Also Yoshida had a pretty solid game didn't really do a lot wrong defensively Clyne was our weakest allowing players to get round the back of him a few times, having said that he was our only threat coming from the right so can forgive him for that. Wanyama was deserving of MOTM as he was solid and could even pass a ball. I felt much more confident with Forster in net to Boruc. He is an absolute unit and looked to control his defenders well
