Hi Eds, this Fonte rumour is gathering momentum and very disturbing. Any intel on this from your side?
Also surely we wouldn't sell Charlie Austin to Everton? We have just signed him and he was supposed to be Pelle's replacement. Personally I think he should start as he hasn't been given a proper chance and he has already proved to be a goal machine in this division.
Any comments much appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - all I know of the Fonte move is that the club appreciate his efforts over the years and will allow him to go if he wants to make the move. He is not one of those immensely wealthy players who have made a fortune in the Prem, he came up with you from League 1, so they have made it clear they will understand if he wants to have a last big payday to set up his family for life. The question is whether he wants the move or not, that I do not know. It is a very personal decision.

As for Austin, he does have some issues which mean the club would consider an offer which made them a profit. It is not the plan to sell him this summer though. As you stated, he was bought to replace Pelle and selling him would leave the club needing a replacement.}

As always your comments are helpful Ed. If Jose goes good luck to him. Who can begrudge him a final big payday move. As far as Charlie is concerned it's unlikely. Koeman is worried if he is going to lose Lukaku. If it does happen we will have someone lined up. Keep the faith everyone. Second half display on Sat was much better. Am going Old Trafford on Friday and looking forward to 3 wins in a row there! Dusan will be a handful for them I think.

{Ed001's Note - thanks gb500.}

Thanks as always Ed001 . appreciate the feedback. May I ask what issues they have with Charlie? Banged in a few during pre-season .
I don't blame Jose for going . pretty sure he will make the move but he may find himself on the bench. Bailly is good and Smalling was one of Man Us few standouts last season.
IF we lose Jose then we will need at least 2 new CBs . Yoshida is not an adequate back up imo. Very shaky.

{Ed001's Note - he just has a few fitness issues, which cause the injury niggles he gets.

As for Fonte, he is twice the defender Smalling is, he would walk into their team alongside Bailly.}

Saints can not continue to sell there crown jewels, season after season both club captain fonte and Austin who has not been given a chance yet, must be retained, there's only so much the fans can take of this money taking with very little being put back for incoming transfers by the board.

Thanks again Ed.
Saint Marko I agree with you . this business model is not sustainable. Cannot sell our 4 best players from last season . the spine of the side and expect to get away with it again. Fonte, Wanyama, Mane and Pelle .
Added to that we should actually be strengthening with the Europa League coming up.
Would love to know where all the money is going .

This money grabbing by the club talk is just ridiculous it is not the club's fault . We have tried to tie our top players to long term contracts, what else can they do? If other clubs come along offering stupid money in wages to these players there is just no answer to this . The club are not trying to sell the players, the players are wanting to leave for the big bucks . The money being sloshed around in football is close on obscene and puts professionally run clubs like ours in a no win situation . We just can't compete with the mega money transfer deals where the agent gets as much as a top class player's transfer fee just a few years ago . Crazy and really very sad place we are in these days with what used to be called the beautiful game .

I feel the super contracts are in place to turn the 30 million pounds into 40 million plus next year. I hope fonte stays but as others have said if he did go I would wish him goodluck and watch him hopefully succeed . chazza is neither here nor there, we know what he was capable of doing in the premier league but he's not been that for us yet so no loss as far as I'm concerned. What I do worry about is the quality of depth of squad, some positions are looking bare on cover that is good enough. fortunately I'm not a scout because I don't have a clue who's good enough, available and willing. all I know is I'm checking the rumours and newsnow sites every hour hoping to 1, see fonte stating he is staying and 2, a few loan, permanent deals complete.

Guys, Eds, any thoughts on a possible move for Javier Hernandez? Goal scoring machine, has pace, already proven himself in the EPL, recently told the press he would consider a move away from Leverkusen.
28, so a good 5 years left in him.

austinpower

{Ed002's Note - He is a player who Southampton has shown no interest in so just a random name.}

1.) 05 Aug 2016 09:05:34
Thanks Ed, I recall we showed some interest in him last season . But I hear you no interest of late . just a thought or more like pipe dream.
He would be great for us and don't reckon he would cost more than 15mln.

2.) 05 Aug 2016 09:51:16
I agree, he was awesome in the bundesliga this season. Great signing.

3.) 05 Aug 2016 11:17:23
Yeah near enough 100% sure we were targeting him last season before he left for Bayer04?Would be exactly what we need imo in someone who can score guaranteed and shows massive intent from the club, could help the signing of contracts from people like Dusan on the way.

Agreed. We actually looked good but very light and disorientated up front. Let's wave in that Algerian striker with a presence up front. Defensive mid I think we are ok as I rate Harrisson Reed, but certainly will need a back up CD in case Fonte or Virgil get injured (please no! )
