Any managerial changes rumours, Eds? Silva? Tuchel? Can the board still back Pellegrino?

jarkko

{Ed002's Note - Certainly not Tuchel. I suspect Silva would be one consideration.}

1.) 02 Feb 2018 08:00:32
Time to call in Saddam Magath as fitness coach.

2.) 03 Feb 2018 20:12:00
Thanks, Eds! Nice win today, but still big questionmarks. Why Hojbjerg was benched? At least Lemina started.

WHat's the situation with Promes, Eds? Is Marco Silva replacing Pellegrino? Carillo rumours off?

jarkko

{Ed002's Note - (a) He needs persuading but Southampton are trying. (b) Perhaps. (c) Not that I am aware.}

1.) 23 Jan 2018 19:29:38
Thanks, Eds!

2.) 24 Jan 2018 12:36:56
Carrillo fee agreed of £19.1 mil. SSN. Not signed yet. It’s a start lads!

3.) 24 Jan 2018 15:13:52
Let’s hope so just hope we don’t play him as a lone striker, wouldn’t surprise me.

4.) 24 Jan 2018 15:17:45
Ah dammit, I don't really want Carillo. Hopefully he proves me wrong though!

5.) 24 Jan 2018 15:29:50
Let’s hope Quincy is not far behind. Would be amazing!

6.) 24 Jan 2018 16:36:58
This lad could be what we've been missing up front
Hopefully we will see him next Wednesday against Brighton.

7.) 24 Jan 2018 18:06:44
Could be ready for a bit part sat doesn’t say much for Gallagher though does it similar sort of player?

8.) 24 Jan 2018 20:45:03
Apparently we are expecting to have signed Promes by saturday.

9.) 24 Jan 2018 20:45:10
I’ve done a little digging on Guido Carrillo and he does look very promising. I was unsure before as his goal scoring record didn’t look great but now I’ve had a look its much more impressive.

Carrillo is pushing 6ft 3 and 13 ½ stone so is very good in the air. Whoscored.com say his strengths are aerial duels and headed attempts, he likes flicking the ball on to teammates and is dangerous from freekicks. He looks like a good Pelle replacement. The bonus is he’s only 26.

Goals-wise, he has scored 15 goals and has 4 assists from 75 appearances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League/ Europa League, but only 24 of those were starts and his average sub appearance time is under 20 minutes, so 15 goals from 24 starts is pretty impressive. This season alone he has scored 8 goals from 24 appearances, only 6 of which were starts. When you factor in the minutes he’s played, its only an average of 23 minutes per game so his goals per minute record is very impressive. Despite only playing a bit part at Monaco this season, he is having his best season their so let's hope the form stays with him and he can hit the ground running. All we need to do now is convince him to come…….

10.) 24 Jan 2018 22:32:50
thanks for the stats figo, great analysis
Let's hope (when/ if signs) he carries on that ratio.

11.) 25 Jan 2018 06:43:20
At least some one in! :) Really hope we can sign Promes as well. Quite sure Carillo's incoming means either Gabbiadini or Long will leave before the window shuts.

Carillo's stats are pretty impressive, have to admit. Hopefully he will fit nicely to PL. His aerial skills don't harm a bit!

But still, we would need number 10 player!

12.) 25 Jan 2018 08:57:39
The stats you've outlined Figo, seem a lot like Gabbiadini's stats when he first arrived. I'm not going to compare the two because they're 2 completely different footballers. But if he is what you say, he'll get into good goalscoring positions and beat players to the ball, he'll get goals.
If he follows how Lambert used to play, which was to peel round to the back post and attack the fullback, I'm sure he'll become a quality goalscorer for the club.

13.) 25 Jan 2018 12:29:28
I also think the signing of Carrilo signals that we won't probably be getting rid of MP anytime soon. Simple because they've worked together. It seems like a signing he wanted to make. I would imagine he's stated that he feels he needs a big striker and this guy would be perfect. The statement that he's costing 19.2m clearly shows that the club have a have faith in him.
What's everyone elses thoughts on this? I just think with the Silva rumours we're all just putting 2 and 2 together.

14.) 25 Jan 2018 14:33:27
If and still a big if we sign QP then definitely don’t think he is going anywhere.

15.) 25 Jan 2018 18:34:46
I’ve said before I don’t think MP is going anywhere. The board like him and RK said a couple of weeks ago the slate’s clean after the VVD saga spoiled the first half of the season. The board will keep him all season if they can. We have Brighton and West Brom coming up and a minimum of 4 points is required, preferably 6 so we have some points and confidence going into the Liverpool game. It’ll be an interesting couple of weeks as whilst we have Brighton and West Brom, the teams around us are either playing each other or up against top 8 opposition. If results do start to go in our favour, things may look much better in a few weeks time. If they don’t, perhaps the board may consider a managerial change with 10 games to go, but its hard to believe that someone new can come in, with a new coaching staff and pick the team up in the final 10 games. A number of the teams around us have harsher run ins than us so we may be crossing our fingers like the ‘good’ old days.

16.) 25 Jan 2018 20:08:25
Just say he doesn’t get the sack and we scrape through by the skin of our teeth and stay in the PL will it be thanks to MP. I will just ask you all how many of you really want him to be our manager next season? I may be wrong but I reckon about 75% don’t want him staying. We really shouldn’t be where we are so let’s not keep banging on about how we never replaced Pelle and Mane etc. CP was in the same situation last season and had the VVD disruption effecting him as well and we sacked him and finished 8th and a Cup Final as well. I am sorry guys I just don’t get any of this. We need to smell the coffee and get a manager in that can motivate what is in fact a group of talented players that are not playing to their true potential.

17.) 25 Jan 2018 20:17:35
First signing done and dusted. Welcome Guido Guido!

18.) 25 Jan 2018 20:51:44
I think more than 75% want him gone for sure! I think the board would like to make a decision on MP at the end of the season though, rather than get into the habit of midseason changes. We saw that with Puel last season, they gave him the full year, then took their time with the decision to sack him. Some people grumbled at that wait, and they had a point, but what I took away from it was that the board wasn't taking these decisions lightly. This makes me think MP will get the full season unless our league position gets so desperate that they start to really panic about us staying up.

All conjecture really, but this is the impression I get. Good to get Carillo in, Promes too and it's a pretty perfect window imo, even if we left it a bit late.

19.) 25 Jan 2018 22:43:11
No animosity here 123 honest but you posted that you didn’t want Carillo? I understand your point, it may work out but smacks a little about desperation to score goals and his CV is not impressive. I think we have players in our squad that can score goals. They unfortunately have been coached badly. I really hope Carillo does the business but he only will if we change our style of play to allow him to do so.

20.) 26 Jan 2018 07:34:36
I did post that I didn't really want him, he's here now though so no point crying over it. I thought he seemed a bit pricey, but he should still help and hopefully I was wrong about him.

Any INs news, Eds? After last night's misery we definitely need at least three new players. Theo, Giroud, Sturridge, Plea?

jarkko

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in Walcott.}

1.) 03 Jan 2018 15:23:21
Fing sign him then stop mincing around he either wants to come or he doesn’t however loan only in our position how many players would we lose if we go down 6 years hard work gone for a fraction of their worth.

2.) 04 Jan 2018 14:55:00
Just read that Everton are willing to let Kevin Mirallas go. I've always been a fan - Pacey and can add some much needed creativity.

23 Aug 2016 13:08:11
Fonte as good as gone then. : ( JRod and Clasie likely to leave as well. Any news in INs, Eds? Stanciu, Slimani, Boufal, Haller etc. Some transfer boost now!

jarkko

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new this morning.}

1.) 23 Aug 2016 15:37:42
someone needs to take their afternoon happy pill.

2.) 23 Aug 2016 18:12:16
Now I have heard that Fonte isn't going. Or looking less likely now than last week. Apparently UTD are looking at other areas to strengthen and they are required to offload before any new players come in. Apparently Jose mourinho wants to strengthen elsewhere as a priority. I'm beginning to wonder if all this Fonte talk was in fact to unsettle the player before the fixture.

3.) 23 Aug 2016 18:16:59
Just seen nicolae stanicu on you tube
Now I know the deal on YouTube but this guy actually looks to be a really good signing if he comes here
Seems to be an aggressive midfielder with a bit of pace and skill to go with it
Good signing for us if it happens.

4.) 24 Aug 2016 01:48:14
Quick question to the Eds. does Stanciu playing for Bucharest in the European play off games against City affect any future transfer (should it happen) to Saints? . will he be cup-tied from European games?

{Ed002's Note - No, it doesn't cup tie him.}

5.) 24 Aug 2016 17:38:39
Good stuff. Cheers Ed!

6.) 26 Aug 2016 05:15:17
It seems that betting odds were wrong this time, as Fonte agreed new 2 year with Southampton! Great news! :)

29 Jul 2016 19:04:00
Several sites claim that Saints are interested in signing Bastian Schweinsteiger. Any truth in this, Eds?

jarkko

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of, no.}

1.) 29 Jul 2016 19:57:35
With Europe coming this season, I would be more than Happy with BS, It would be great to have someone with his experience on a Big European night and as someone for our youngstes to learn from fullstop.

2.) 29 Jul 2016 20:05:00
Thanks, Eds! Agree. I think we could do a lot worse than signing BS for a year or two.

3.) 29 Jul 2016 20:46:00
You guys must be smoking some weird stuff! Why would we sign an overpaid has been, that's going to be injured half the time. He was poor at Man U last season and didn't exactly shine in the Euros.

4.) 29 Jul 2016 21:58:41
I'd rather have Morgan back to be honest.

5.) 29 Jul 2016 22:40:16
Funniest player link this year
More of the same please I need a laugh.

6.) 30 Jul 2016 09:41:30
I absolutely agree. Bastian would cost a fortune in wages and would barely play! When he did play he wouldn't put in a shift. He will go to the states for an easy life or back to Germany. I'd take Spider-Man back but I fear he would probably cost as much as we sold him for and he would be looking for a hefty pay increase on what he was originally on. Stay away from any of the Utd players. Also, let's be honest, if they aren't good enough to get in the current Utd side they aren't worth a transfer fee and big wages from us.

7.) 30 Jul 2016 10:34:07
Just like to say, I am not been argumentative, just have a different opinion. I wouldn't either consider bringing Spider back for the same reason you wouldn't bring BS to Saints. He had a poor season.
Don't shoot me down. If not BS, I just feel we lack Top Level experience for Big European nights. and whatever the saying may say. in football, 'You can buy experience' which can be invaluable.

8.) 31 Jul 2016 12:05:41
Mmmmmm. I see what your saying, but we have Fonte and Soares who have just won the euros. I know it's not the same competition, but I think we have experience in big games. Yes we could do with a bit more, but experience costs money and doesn't guarantee success. The only member of the squad that needs some experience in these competitions is the coach.

Pied transfer collapses. Any idea, Ed's, whose next right back in line? Is Barcelona still interested in signing Cedric?

jarkko

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what these words mean. Sorry.}

Russian league very different from PL. Usually the giants want to make sure player can perform in the top league, before buying. You think it was a bad move for Mane as well to come to Southampton? And don't forget Russia is Rusdia for living.

I think for Promes it would be a smart move. UK is totally different country than Russia. Secondly, in Soton giants may notice you. Of course, he will be with us only for 18 or 30 months, but we have to accept that fact.

jarkko

{Ed002's Note - So you think he should agree to 2 and a lf years in the widerness to be noticed by "giants"? A move to Southampton would make zero sense for him.}
