does anyone think that all is not well behind the scenes at Southampton. Am I the only one who thinks Les Reed does not inspire confidence I don't know the man but he didn't strike me as the shrewd confident operator that Cortese is. I am far from sure that Reed is the man to be dealing with top drawer international transfers, what languages does he speak other than english. Cortese makes him look bad i'm afraid. Would Reed have pulled off the Ramirez or Osvaldo signings, or even Lovren? No i'm sorry but I can't see it. It is no accident I think that the hottest rumours to date have all been about players from english clubs. I suspect Reed feels a lot more comfortable dealing at that level, in other words if anyone thinks we are going to get Rafa Silva or William Carvalho they can forget it. Unless of course they give the job of approaching foreign clubs to Pochettino which would make a lot of sense. I don't know what Reeds background is perhaps someone can enlighten me, he just doesn't seem to be the right kind of guy for the job of player recruitment. I just hope his brief is not to sell our best players, he didn't strike me to be anything more than someones yes man. We will soon find out, but don't hold your breath.

1.) Hi Montecristosaint. Les Reed isn't a replacement for Cortese. Les was brought in by Cortese shortly after Liebher bought the club. Les set out the philosophy behind the playing style and that of the academy.
Try doing some digging for info on the man. He knows his stuff! He was previously employed by the FA.

I find it frustrating that people offer their opinions about someone (Les Reed for example) and yet they speak from a position of total ignorance, based on their impression of the chap.

why not do an internet search for the following 'five minutes your time please Les Reed'

I expect that the person doing any deals will be Kruger, and not Reed. It is after all Kruger that has replaced Cortese, and not Reed!

2.) I would like to agree with you but the facts do nothing to support your view. Les Reed is on record today, not Krueger, as saying he will now sit down with Pochettino to discuss extending his contract. He added that no deals were being done for either Shaw or Lallana but crucially would not rule either from happening. He just doesn't inspire confidence. As far as I can remember Reed was originally brought in in an academy related role, now we find him chairing Saints transfer policy. I don't think he is the man for the job not by a long chalk.

If I were Saints I would be bringing in Rafa Silva has bags of skill only 20 and can play out wide.
But he will cost 20 million euros, doubt that tight fisted KL will be prepared to sanction that one.

For the love of god would you fans please take in the following: Building projects are governed by CONTRACTS which have clauses in them guaranteeing price, stage payments and penalties for late delivery.Stop trying to maintain that the ground was over budget, that somehow Cortese allowed the project price to nearly double ITS ALL A LOAD OF BULL.

Sporting Lisbon are asking 20 million euros for Rojo, Saints have enquired at 15m way short, no chance at that rate

Reed sold three key players without first signing replacements which frankly is stupid.First because it will push up the asking price of every player we go after in the transfer market, and secondly he capitulated to Lallana, set a precedent so every player wanting to leave is doing so by throwing toys out of his pram. Reed is naive , not a businessman, not qualified to deal with large business transactions, hence the lack of results so far. He may yet secure Tadic, and really needs to, as Everton are sniffing, this deal should have been wrapped up ages ago. Which makes me nervous apart from annoyed.

that, southampton 87 is bull. Koeman did not want people to leave but the deals had already been done. I don't condone what Krueger and Reed did they took one hell of a chance but it may yet pay off. No other club has ever taken such a risk in this country although it is regularly doen on the continent. I hope it works out. but don't want to see a repeat!!!

lets be clear about one thing wit hregard to this debate. The club have made much of the fact that the acadey in which so much money has been invested is there to produce players for the first team. It is not there for the powers that be to swoop and sell off our best to the opposition, which is precisely what has happened this summer. I just hope that no precedent has now been established and that we won't have to face the same scenario next summer. We might be lucky this year with all the signings working out. But we might not be so lucky next time, and I still think it is extremely risky to sell off your best players and hope you can replace them for less. The orther point worth making is that from a brand perspective Saints have suddenly come to the world s attention based upon what the team did last season largely through the efforts of home grown players. It is let's face it unusual for this to happen the only comparative example being the famed class of 92 at Manchester United.Selling Shaw was really disappointing, and the sale of Chambers only added to the distress. From a branding point of view its not good business. Disagree all you like, we may do well this year, but something has been lost from the Saints image, we are now seen as much the same as other clubs buying in foreign talent, which is a huge shame.

if that were true yes, but can you seriously say we bought better than Shaw, Chambers and Lovren? I think not

still not happy that we had Shaw Chambers and llalana wrenched from us. How come we can't hold on to our home grown players? And a word of warning. what is there to say that the Board won't subject us to a repeat performance next summer and sell our best players yet again.
