good news Saints fans, Boca Junior's president has come out that he is confident of signing Osvaldo on loan with a view to buy. Osvaldo has stated that his dream is to play for Boca Juniors, so if all goes well, and he actually behaves for once, we could finally get rid of him! What does everyone make of this?

saintsfan25

1.) 07 Feb 2015 12:35:46
i think we should not allow any loan deals. Even if it's for 6 mil i'd be happy with getting rid of him for good

2.) 07 Feb 2015 12:55:22
Osvaldo has got wot he wonts again
And he will run down his contract at these teams then go for free or next to nothing.
Great

3.) 08 Feb 2015 18:19:08
Best to forget about Osvaldo asap - could have been a good buy but unfortunately his bad side/temperant was his demise. Pelle has been an excellent replacement and even though his goals have dried up his hold up play and lay offs has been a great addition. It really doesn't matter who scores but the result that counts. West Ham will be a really hard game Wednesday but I think we will shade it. COYR's

4.) 08 Feb 2015 19:42:29
If JRod comes back soon maybe in the next 3 to 4 weeks he could be the end of season difference we will definitely need to score those elusive goals. He will need a couple of games to tune up but can you see it now - Man City last game of the season with them having already made the CL spot and we have to win to join them ? One minute to go and Martin Tyler shouting Rodriguezzzzzzz !!!!!!! Surely with the season we have had so far this is more than a dream. I think we will beat West Ham on Wednesday, most of their midfield and defensive players looked dead on their feet at the end of the game this afternoon. They are a good side though but so are we.

5.) 10 Feb 2015 20:54:23
Our team defend from the front and are one of the best who work hard for one and other. Teamwork at its best. Lack of goals at the moment but will force West Ham high up the pitch and could be another tight 1-0 win. Who would have thought at the start of the season that a "little old South Coast team" would dare to challenge the big boys. What a result would be if we actually finished in the top 4 - un (bloody) believable! COYR's

Eljero Elia will imminently be joining Southampton on loan with an option to buy. I think this is a great signing which will give us some more depth to our squad, but what do you guys think?

saintsfan25

1.) If it's a loan, I think it's a fantastic deal! No one is disputing this lads ability, so potentially this is a win win situation.

2.) 23 Dec 2014 19:11:25
Haven't seen the interview, but apparently koeman has confirmed that Elia will be coming on loan. Seems like a shrewd move, especially if we have an option to buy.
There is also a lot of noise about us getting Bertrand permanently, which may make Sarah on loan a possibility, if the Elia deal fails to come through

3.) Trust in our manager as he will bring in players that will suit our style of play. Mane has his mind on the African Cup but will return with a lot to prove if his position is under threat - good competition will bring out the best in any player. Still maintain we need a proven striker to challenge Pelle and Long.

21 Dec 2014 12:54:42
According to many reports, even reliable dutch reports, we are at an advanced stage of the signing of Eljero Elia for a fee of €4 million. We have agreed the fee and we are hoping that we can have him signed on Jan 1st. What do you guys make of this?

saintsfan25

1.) 21 Dec 2014 15:06:43
Seems to have had his problems with the law and fans but Ron obviously thinks it's worth a punt. I couldn't see whether his prefered wing is left or right. It would mean that Tadjic could be rested and we don't know when Rod will be back. I'm all for strengthening the squad and we do have the African cup approaching.

2.) 22 Dec 2014 09:51:45
What I make of this is that it is all media made up rubbish. The media look at players that might suit us and speculate that we will obviously be in for them. I think we all know from previous situations that SFC do not disclose any interest in players to the press and usually most of our signings are complete surprises, the only exception to this was Forster. I wouldn't be surprised if we signed somebody in January but if we did it would have to be a player that Koeman wants and not just to make up the numbers squad wise. We are already seeing that some of our academy players can step up ( as in Harrison Reed etc. ) so why would be pay money for average untried players when we have guys like Ryan Seager knocking on the door. If there is somebody special out there that we can afford and wants to come to us I am sure it will happen in January, if not he will wait until the summer. I think we might get rid of a couple in January as in Mayuka, Boruc, Ramirez and hopefully Osvaldo. It will be interesting though.

3.) There is something in this. some people are claiming its already agreed. my concern is "the dutch ballotelli" aspect. can we afford another osvaldo in the squad? with regards to Seager, Gallagher is way ahead of him and should be back shortly from what I gather.

4.) 22 Dec 2014 13:49:24
Never actually seen Sam Gallagher as being the answer, at least not yet for sure. Seager is creative as well as potentially a more complete all rounder as a team player, I agree he is not there quite yet but he has good qualities and will be given his chance soon along with McQueen.

5.) 22 Dec 2014 14:50:44
£4 milliom is worth a gamble. its not a lot in todays market. well worth signing .

6.) 22 Dec 2014 18:22:03
Mane=Africas Cup=need for cover=winger.

Simples.

7.) 23 Dec 2014 11:20:31
Did we miss him against Everton ? Not in the slightest in my opinion, seems to me he loses the ball a lot when we are in strong positions on the field. By doing that he has quite often turned a promising attack by us into some desperate defending from our back line after giving the ball away.

If we play 5:3:2 Mane (or another pacey winger) may not figure. But 4:3:3 it could be different. RoKo wants the option to play either formation so Elia/Mane looks pretty sensible.
Bringing in Elia could be great for Mane as it could allow him to take a little more time to acclimatise to the EPL, and work on his game between matches, or in the under 21s.

22 Nov 2014 23:41:00
According to reports, we are after the highly rated Slovenian, Kevin Kampl, for a bargain £5 million. I personally would love to have him at Southampton. We apparently watched him last week and were very impressed. We are likely to go for him in January. If true, what do you guys make of this?

saintsfan25

1.) From what I've seen of him, he is a must buy! Former team mate of Sadio Mane, and while rumoured to be available for £5m, I'd be surprised if he went that cheaply.

2.) 24 Nov 2014 14:33:28
looked good against england

3.) 24 Nov 2014 22:42:08
I really think we should just wait till January this is all just media speculation. We have it all the time and normally they are completely wrong.

20 Nov 2014 11:00:35
According to reports, Koeman is very interested in signing John Guidetti (who is currently on loan at Celtic) as he has previously worked with him at Feyenoord. With his contract up in the summer, Man City want just £5 million and Southampton are willing to match that asking price. Would you like this to happen if true? What do you guys make of this?

saintsfan25

1.) Heard this rumour in the summer.

2.) Why would saints pay £5mil for someone who we could get for free in 6 months.
Why would City ask for that much anyway.
Why would we sign a player that has done nothing in the prem and little in Scotland.
It's just the same false rumours again and again every window. Let's just wait and see, nearly all the transfers over he summer where out of the blue, and the media had non idea until they where already in the door.

{Ed001's Note - little in Scotland? He has been carrying Celtic by the way their fans talk on the Celtic page. The lad has huge potential and is extremely highly rated in Holland from his time at Feyenoord. Plus the £5m is the price Man City have named.}

3.) ^ i agree with the why pay £5 mil when we could get him for free in the summer but he's more than worth that much. He's been on fire for Celtic this season and was great for feyenoord when he was there. Could become properly good under Koeman

Can't imagine how good we'd be if we sign Bertrand and Alderweireld permanently and the rumours of Martins Indi, Dybala, Huntelaar and Guidetti come off

4.) He is a great player with bags of potential, that's why the price of 5million is being talked about. Also often it won't be as much as that, as this is a rumoured price city have slapped on his head. The reason we would be interested in paying 5 for him is also that it rules other clubs out of talking to him while we negotiate with him too. Remember he is a striker aswell which always bumps his TF fee up. Good bit of business as I think he is worth far far more than 5 million. Plus consider that if he is as good as the others we have signed he could actually be the difference between us getting CL football which is worth millions to us. RVP went to Man Utd for some ridiculous fee close to the end of his contract and worked out to be a phenomenal bit of business for utd

5.) Player doing well at Celtic and scoring goals -5m would be a great investment for saints and Koeman knows him well enough to show interest - a great addition to a very good squad

6.) We would have to pay instead of the free because it's not just us that want him! We need to get him quick before someone else gets their hands on him

{Ed002's Note - I suspect a deal will be struck with Marseille - perhaps Celtic if that doesn't happen.}

From a reliable source, we are going to make 3 signings in January, with one of the signings going to 'blow the fans away'. The player who would 'blow the fans away' is apparently Klass-Jan Huntelaar. Unfortunately, on the other hand, it looks more and more likely we are going to lose Rodriguez, with Spurs and Man City very interested in him. What do you guys make of all of this if true?

saintsfan25

1.) I'd let J-Rod go if we get the quoted 20 million for him.

He won't have played nor even trained for 9 months by the time he goes/returns for us.

He may not even fully recover and will undoubtedly lose some of the pace that set him apart.

Plus, if you take a look at NFL players who've had similar injuries they almost always have another serious knee injury that takes them out for a season

20 million would be a huge deal for him and we could use that money to get Dybala AND Huntelaar on top of Bertrand and Alderweireld

2.) Huntelaar didn't do to well last time he was in the prem

3.) I'd trust Koeman. Can't be any worse than Osvaldo and it's gone really quiet at the Club on JRod. JWP has pictures and updates posted all the time. JRod has either had a relapse in his recovery or he's told the Club that he's not signing a new contract. I suspect the latter but am surprised, I'd think after injury, you'd sign the new deal, take the salary increase and see what happens.

4.) 16 Nov 2014 19:33:30
I think JRod is probably doing the sensible thing and keeping his mouth shut whether a contract has been offered to him or not. I would imagine Ronald Koeman probably asked him to keep his mouth shut about any current negotiations with what has been going on with Morgan. I wouldn't sell him, many players come back from cruciate injuries, alright it'll take a bit of time for him to settle back in but one thing I personally know is that he is fit. He will be chomping at the bit and I think he'll be back within a fortnight and will probably be available for the Sheffield cup tie. He may even be on the bench for the Utd game. He is still young and worth more to us than taking risks with untried foreign players in the PL. It is not about money with Saints anymore because we don't need to sell our players to improve our squad unlike some other teams, we are financially ok which is a great positive situation for the future.

25 Aug 2014 11:59:41
After our £12 million bid for Andros Townsend was rejected, we have bid £8 million for Nathan Redmond.

saintsfan25

1.) Drop Townsend. too injury prone

2.) 25 Aug 2014 14:06:13
any bids for any spuds player will be rejected until we let schneiderlin go

30 Jul 2014 14:37:50
Osvaldo is going to Inter on loan with a view of a permanent deal and in exchange, we get Saphir Taider on loan, also with a view of a permanent deal. I think this is quite good business. What do you guys think?

saintsfan25

1.) No-one will pay money to take Osvaldo in a permanent deal. He'll be farmed out on loan for the duration of his contract and leave on a free.

Saints might save a bit of money on his wages, but they won't get a penny of his transfer fee back.

A truly terrible signing.

As for Taider, I'm not sure Saints need another central midfielder. They've already got 6 players for 3 positions (Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Cork, Davis, Ward-Prowse and Reed), so I can only assume if they bring him in, someone else is leaving. And it wouldn't really be satisfactory, IMO, to replace them with a loan, when the club has raked in around £100m in transfer fees.

As a replacement for Scheiderlin, I don't think he's appropriate, quality-wise. Perhaps Cork's off?

2.) I'd rather take Honda than the other player

3.) Les Reed has said Cork can go for £5m, he's not part of RK's plans. Swansea are first club to agree to the fee.

27 Jul 2014 09:06:44
According to a newspaper, we are after Roberto Firmino of Hoffenhiem. This would be an incredible signing; this guy is so talented with so much potential. Also, another paper said that Ronald Koeman is going to go on a £50 million spending spree. Maybe things don't look so bad now. What do you guys think anout both of these bots of news?

saintsfan25

1.) Saintsfan25,

hope this true, I am at the stage now that news of changing to different toilet paper would make me happy!

COYS

10 Jul 2014 07:55:04
The newspapers are linking us with an £8 million move for Fraser Forster of Celtic. I rate the goalkeeper very highly so I would love this signing to happen. What do you guys think?

saintsfan25

1.) Would be a great signing in my opinion. I would imagine Celtic would want higher than £8mil though.

2.) I'd like to see us go for Navas the Costa Rica keeper, I'm sure he has plenty of suitors but all those listed so far want him for back up to well established keepers at top clubs. Whereas he'd probably become first choice here.

3.) 10 Jul 2014 15:10:32
I still think we ought to be concentrating on sorting out the CB problem before going hell for leather to sign a keeper. I'm sure you know that I think as far as keepers go David Marshall would be the best choice if the money was right. Think Boruc might throw one if he is not No. 1 and he'd be off as well.

Now I might be wrong, but I thought that you can't have 2 loaned players from the same club. If we were to get Salah on loan, then wouldn't we have to cancel the bertrand loan. This clearly doesn't make much sense.

To saint_ben_basingstoke, Schelotto was seen as a hot prospect in Italy, but like Taider (the other guy we're getting on loan) they made the move to Inter too early in their careers. Schelotto went on loan to Parma and according to Parma fans, he was very good. Hopefully we get the Parma version of Schelotto and he is a fast winger so he gives us depth in a position we lack.

Well that is very wishful thinking, but if this somehow miraculously happened, I would buy more defensive cover; a backup RB to clyne, and another CB for cover who is better than Yoshida. I would buy a cover striker, and as you said, a top quality CAM. Hopefully we could fill the gaps with some of our academy players. As you said though, very wishful thinking.
