Back for a month from New Zealand. Have been utterly amazed at the demise of our beloved Saints. What on earth has happened and more seriously why was it allowed to happened. Who ever the new manager is coming in - for the sake of our club get behind him and the players. 8 matches to go and everybody has to raise the roof and show the compassion that everybody is demanding of the players. Stop the moaning and groaning at any stray passes and encourage the players. From the first minute to the last make the noise, show the players you are behind them . You are the 12 th man. I pray we get out of this mess. I predict we will survive ( only just) and get to the f. a. cup final. Yes I will take the abuse if Wigan knock us out but hey it’s better to be positive then negative, Will be back if we do get to the final with my partner. Have faith. Believe. COYR’s.

All those who bemoan our team this season, just be grateful we're not Newcastle. They're in freefall.
True we need to strengthen, if Spider, Toby and Clyne all go then we're severely short in midfield. personally I would like to find a midfielder who can score from distance. They're all out there, take a look at those who are going down, and those who just miss out in going up. QPR - they've got Fer who is worth a punt, and Austin who will score for anyone. Derby were the strongest team in champs Bryson is worth a shout and Russell also. Tiote from Newcastle would be a good solid replacement. Personally I think that Jrod and Gallagher (and Austin.?) will be enough up front next season to challenge Pelle. When Tadic is on form he is still one of our best creative players and Mane can be dangerous. Yoshida needs to calm down but we could do with another CB with some pace. i'm sure ROKO has his eyes on the positions needed.
all in all Europe or not we're in a good position to go again next year. COYR

Glyfi sigurdsson is imo the perfect replacement for morgan not as good defensively but much better attacking

Sigurdsson is one of the best players outside the top four clubs - Spurs were crazy to let him go, considering some of the rubbish they've kept on.
But he's a weird shout to replace Schneiderlin as he doesn't even play close to the same position or role. He's an advanced number 10 or occasional wide attacker.
I think I saw Swansea try him once in a deeper role, against Chelsea earlier in the season. They were 4-0 down by half time!
He'd be an excellent signing, as clearly Davis and Ward-Prowse offer nothing in an advanced role, but not as a replacement for their star defensive midfielder.

Reed looks a decent prospect, but he's no replacement for Schneiderlin. Maybe in three or four seasons. But Saints can't replace a £30 million midfielder with someone from the U21s. Not if they're serious about continuing to progress.
If Koeman thought Reed was anywhere near the required level, he wouldn't keep playing Alderweireld out of position in midfield instead.

Here's my take on the transfers: -
AL struggled in his 1st season in the prem - had an ok second season but goes missing in some games. £25 mil thank you very much
LS - £30 mil for an untried albeit exciting full back - thank you very much overpriced.
DL - 1 season in the prem 13 mil profit - a bit like selling maya for £10 mil - got to take it.
SRL - good luck to him - I don't think anyone saw that coming.
CC - is that right £16 mil for a reserve? take it every day.
we can't put a price on a prospect. we have a genuine conveyor belt of talent from the academy. keep the investment there and prop the first team with some experience. Build the team around those who want to play for us. we are always going to get our best players poached from under us. accept it.
Back in April I posted that we'd sell most of those that we have. I think that the board have done a very good job in getting the best prices for players who wanted to further their careers. don't blame the players, don't blame the board blame the following: -

The EPL and the FA jointly - promoting all the profit goes to the top few and nothing gets filtered back.
on a good note - I am very excited about the new season - Tadic is going to be star, he may very well only give us a season or two and move on but let's hope this it's a good one. we have got to get off to a good start as out of the first 10 games there are easily 8 we should be trying to win. Good riddance to AL, go and warm the bench at Liverpool. can't see you getting a regular place. Same with Shaw and ManU, although £30mil was a good price. I have it on good authority that Dusan Tadic was the best player in the Dutch league last season and Pelle has been scoring for fun. both these 2 would be better that AL and SLR. I agree with all the posts that we should build the team around Spider and make him captain and a massive pay increase. I don't think we'll keep Lovren but I hope so. we do still need a replacement CB - over to RoKo.
1.) I hope the plan to make spider captain comes to fruition. Gutted about SRL but not so much shaw and lallana - that was excellent business. Although ultimately spider is capable of CL football but at least he hasn't made a thing of it internally.

to add to the youth posts.
surely natural progression will mean that eventually youngsters will begin to realise that by joining the so called bigger clubs they will not get the opportunity to play first team football unless they are loaned out or wait until they are 22-23 there will obviously be exceptions but there are more players under 23 just sat not playing at these clubs. look at Rodwell as an example. fringes of the England squad, world cup around the corner, big move to man city but doesn't get a look in. frozen out of the England squad and can't really move on because his wages are too high, what a wasted opportunity and he's one of several. we can all name loads of players who made a big move as a young player and failed, but how many other teenagers have actually done it? Rooney and um. most of the teenagers playing in the premiership have come through the youth ranks of their respective teams.
if I was a young player being 'touted' by the big four I would certainly think twice as there are limited opportunities, better to move to a smaller club where the chances of playing are greater and then progress naturally. I don't think that the B team principal would work, restricting players in the actual team might work but it would also increase the value of top quality English players so they would all play for the biggest clubs. IMO natural progression of players making their name at so called smaller clubs will be the way forward. they would invest in youth because they cannot complete with the biggest.

Absolutely true. IMO, get rid of the players who don't contribute. Bertrand has gone through the motions this season, can't even take a throw in. get rid. Vestergaard, if Spuds want to pay £30m get shot, can't turn, loses his man in the box. no pace. we should have played fringe players against WBA, Tella, Salisu, they're the future. Leicester came with a game plan, 3 big defenders against Ings. we were never going to beat them in the air but kept playing high balls. we made Evans look like a world beater. we won't keep Ings and Ralph will go too.

The problem is that the top 6 teams in England provide for 90% of the England squad. qualification football is all about grinding out a result a bit like premiership football so it stands to reason that these players have the experience.
however, when it comes to tournament football it's a totally different game. we need players who can defend for long periods without the ball. unfortunately that is something the top 6 teams don't do. so why persist in picking players who can only perform when they have 70% possession. players who can score with 1 touch, 1 chance. that's why Defoe is so good internationally. we need players who can score out of nothing.

I agree that keeping RoKo is important, but how can we persuade the likes of Vic, Mane and Pelle to stay at the club when the manager won't commit. I say get rid of Vic 1 good game in 3 always liable to get booked or sent off. Cash in for 30 mil. There are better options, Clasie has had a good season and really need to keep Tadic VVD Bertrand Long Forster as the spine of the team. Defo need another CB Fonte can't go on forever also a RB Martina and Cedric aren't the best in the PL not even close. Three at the back works well against teams that will come onto us. Yosh is good over but not a RB in a 3. need to bring youth back into the fold somehow. we need to keep the likes of Romeu and JWP who are valuable too. I say strengthen central midfield and CB are we're good for another challenge for Europe.

don't be too thrilled, I have it good authority that he is a big time Charlie, thinks he's better than everyone else. not as good as Tadic . we could always sell him to Liverpool for 30 mil .
