Ryan Bertrand to play tonight. Clasie not yet ready but he's back in training so hopefully not too long before he's back

1.) 23 Sep 2015 18:55:17
Gaston on the bench?!

10 Sep 2015 16:55:15
Ryan Bertrand hopes to be back training on Monday. Clasie not for a while yet.

1.) 11 Sep 2015 09:03:43
Seems odd about Clasie being injured for so long , when asked two weeks ago RK said that all the players apart from the long termers would all be fit and back in full training after the international break . Now he says he is not close to being fit , odd . I hope we haven't bought another Gaston and in the position Clasie plays he will get injured in this league if he is a bit lightweight . We only saw him close up in the one game he was involved in at St Mary's and bingo longish injury . I know I'm a pessimist but it doesn't look like he will be injury free very often.

2.) 11 Sep 2015 09:50:09
He didn't ever say they'd definitely be back for the West Brom game, it was just a target in his opinion when asked by reporters. Even though Bertrand will be back in training on Monday he has not trained or played a match for three months now, so it might not be until mid to late October we see him closer full match fitness.

As for Clasie even though it seemed like an innocuous injury at the time, having a person's dead weight land on the back of your ankle could cause a lot of damage to the ligaments, there would be no good in rushing him back if it could lead to further setbacks. And it seems silly to compare him to Ramirez given his main issue has always been his fitness and not so much actual injuries.

3.) 11 Sep 2015 10:42:23
Don't agree about Gaston's fitness , every report has said that he has picked up knocks and nothing has ever been said about him being unfit just very injury prone .

4.) 11 Sep 2015 17:44:02
The only thing that Koeman has said about Ramirez's current absence from the first team came back in pre-season when he said was left behind because he wasn't at the fitness level needed to be to play. Prior to that Ramirez has had three injuries with Saints, a hamstring, a thigh and ankle ligaments all of which happened before we loaned him out to Hull. I think we need to accept that it's not an injury that's keeping him out of the team here.

Heard a rumour this morning that Erwin Koeman is not in Switzerland with the Saints squad but is in Spain. He could be looking at a player but I wonder if he's checking out Barcelona ahead of a possible move for him and RoKo in the summer. Also rumour resurfaced about RoKo going to Newcastle

1.) 06 Mar 2015 11:26:59
Or he could be taking a long weekend break!

2.) 06 Mar 2015 13:27:02
That could also be true Saint Martin.

3.) 06 Mar 2015 13:32:05
I think your a bit bored mate.

4.) 06 Mar 2015 17:22:36
Why on earth would he leave Saints for NUFC? Bigger fanbase and stadium yes, but I think its blatantly obvious we are above them in every other aspect of Football. Academy, owners, facilities current position. Where did you hear this rumour? I didn't hear it the first time let alone the resurfaced one.

5.) 06 Mar 2015 18:32:27
Neil Moxley. Last weeks Sunday People

6.) 06 Mar 2015 19:38:07
Erwin is in Davos with the rest of the first team squad. He's in the pictures and videos uploaded to the official site, from yesterday's ice hockey (!) and today's activities on the ski slopes.

7.) 07 Mar 2015 02:23:54
NUFC would love RoKo but then i'm sure RoKo would love Messi. Nothing story. Thanks for the chuckle but I am really not worried about him leaving for NUFC. How many decent managers would want to work for mike ashley?

8.) 08 Mar 2015 18:44:17
Koeman ain't going anywhere it's just boring boring media gossip as they haven't got anything to write about. Stop panicking and concentrate on a superb finish to this season. 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th would be a fantastic achievement after the start of the season with the exodus of players and manager we experienced. We WILL get better and better under Koeman the board and the academy (what about the under 21's getting to the final) Players are being lined up already for next season if we can't stop certain players leaving. I predict an upset at Chelsea next match. COYR's

07 Jan 2015 16:26:57
Victor Valdes has accepted an offer to join Man Utd so Anders Lindegaard could be available. He could be just right as Fraser Forster's back up. What do other posters think ?

{Ed002's Note - Lindegaard and Amos are both available.}

1.) Would love this.
I always felt he deserved more game time at utd when de gea looked dodgy the first couple of years. Always look good when he played and it seemed de gea was only getting the nod because of the fee utd paid for him

2.) Lindegaard is good enough to be playing regular first team premier league football. What would we want to sign to be back up. Granted would be a good signing for us but just can't see it happening. We do need someone though.

3.) Amos could be a good option? And provide good back up while he develops

05 Aug 2014 20:49:52
I hope its wrong but a friend of mine who claims to be in the know says that Southampton's transfer business is finished for this transfer window.

1.) What's that smell? Smells like bull. well you get the idea with that.

2.) Aha that explains why taider didn't sign tonight I guess. I can picture it now him poised to sign his contract then les barges in yanks the contract from him and says don't need you now sunny we are all off to las vegas with the bonuses we just got no money left for transfers toodle pip. As he runs out the door with crisp 50s flying out his back pocket.

3.) 05 Aug 2014 21:44:28
They are too busy tucking the money under kl mattress to bother running the club

4.) As the expression hopefully
they will turn up like buses
fingers crossed
bit annoying Newcastle have signed 9 players
god knows who were trying to get
but i'd like to think these players know each other from either national or club sides

5.) Well with Koeman saying that he wants to bolster our squad with '2 or 3 more signings' last weekend and also saying that Taider would bring quality to the squad should we get him in, I would strongly doubt that your friend is correct. I would also suggest that Koeman is both clever and experienced as a manager and I would trust him to realize that we need to strengthen in certain areas. I would seriously question this idea that we are done for business.

6.) Did you know the word 'gullible' isn't actually in the dictionary!?

7.) 05 Aug 2014 22:27:02
With the information I received today, I'd say the first half of Salisbury St John's post is closer to the truth.

8.) 05 Aug 2014 23:05:13
I think Aussie saint that while the gullible does not appear it the dictionary it is mentioned in the boardroom of SFC when referring to the fans

9.) Really Ozzy saint? That's unreal. I have always thought that was a real word. I will look at life differently from now on, thanks

10.) Whilst I don't agree with the original poster, the hysterical replies smack of fans affected by denial.

I see to recall similar responses whenever someone warned about Shaw leaving. "he won't go, he loves this club, he loves the fans, he signed a new contract. oh"

There is an emerging trend which continues to suggest that Southampton don't have as much money as thought. This would explain some of the hard haggling over Forster and Rojo, as well as why there has been less activity than hoped for.

Nothing to panic about. Board seem to be doing a good job. Pragmatic and careful.

On a positive note I don't think Liverpool will be trying to poach him.

17 Jul 2015 09:28:23
Barca president says that Arda Turan could be loaned out for a while. Come on Roko sign him up.

08 Jul 2015 10:04:23
Barca new boy Arda Turan is likely to be loaned out until January because he can't play for Barca until then. Maybe worth Roko having a chat with his old friends at Barca and trying to sign him on a 6 month loan?

1.) 08 Jul 2015 14:32:50
would be amazing and not as bad idea but would it wouldn't make much sense for Barcelona or Arda

30 May 2015 18:50:17
We're on our way to Europe.

20 May 2015 08:07:05
After watching the U21s abysmal performance last night it just confirms what I thought already that none of that squad are ready to step up to the first team. 1 or 2 might make it on to the bench but I don't think any of them are good enough to start EPL matches. I hope that Roko is given enough money to replace leavers and bring in at least another 3 top players to keep us moving forwards

1.) 20 May 2015 10:10:56
one bad performance (against a very good team btw) isn't indicative of how talented that u21 team is and how well they've done over the whole season (W9/D4/L9). Don't forget that team played 3 games in a week (including going up to city and beating them 2-0 on saturday)

Targett, Reed, Isgrove, McQueen, Gallagher & Seager (21 goals this season, can't be that bad, eh?) are all good enough to come in and do a job next season. McCarthy will captian the first team one day. Cook, considering he's only 17, is doing well and will make the first team albeit in a few seasons. There's a massive amount of talent in that team that will be coming through, not just next season but for 3-4 seasons after

2.) 20 May 2015 10:25:18
Sadly not every crop of youngster's can make the cut, however the next step should be to loan them out to a Championship or League One club and see how they develop. I think this may be the best option for the likes of Ryan Seager, Sam Gallagher, Dom Gape, and a few others. They've had a great season for the U21's now let's see how they fair in a really competitive division of the football league. There's plenty of promise, they just need to put the hard graft in now.

3.) 20 May 2015 10:28:31
One loss like that doesn't define the team. Manchester City won the game well and deserved to. Despite Southampton being such a good side to develop young players, they're not going to win every game. Be proud that this group won a trophy, have great chemistry with eachother and the first team and that some of them will make the step up in time. Instant success has never been the aim.

4.) 20 May 2015 11:05:41
I think reed and targett will make the bench, for some reason I get the impression Gallagher is not a youngster roko likes not in the squad even when we have no strikers on the bench which is a shame as he's sort of in between pelle/guidetti what I thought roko likes as a striker tall strong etc seager I don't think is rokos type of striker at all which is a real shame and as for McCarthy it's so hard for prem teams to trust young unproven cbs as it's a vital part of the team and mistakes will get punished at this level hence hardly any good young English cbs in the game at all

5.) 20 May 2015 11:41:05
What I was trying to get across was that normally we have 2 or 3 U21s who can come in to the first team each year and do themselves justice but I don't think that any of the present crop could do that. Maybe because our first team have got some better players my expectations have increased but I hope that a few from the U21s can step up and prove me wrong. I still think that we have one of the best academies in world football but a lot of youngsters look at the big spenders and think that they will be better off signing for them

6.) 20 May 2015 12:39:07
How can u say that last year we had 1 youngster in ward prowse year chambers so another 1 n before that only oxlade Chamberlain so 2 or 3 every year is wrong next year will b the same with reed

7.) 20 May 2015 14:39:48
Remember that we have the two Jack's out on loan at Swindon (who are in the L1 play-off final on Sunday)

8.) 20 May 2015 17:24:02
It's harsh to judge the U21s based upon the overall team performances, as the line-ups are often compromised by a number of players who will fall a long way short of making the grade. That's just how it is - Man United's famous "class of 92" only actually got five players into the first team. The rest were rubbish. And Robbie Savage.

I think McCarthy and Will Wood have looked the best defensive prospects. Hesketh has bags of promise. Seager and Gallagher have a good chance of featuring for the first team in the very near future. Add them to the more established Ward-Prowse, Reed and Targett, and that's eight players (eleven, if you consider Chamberlain, Chambers and Shaw are also from this crop's generation) that could potentially make the grade. That's would be an amazing achievement if it happened.

And going into the age-groups below, Josh Sims, Marcus Barnes, Armani Little, Alfie Jones, Callum Slattery, Harley Willard are ones to watch, in my opinion. Maybe none of them will make it, maybe all of them will. But they're certainly not a write off.

I don't expect Mugabi, Gape, McQueen, Isgrove, Sinclair, Rowe to reach Premier League standard, but who knows - they might be late developers and surprise us all.

Don't give up on them yet!

9.) 20 May 2015 21:11:43
I'm certainly not giving up on them. I'd like to see all our young lads make it to the first team after all it's what the academy is for and if it wasn't for the money brought in to the club from the sale of some of the players that came from our academy it's quite possible that we wouldn't be in such a strong financial position as we are at present.

I don't understand this " not up to the physicality of the premier" He's not much different in size and strength to David Silva and he's probably the first name on the team sheet up at the Mancs. I think we should put him in and see what he can do. He's probably our best chance of unlocking defences with his skill and trickery

What I'm trying to get across is it must be disheartening for a lad that's been with Saints working his socks off for years dreaming of one day getting into the first team then BANG. A couple more imports to get past. I know that teams have to cast their net wider these days but we have always been known for bringing on British talent.

Having an interest in these two young lads is ok but what sort of message is that sending out to the academy lads some of whom have been with Saints for a long time.

Well he must show something in training but it still doesn't even get him a place on the bench. If Kelvin Davis is still considered to be better than him he surely can't be that good.

Really? Well good luck to the lad. I know that he wasn't the best loved player at Southampton and was very often made the scapegoat when things went wrong but in a few matches that I watched I actually thought that he was the best player on the pitch. Of course there were also some matches when he had an absolute stinker.
