Watched the game tonight and was impressed with both Wanyama and Lovren, players that didn't shine for me where Lallana, Mayuka, Jay Rod or Lambert though lambert never plays well pre season. He didn't last year. While watching it was clear who are strongest players will be next season while also pointing out the young talent we have coming through. I believe we most defiantly need a striker and another cam! but overall we played well against a better team we just need to finish chances, lambert missed a sitter
1.) As I've kept saying you don't score goals you don't win matches simple's!
2.) Totally agree with the top post. defense will get a lot better as they gel, and with yoshida back. but we need more bite up front.
3.) Although Lovren did look solid most of the game, it was his fault we conceded the second goal and as everyone knows, goals win games. However you can't judge the teams development on one friendly. Despite Schalke 04 being a quality team (reaching the Champions League semis in 2011) I don't think we were outshone and you could argue we were the best team in the first half.
4.) Read a few reviews of the game and all said we played better the first half and played well all game.
Agreed though and have been saying it for a while. We need a proven darn good striker who will get us double figure goals. Jay rod still needs some maturing, Rickie cannot be relied on for the whole season and if we get an injury or two it could cripple us.
I would be over the moon if we got a proven goal scorer and a proven attacking midfield player.
5.) Fonte was shocking when he came on and s. Davis done nothing.
6.) A lack of quality out wide as well. Lallana offers nothing. Puncheon got into some dangerous positions, but he never passes, just dallies on the ball endlessly until the chance is lost.
7.) Wouldn't read too much into friendlies, but I agree we need a goalscorer, poacher type striker (a Billy Sharp type player). Mayuka can't play the lone role up front IMO so might as well be used as an impact winger so a striker is definitely needed
8.) Wanyama looked far too slow, lallana was class as always as was puncheon, lambert was crap as was mayuka, lovren looked classy but i'm pretty sure it was him who miss judged the ball for huntelaar to score was it not? but above all everything buckled when boruc wasnt on the feild

A goalscorer is needed but if he doesn't get the ball he won't score many!
11.) Oh do we need a striker or two. Fingers crossed that we manage to bring in some quality up front before the season starts. Ricky will score his share I am sure but we need pace up front otherwise we are going to struggle in some games.

14.) Can ANYONE remember when RL looked any good in pre-season? He has always seen these matches about building to the season.
15.) We will ignore the fact that lallana set up lambert, and did a nice little bicycle kick that was handballed to prevent it going in. Also, you attack Lovren, still looking to find his feet, but if he had not made an excellent block before the corner it would have been a goal anyway. All in all, that was foxes fault, couldn't stop his man down the left, they get a corner from it, other team score. story of the season shocker.
Wanayma looked excellent, MS was good but some hit or miss passes. Lambert was appaling, and jRod beat his men in midfield but no finish.
Though punch had a good game.
16.) If I was manager and my striker didn't score in games when he had easy chances. it would be a simple decision, get on the bench

18.) Good job you are not manager! You would just end up with your top scorer unfit to start the season! You really thought that one through.

How would this make your top scorer unfit? if he played the pre season and scored none and another of our strikers scored shed loads be a simple choice really! you say lambert never scores in pre season if I was poch I'd be a tad worried why he ain't putting 6 yard opportunity a away ( sitters)

I heard a rumour our away kit is black and gold? :s eya?
1.) I would like it to remain as the yellow and blue. Makes us look like Brazil. Especially with the great passing game, although the finishing wasn't too great with those performances.
2.) Would only like it if there is minimal gold, maybe like the white stripes on our home kit last year
3.) When does the kit come out?
4.) It's our 3rd kit that has been yellow in recent years rather than our away kit.
5.) Apparently it goes on general sale July 1st, I also heard it will be revealed some when in the next week and half. but I guessing from the person who told me they don't have an idea on the date. its hard to get info out of St Marys everyone who knows something is very tight lipped. and if I had to guess from what I figure the kit will be revealed 20th to the 24th of this month but that's me just putting two and two together. because i'm sure they will want any new signings to be holding the new kit

8.) Re: the aap3 sponsorship, the rumour is that they were not expecting such a fast rise up to the premiership & last season has cost them a small fortune so were seeking a get out. It was also rumoured a short while ago that we were being linked with a major drinks brand as our new sponsors.
9.) The crest is going to be gold.

12.) Away kit is black and gold by all accounts. Home strip is not rank xerox style. However, saints designers tend to lag one year behind saints web - therefore we will get rank zerox addidas kit next season!
13.) It's not the Saints that design the kit. They may choose a design but ultimately it will be Adidas supplying the templates and colour schemes.

I heard a rumour that saints are going show the fans the kit sometime within the next week and a half, with the kit going on general sale on july 1st. does anyone see any truth in this?
1.) Hi ed do u know anymore on the new Saints Adidas kit? {Ed003's Note - There will be a shirt,shorts and socks and most likely have Red and White as the main colours.}
2.) Can't ask for more than that really lol. As long as it isn't as bad as the Liverpool away one altho i'm not sure that's possible.

I know a lot of people don't want Osvaldo because of his attitude and stuff but let's be honest here and look at what he adds to the squad he scored 15 goals last season in 25 apps for Roma. Now that's really good considering he wasn't in the first 11 for each game he played he was mainly used as a sub. and there is no doubt that he will score goals for us plus I think it will help Ramirez out because he can pass the ball to someone that has the same creativity as him. whereas lambert is quality and everyone loves him, he doesn't have the same quality finishing as Osvaldo. now see it this way we have goals in all our players. if lambert gets 15 again, Osvaldo gets 15, and everyone else get 5-9 goals ( I mean the likes of lallana and Ramirez and jayrod Btw) we could have a very high finish on our hands and I can see the squad that is being built. MoPo managed to control Osvaldo while he was at Espanyol or however you spell it so why can't he control him now hey? this guy is going to bring quality to the team we are lacking in the final third! if we get himhe will be able to finish more of the chances we create in the box then our team can right now.

Thought i'd say this about the saints team if we get Damiao.
WE have a good team and we will play 4, 2, 3, 1 this season with a really strong squad going on the pitch.
Boruc, Clyne, Yoshida, Lovren, Shaw, Wanyama, Schniederlin, Gaston, Lallana, Jay Rod, Damiao
This squad, who knows what it is capable of?
We may not get Damiao but I have a feeling this is a typical signing by NC playing things out until he gets what he wants.
I am worried about this season but not because I think we go down. because teams around us like Norwich are strengthening and they look stronger. we look stong now maybe just as strong as any team but we need this signing in order to make people think twice about us.
The times are looking up for saints, and lads seriously this is a family club always has been but just because we look like getting success don't let it go to your heads, Remember where we have come from and remember that we could of lost our club a few years back now we are back stronger than ever and that means the best support we can give the team.
Just under three weeks until the first game, getting close to the season in which we will find out what our squads made off. we had a list of five players at the start of the window. Lovren, Astori, Wanyama, Damiao, Banega. we got two make a it three and i'm sure we will have a very good season and finish above 10th, and with a good cup run?
Who knows but let's get behind the team and show them why they play for us! and we owe West Brom let's give them a game. COYR'S
1.) Lallana has done nothing to justify his place in that squad compared to Cork/Davis/Puncheon/Lambert.
I love the lad to bits, but he had a poor season last time and hasn't been anything special pre-season.
2.) Maybe because he was injured last season and also because he is not a left winger and should play as CAM.
3.) Lallana has played on the left more times than other positions since we got relegated

4.) I agree lallana was quality in the championship in which he would cut in and curl them into the bottom far corner. Last year he would beat the player then have the opportunity to shoot. But for some reason he would pass the buck 90% of the time. Spose you could put it down to confidence. hope he finds that bit of confidence this year to start taking the chances cause we all know he's a quality player.

Leandro rumours seem to be picking up heavily now. Damaio seems like a great player, I hope he brings that extra bit of class we need up front. I do believe though he has a point to prove this season with him wanting to play for brazil and with fred playing well up front he has to stack a claim and prove himself this season so, with his intensions clear I think his would be a great signing

Kennedy Igboananike is on Southampton's radar and only being 500 thousand in prise would be a steal. though I haven't seen much of him I have seen him play three or four times good player with a good finishing ability. though only 23 years of ages I guess he is worth a pop, but i'm not sure if i'd rather go for proven or go for someone like Kennedy Igboananike who is a risk but if it is pulled off could be the best 500 thousand we have spent :) what do you think
1.) Saw this news along with a cracking 15 minute reel of him. Looks really good. Well worth a punt.
Could there be a problem with work permits though?
2.) We are not going for a player that don't stand a chance to get a work permit. He is Nigerian and has no caps from the last years (if he even have before. )

Right so been thinking, During most games last season we created the most chances but didn't score, I found we tried to hold the ball up to much as well, I believe we need to get ourselves a striker and a Cam before the end of the window I am not worried but I am concerned that this is an area that is not being looked at, I believe we will score goals next season but again believe that lambert can't be relied on like last season. jay Rod is still young and will come good but scoring less than 10 in a year isn't going to keep us up. mayuka has pace and eye for goal but can't hold his own in the striking position and I believe if he is to be our striker he'll play joy rod and Mayuka up front together as he doesn't seem to be able to battle defenders of. I believe mayuka will become a winger while at saints to utilise his pace to the max, I see lambert playing in the hole behind Jay rod and them to switching. but again I believe most saints fans will be happy to see a goal scorer come to the club. but I have a feeling we won't be in for any other players. I also feel as though Lallana as much as I rate him tries todo to much with the ball which can ultimately cost us a game sometimes, all in all I think i'll be more relaxed when I see a striker come into the side and another attacking mid. though I do know Ramirez can play in the striking position and would like to see how he fairs playing up front and moving Lambert to the cam mid position he started his career playing in? what do you think?
1.) Bit concerned about the Cam and st? Mp clearly stated leandro and banega were wanted if we miss out on them he will have others in mind i'm sure
2.) Goals win games, and I agree certain players like Lambert do hold up the ball, but it is one of his strengths. Just hope they don't do it to often and lose the ball or their attacking momentum. I agree we should get a CAM, Ramirez had superb technical ability but his fitness is suspect and with our high energy game I doubt he'd be able to play every game for 90 minutes, so someone to rotate with him would be fantastic. Davis did pretty well last season but he's a CM naturally so he always seemed a bit awkward and his shooting isn't brilliant. Jay Rod was one of our best players in the second half of last season but he's not perfect and I doubt would score any more than 10-15 this season. A proven goalscorer, even if their attitude is a bit of a risk is a must for this transfer window.

Morgan Schneiderlin won't leave been saying this for a long time, plus Why would he want to go to Real Sociedad when he could easily go to a better team than them? 14.2 million make that 30 million and ill take it but 14. 4 no just he'll easily be worth 20-25 million in two seasons
