All disappointed about today? Mistakes, mistakes and more mistakes! We're being punished for them. However, one must also look at our inability to capitalise when afforded the same! As fans we have a right to express opinion, to include naming individual poor performances, team selection and tactics.

Please remember where we were this time last year! Yet, now 9th with form of a relegation team, after the last six games, we have the same common denominators, which have already been mentioned on other posts. What's changed? A new manager and 3 summer signings, 2 not playing today, and we are 9th, not to mention illness and injury that has robbed us of many key players during that period.

Our expectations have changed! Ultimately, I blame Cortese?

As I always say at this time of year "I believe".

1.) Although Pochettino has clearly done a marvelous job with Southampton in his 11 months in charge, I still doubt Nigel Adkins would have done any worse.

But, of course, the last six games have seen the points dry up. We did in this spell play at least three of the best teams around, and to be frank, losing 3-2 at home to Spurs isn't all that bad. They could win the title this season (but only if they appoint Hoddle!)

Cardiff are next, that's a biggy for Malky Mackay if he's still in his job (which he should be, as he's done a blooming brilliant job, and is a very good young manager, top man too). We'd have beaten Spurs today if AVB had still be in their dug-out. Sadly, Sherwood's given them a boost, and a kick they needed, as well as more attacking approach. Playing two up front certainly helps.

Points are still up for grabs, we have a great chance of finishing in the top half. And, look at Newcastle last season, finishing in a European position doesn't always bode so well. We're doing very well, and perhaps this blip in form will rectify itself once a few players return to fitness.

Southampton Football Club has one of the brightest future's of all the clubs in England. This is a good time to be a supporter. Rock on!

Saint Etienne.

2.) Cortese is an amazing Chairman! Why would you blame him?! Bayern Munich were after him not so long ago. RESPECT THE TEAM!

3.) I think he was being ironic when he said he blamed Cortese? Ie, He has done such a good job that expectations have been raised too much? (that means that he wasn´t really blaming him, it was just a joke)

4.) I think "I blame Cortese" was said tongue in cheek! Given, the fantastic job he has done and continues to do. Up MARGINAL GAINS!

Agreed! Strange decision leaving Lallana on the bench against Newcastle. Clearly, he has been inspirational, again, this season! However, we have leaked goals, all by our own mistakes in the last 3 matches. Another Lovren please! We need David Astori or equivalent to incorporate a belt and braces approach to our defence. Yes, we are top 10 and deserve to be there! But, silly errors, left footed attempt to clear the ball by Jos, reminiscent of Fox in last years away fixture against Newcastle, add a touch of reality to our dreamy start. Great to see the youngsters playing, but where we are needing to improve do we buy? Yes! Yes! Yes!

Bed Tates

1.) I agree, I think Fonte and Lovren have been class, but Jos and Yoshida are not up to it, someone like Micah Richards would be good, as he's good on the ball and has some pace, to cope with quick attackers

2.) We will not buy Micah Richards, give it a rest. Ain't that good and on a fortune. Can we please move on, PLEASE!

3.) Lallana and Schneiderlin were not fully fit - hence they didn't start. Not such a strange decision really.

4.) I swear all of you seem to think every player can run their socks off for 90+ a week all season and not get tired. AL was left on the bench because he wasn't fit enough to play the full 90, as with Morgan.

Yosh and Hooiveld are good enough for back up, we aren't going to get a top centre back in aswell as keep Fonte, one will want first team football somewhere else and we'll be in the same position we are now if one is injured. Don't expect any replacement's 'til the summer

Well! 45 minutes we held our own? Second half we were never a threat, £27 Million wasted? Osvaldo and Rameriz ( not on the bench )! The game plan fell apart in the second half, they presses more than us, Wanyama no pace! Agreed, there to break up play but we were light weight in the second half. However, not all negative! 7 th position, a head of Man utd but are we too light in attack options? Not converting creating or converting enough, squad to shallow in depth?

Bed Tates

1.) Completely agree, we shouldn't be bringing on Steve Davies as a winger as he's a CM, need another pacey play who can play out wide and score goals, I'd love Saido Berahino personally, or someone like Arron Lennon, or maybe give the likes of Omar Rowe or Loyd Isgrove a go?

2.) Only listened to games on radio but the arsenal and Chelsea matches followed the same pattern. we dominated for long periods but did not maximise this by scoring goals. whilst we are doing well maybe a rethink is required

3.) Yes a re-think is required, starting with people remembering how far we have come that we are not a top four club yet! There is a world of difference between us and the top four teams and as this season goes on this will become clearer and clearer to all.
MoPo and NC know all this, and we are on the right path but we are at least a year or two away at best.
We are still building, but longer term.

3rd in the EPL! Talk of the football world! England manager watched half his world cup team today! NC and MP are developing a brand of football, infrastructure and club (business) we're all proud of!
Bring on Arsenal and Chelsea, top at Christmas?

Gaston or no Gaston?

As a staunch SFC fan, season ticket holder and ex-player, I originally was excited by Gaston's arrival. However, he has flattered to deceive! Full of talent, yet weak on physic (this may have improved, slightly since arrival of MP), lack of ability to keep the ball in possession and an ability to miss direct shots, and dead balls too long or too high!

This year we have new purchases to compare him against? Albeit in value, rather than position, such as Wanyama, Lovern and Osvaldo, the latter has shown class in (albeit fleetingly) with his touch and work rate. £12 million (alleged purchase price), do we sell, save on salary but make a loss! Or do we? The deal must have been structured? However, I conclude, do we need to sell him? Keep him or buy another AM? Banega, perhaps?

Bed Tates

1.) There's only one person that can answer that question, and that's MoPo. I'm sure that Cortese is asking the question as to whether to stick or twist.

Perhaps he'll go out on loan.

2.) Good point made on the radio today that the Saints first 11/14 are so good that it makes the other players in the squad look more "ordinary" than they really are. So, IMHO, Gaston needs to show he can be pretty exceptional otherwise he needs to be moved on and another playmaker brought in. Don't think NC will accept Gaston sitting on the bench for the second half of the season if the club are in the top 6 at Christmas and have a chance to progress from there.

Saint Martin

3.) Would not surprise me to learn that there was an appearance clause in his contract whch could be a factor in all this.
Either way NC is too good a business man to pay over £55k a week to Gaston for very much longer.
Every club has had big signings that don't work out for various reasons including Saints with Augustin Delgado, we must move on.

Niemi didn't have the defence we have now. But he was a world class keeper, Artur has only been with us a short period in comparison, and is improving. But Niemi gets my vote at present.

Does it hold 32,000? Perhaps they've had an extension! Good luck new owners.
