Ed's, what is with the paper talk bout Clyne stalling on his contract offer and Utd wanting him. Do you know what is happening or is it just paper talk?

Hamble Chris

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what the papers are saying but new contract at Southampton is on offer but interest from Manchester United remains as he is seen as a much cheaper alternative to Coleman. The previous interest of Spurs has gone.}

1.) Slightly annoying that he is seen as the cheaper option when he is the better player.

{Ed002's Note - That is subjective - but he is a fraction of the price.}

2.) Sorry ed. should have said better in my opinion! Hope he won't be swayed by reds esp when we win tomorrow!

3.) How much is Coleman priced at then ? because I would say Clyne is worth a fair amount

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get in to amounts of money - it will simply confuse you.}

4.) Clynes value will be lower based on the fact he is nearing the end of his contract, also his reluctance to sign a new contract would suggest to potential buyers that he wants to move on. With this in mind the selling club will likely accept a lower fee to move a player on that doesn't want to stay particularly if he can leave on a free if it isn't sorted soon. I have just read an article on Newsnow and the article is saying Everton are ready to match our offer for Tadic. Does the Ed's or anyone know of any truth of this article?

Hamble Chris

{Ed001's Note - I don't know anything about that.}

1.) Ffs wish this board would pull their finger out! Tadic should have been signed a week ago!!

2.) Agree but saints penny pinching like usual will ultimately relegate us from epl

3.) Nonsense. Koeman is still new. The World Cup is still a distraction. Clubs, players, agents are still jockying for position.

Its only the beginning of July. You can't just force players to sign for you. The club has to make the right decision. A 10 million pound player might cost the club 30 million over the course of his contract.

Southampton also need to know who is staying and who is going. let's sort out the futures of Schneiderlin and Lovren first.

Saints will have around 50 million to spend on fees. That needs to be spent wisely, not just to appease impatient fans

4.) Dont think kl/lr estimate the drop in turnover/revenue if we come out of epl, its disgusting that the decision withhold bonuses has started this monumental failure in the making, holding back on say £15m in bonuses which could couple with losing £100 from dropping out of epl such short sighted and shows current board ARE out of there depth, I agree I want us to b well run well budgeted club not like man c/ psg/anzi but in all my life I've never seen a team loose 5 first teamers let alone survive, lot of people on here deluded to think we will survive with rowe/targett/Gallagher/isgrove, we had smallest outfield squad in epl last year, fact,, we need 7 new poss 8 if spidy goes and at least 4 of these need to be able to hit ground running and quality with the likes of Witsel/Tadic/perisic not with the likes bentner/ings/samaras, very peed off disillusioned saints fan

5.) You get these problems when clubs are run by people who know nothing about football.

6.) Remind me the background of cortese before he joined.

My understanding is the the day to day football is run by reed not the board as they also understand they don't have the knowledge to make football calls hence why reed oversea the Koeman signing- one which will prove a perfect fit for us saints, so I for one say back of the board let them breath and well who knows we might we be liking the new look saints in a month or so. Or do we want to over pay over the odds for players like Liverpool have and seem keen to continue doing so. Koeman needs some space and time to do deals that are long term players for us not just quick fix to make us think everything is ok. Chill relax and watch the jigsaw slowly fall in to place as what I heard its happy days ahead

7.) Yes but wheels shouldve been put in motion sooner, they knew mopo would most likely leave so they should have had options not mince around and wait 3wks, now the problem is getting people in and getting them to gel in 40odd days, we cannot afford to have a bad start in epl

8.) 07 Jul 2014 09:49:28
Couldn't agree more dsj. Seems to me it's always been the same with this shall we, shan't we buying policy. A bit like being in a shop and there's only one item you want left, by the time you dither about making your mind up this long arm comes over your shoulder and grabs it!

Anyone know why Toby isn't playing today?

Hamble Chris

1.) 20 Sep 2014 19:24:36
He's injured.

2.) He tweeked his hamstring, and there was no need to risk him since we have such strength and depth in the squad.

What a difference a year makes!

3.) 21 Sep 2014 19:10:49
Really happy about the result but we were very poor in the first half. Why isn't Wanyama playing ? Different team with him in it, so much more strength in midfield. Can somebody tell me why we paid 12m for Long ? I thought he was very, very average. Forster needs to learn how to come for crosses without just flapping his arms around in hope. Gardos looked very composed when he came on even though he didn't have much to do. Make my week if we can beat or preferably thrash Harry the Hood at the weekend. Not getting carried away as we are far from the finished article.

4.) 21 Sep 2014 20:33:13
Bit harsh chrisdownj!

Yes, the 3 up top looked a little below par but the defence and midfield looked good. We have a lot of strength apart from in the forward line where we have been without Mane, Jay Rod and Gallagher.

We are certainly not a finished article but we are progressing and we have a manager who has a plan B and is having an instant impact (see Spurs site re. their problems!) RoKo says each midfield player should be getting 5-10 goals per season and suddenly we see Jack and Victor break their ducks-I don't believe this is chance, there is a lot of work being done and I think we will start to see the attack click into gear shortly.

5.) Gardos was quietly impressive. I'd seen bits and bobs before he signed and worried that he'd be Mertersaker-slow, but he looked really mobile and covered the ground in good time.

Didn't have any defending to do as Swansea were playing for 0-0 after Bony went off, but Gardos had a touch of quality about him, I felt.

Hopefully he'll get a start against Arsenal and we'll learn a bit more - can't imagine Alderweireld will be risked before the QPR game, and Yoshida picked up a knock on Saturday, so the defence may well pick themselves.

6.) 22 Sep 2014 09:21:07
Well I may have been a little harsh Saint Martin but I was trying to be realistic about our inconsistencies. It showed against Newcastle, one minute superb and the next allowing them to have possession. Dyer is a lightweight but he did prove that wingers destroy the game plan sometimes when they get past the full backs and pull out the defence. Hope if Mane is as good as we believe we will then see Pelle score more goals because he won't have two or three on him. Sort of agree with point about JWP, he seems to be at a standstill development wise recently, his corners and crossing have been poor. To me it should have been Davis, Wanyama and Spider on Saturday they are best at containing the diamond formation. Just hope we put a full side out at the Emirates tomorrow, if we get past that one I honestly think we will win it. Europa Cup then and the winners of that go straight into the Champions League, seems an easier route by a million miles than trying to get in to the top four.

7.) Interesting points raised guys. Saint Martin is correct when he says we aren't the finished article. It seems that when Pelle is marked out of the game with 2-3 central defenders it stops our attack. With Pelle being the foil that our attack builds up on, we need to find alternative solutions.
Regarding the Newcastle game chrisdownj I thought the key was Pardews change in tactics to stop Davis playing. For the first 20 minutes or so, Davis was allowed far too much space, and it showed with Davis running the show. Pardew shuffled his pack, and Davis was marked out of the game after that, but of course it didn't matter too much since they were 2-0 down by then.

It's been a hugely impressive start by Saints, especially considering the summer exodus. defensively we look great. Midfield has options aplenty, but from time to time our attack looks blunt. Really looking to see what Mane brings to the squad, and with JRod back in the not too different future, I back us to end up with more points than last season. Europe may be a stretch too far, but it will be a bloody good ride!

8.) 23 Sep 2014 12:09:53
Totally agree St Christopher about Davis being taken out of the game against Newcastle and it wasn't his best performance anyway. I really rate him though and feel if we tweak the midfield on a regular basis with our fine selection of players in that position it may confuse the opposition manager doing his homework. Too many times in the middle to later stages of last season the opposing manager had worked out our system and with no Plan B we had a very average finish to the season. Wanyama to me has looked the 12m player so far this season and needs to be played as the likes of ( not very good so far ) Long may improve with his Wanyama's ability to force forward in a similar way to Yaya Toure at City. Just feel that we need to get out wide more and I sure that Mane is good for that and then maybe Pelle will score a lot of goals, for a big man he has a quality touch and holds the ball up brilliantly a little bit like Peter Crouch who I always thought was underrated. Just hope we go for it tonight and if we win that one I think the atmosphere will be brilliant on Saturday especially with Harry the Hood and his henchmen coming to the town.

Hi Edds, I know you get asked the same questions over and over again so I am sorry for this. Do you have any in sight on the next manager, if you do do you know roughly when it would be announced?

Hamble Chris

1.) Les Reed has said it will be soon and that we have a shortlist of 4 managers, and are closing in on their preferred choice, he has again said no deals will be done until the manager is on board, I think it will be Koeman as he apparantly impressed the board when he supposedly met with them

2.) 11 Jun 2014 03:05:09
les Reed is going to have to get this right or the project could go tits up. I am not of the opinion that Shaw and Lallana will necessarily leave it will very much depend on who is appointed and what new players are being brought in. Seen fro those two players prospective, they will need to consider that while moves may seem attractive they may no longer be first choice, not play every week, and still may not achieve their aims of winning trophies. United in particular have problems and if I were Shaw i'd think long and hard before accepting a move to a club that is basically in turmoil, with an ageing squad and no guarantee that such problems can be put right short term. Saints on the other hand have the better players overall, and probably with three or four additions could challenge fore championship football next season.

Ed's, have you got any info regarding a new manager?

I see there is a lot of speculation regarding Koeman but how much of it is actually true.

Hamble Chris

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new.}

Looks like Poch is going to go. If he has gone Katerina abd Krueger better pull something out the bag. If they don't what's the point in them staying. Sell on and move on. Let someone own the club with passion like Markus and Nicola.

Hamble Chris

1.) Listen up everybody. It's not all down to a lack of ambition. It could be that MoPo was always going to leave, and that nothing would change that - whatever the Board proposed. Also the FIFA FFP rules caps smaller clubs like us. Unless we can dramatically increase our turnover, we cannot over invest in the team - or we'll get penalised. I'm not happy about it, but criticising KL/The Board is a bit childish. I could only dream of being here, when not that long ago, I was sat watching us beat Torquay on pens for the JPT Cup! Where were you all that night?

2.) Katharina and ralph are amateur's

Rivaldo, why you knocking Tadic. for his first ever game in England and the Prem I thought he did well. Lallana has played in England all his life and he took ages to get used to the Prem. Plus once defenders realised that he only uses the Cruyff turn to get round people he won't do so well. I think Tadic is going to have a good season.

I Can not stand Welbeck. Such an over rated player. I would take Long all day over Welbeck.

I saw that Cork is commenting about Koeman. Anyone know if he will be signing a contract extension?
