heard ricardo saponara (CAM,24 years old) of empoli is a target, enjoyed a good season last year since leaving ac milan. Would love this one to be true

Puel said two new players, Boufal and Saponara would seem very positive.

TrueSaintZiyad

1.) 28 Aug 2016 14:35:35
We need boufal and a striker not another cam.

2.) 28 Aug 2016 14:58:14
oh it really is a shame redmond is considered a striker.

3.) 28 Aug 2016 18:35:31
Yeah I've seen this lad, although I understand he is reluctant to leave Italy and the club would be unwilling to let him go this late in the window as they haven't had much chance and will not have much time to find a replacement of the same sort of quality .

25 Aug 2016 10:57:52
Whats the news on stanciu? Was he a backup target or are saints looking to also bring him in?

TrueSaintZiyad

1.) 25 Aug 2016 12:06:29
I think he was second choice to boufal if that didn't go through but he's holding out for a bigger offer, he's happy to join us if no one else comes in. I'd say he'll have 2 seasons before moving on.

2.) 25 Aug 2016 12:38:05
Liverpool announce a deal to sign Boufal from Southampton in 2018 for 3x the amount the Saints signed him for.

3.) 25 Aug 2016 13:20:06
If it happens then we will still be continuing our business model with great success. And Liverpool will still have not won the league.

21 Aug 2016 11:57:14
Steaua Bucharest have apparently accepted a 7mill bid for Stanciu, who plays CAM, RM and LM. Excited about this one?

TrueSaintZiyad

1.) 21 Aug 2016 13:00:51
According to Wikipedia he has a 20 million buyout clause in his contract, so can't see that one happening,

2.) 21 Aug 2016 14:25:31
wikipedia. not the most reliable and accurate source eh?
personally, I see this going through.

{Ed001's Note - doesn't matter anyway, the buyout is just a protection in case they don't want to sell a player, it does not mean Saints have to pay that amount and is irrelevant to teams outside of the country the selling club is in.}

3.) 21 Aug 2016 14:45:54
Hope this one goes through he was quality at the euros and has had just as a good a start this season as he did all last season. Still think we need a new 'target' man tho, I think we should forget Austin and JRod for now, both have zero confidence. *ducks.

4.) 21 Aug 2016 16:14:20
Think stanciu could be a good acquisition if we sign him but as the above post has said a new target man should be brought in its as if everyone can see it except the manager and the board, crazy.

5.) 21 Aug 2016 17:53:03
^^^ how do you know what our Manager and Board are thinking?

1) Press Conferences will not have us saying that we are desperate for a target man as that will make us look poor, and will raise the price on every prospect we look at.

2) We can be making bids behind the scenes that are failing - we are not going to start promising something if we are unable to deliver it

3) We have strikers. Everyone seems to be ITK that JRod, SL and CA won't score a set number of goals. Those same ITK individuals also know for a fact that we have lost X amount of goals from Pelle and Mane - would love to know how they can tell the future - what if we kept Pelle and he broke his leg after transfer windows were shut? Being out injured would not guve us goals.

4) Osvaldo was a target man - look what happened there.

The Southampton Way is to breed youth, buy prospects and function as a business. Even if we could afford Pogba and Ibra I would wouldn't want them - 10 x 10 million decent prospects is a better route than having the worlds most expensive player.

Maybe I am just mad and should be a bedwetter like the rest of you?

x.

6.) 21 Aug 2016 22:44:22
Brilliant, "I wouldn't want Pogba or ibrahimovic".

7.) 21 Aug 2016 23:08:17
You don't want to get caught breeding youth.

8.) 22 Aug 2016 07:47:34
Read the post JamesSaint.

I would not want to buy those two players for over 100 million as that does not make business sense for our club.

Seems like all these people writing posts think its easy to just run a business and consistently spend millions.

Its unfortunate that a large part of our fan base is delusional!

What if we bought Ibra and Pogba, then they got injured? We would be back to square 1 - we need to add players to a squad, not just spend silly money on a marquee signing just to stop the bedwetters. People seem to forget that when we helped youth we made Bale, Walcott, Chamberlain, Chambers, Shaw, Lallana - so what is wrong with doing the same again?

9.) 22 Aug 2016 10:17:54
Steve230891, you are right in what you say, for sure this is Southampton model but any player no matter the cost has a possibility of getting injured, mane although not serious is now injured for liverhampton, Ayew for West Ham is toast! So any signing is always a gamble.

Also your spot on with the management and board no letting the media know what we are looking for in the transfer market. Would be bloody stupid if the manager came out publicly saying we need a target man and a hard tackling midfielder.

I just hope we are looking for some additions and mainly a striker, let's see what transpires. I think there will be a couple of additions before the windows closes. COYR!

10.) 22 Aug 2016 12:06:03
If it happens - YES. Looks good and could be a potentially good player. Unfortunately we have to wait and see. Still time in this transfer window. Keep the faith.

Shame to report this, but ben arfa WONT join saints and is signing a 3 year contract with Sevilla.
Puel made an extremely late offer to ben arfa but the sevilla deal was all but done at the time.

TrueSaintZiyad

1.) 28 Jun 2016 21:00:44
Puel is not the manager of SFC so how could he have made an offer . Am I reading this wrong?

2.) 28 Jun 2016 23:06:48
"Hey HBA, Claude here. I'm going to be the new boss at Saints. Want to sign? " Bit like that I'd imagine.

01 Jan 2016 20:01:59
Does Anyone have an idea on the future of Gaston Ramirez?

TrueSaintZiyad

1.) 01 Jan 2016 21:31:14
Bologna are said to be intrested but they may get put off with his high wages and price. In my opinion I'd give him a run in the team for tadic. Don't like how he plays doesn't suit us.

2.) 01 Jan 2016 21:32:00
Bolivian are interested. I'd play him for basic.

3.) 04 Jan 2016 22:34:35
Quite funny but gaston had prob out scored and assist
JWP.

4.) 05 Jan 2016 00:13:07
@southampton87 In fact, JWP has 5 assists in 23 matches this season whereas Gastón only has 1 assist in 5. Neither have scored.

5.) 05 Jan 2016 06:02:40
I'm on about since he joined not this season.

6.) 05 Jan 2016 06:13:56
Gaston has scored 8 goals in 66 matches for us
JWP has scored 2 in 114 matches played for us.

7.) 05 Jan 2016 10:38:35
Well, @southampton87 I don't know where you got your statistics from but in actual fact, Gastón has played 77 games for Southampton, scoring 9 goals and getting 11 assists from an attacking midfield or wing position. JWP on the other hand has played 113 games, scoring 2 goals and getting 17 assists from a holding midfield role.

{Ed002's Note - Keen to get away from England as soon as possible Southampton's Gaston Rameriz has admirers at Bologne and at Inter. As Inter are making a hash of what little money they have by throwing it all in one pot, and have a large shopping list, the opportuinity exists for Bologne to step in with an acceptable offer - and that is just what they are looking to do.}

8.) 05 Jan 2016 18:22:27
JWP in a defensive role really
I think when u play a 4 2 3 1 and u have a player like JWP on it will make the formation a 4 3 3
Cheers auti for correcting my mistake

Ed I have heard this for a while and cannot blame him I have a suspicious if Ramirez chose Tottenham or Liverpool
He would of been someting else in quality but the constant team changes and manager changes and a change of league did not work well for him.

{Ed002's Note - If GR goes it will not be to an English side man.}

9.) 06 Jan 2016 00:03:14
I agree I was talking about when he first came to us other teams had an offer and he would be better at a steady club
To much chop and change here.

10.) 06 Jan 2016 00:27:26
No problem, @southampton87! :)

Halfway through the window now, I just feel we are missing that creative spark nowadays. These days, we are just crosses endless pointless balls to a 5ft 7 Nathan redmond week in week out. This creative spark could be provided by tadic, but I just feel we could do with one, to release the pressure from a few players

im just sitting here watching deadline day, but I genuinely have no idea how to react to our transfer activity. I feel the other clubs in the leagues have been tempted in panic buying numerous players (Sissoko to everton for £30m imo is an example of a club struggling to tempt main targets such as brahimi and gabbiadini) . Additionally, i'm content with our business due to prices being heavily inflated (Marcos Alonso for £23m) . Splashing out cash on a player due to the other clubs buying I feel is a sign of nervousness and weakness. The main part of this window was holding onto the core of the team and tying them down to contracts was brilliant. thoughts?

TrueSaintZiyad

1.) 31 Aug 2016 22:43:58
This is a good post TrueSaintZiyad.
I agree prices are over inflated, haven't they been for years?
I still think a couple more players, even on loan in positions we need cover for would have done. CD and proven goal scorer other EPL clubs have followed this route.
I think it's glaringly obvious we are short in these areas, obviously the management don't.
But agree we needed to keep onto the core, but with Vic, Pelle and Mane leaving did we achieve that?

2.) 31 Aug 2016 23:09:55
I would have liked to see Sam Gallagher staying and playing the Pelle role instead of being loaned out. Apart from that we have replaced where we sold but not necessarily improved. Time will tell.

25 Aug 2016 13:02:36
as many people feel we need a ST and with zaza to west ham looking done, I would like to see Loic Remy. thoughts?

TrueSaintZiyad

1.) 25 Aug 2016 13:16:54
apparently west ham are talking to Remy as well, I doubt they will sign both players butI doubt we would pay Remys wages. I would be over the moon if we did get either though.

2.) 26 Aug 2016 01:04:52
Sébastien Haller rumours have gathered pace, recently, he could be a coup - he fits the Pellè mould and has some flair. Along with Boufal and possibly another defender, while seeing Rodríguez loaned and Martina sold, would end another successful transfer window.

3.) 26 Aug 2016 18:44:22
Agree regarding Haller, he's young, hungry, talented and a proven goal scorer (albeit in another league) . I'd like this to come true.

with rumours of a kit deal with American sportswear company Under Armour being agreed for next season, I read this is in order to increase our recognition in America. I personally am looking forward to having a unique kit as UA do not do templates for top division teams.

please could someone point out any other positives coming out of this kit deal which will benefit the saints?

TrueSaintZiyad

1.) 03 Feb 2016 20:20:50
It's easy to underestimate the size of the under armour brand since it's only really been mainstream over here for a few years, but it's huge out in america, similar to nike and adidas

We'd be one of the biggest footballing teams they work with, so I'd imagine they'd put a lot of work in and they already do a decent job of promoting the teams they work with.

In other kit news, someone posted what was supposedly a genuine leak of the kits last night, if I can find the pictures again I'll post them

Home shirt is mostly red w/ white stripes and black trim, the white stripes fade in an arrow sort of shape. Shorts are black with a half white, half red side stripe. White socks with a thin red and black band around the top

Away shirt is mostly royal blue with yellow sleeves. Yellow shorts with horizontal blue stripes down the side. Yellow socks

No sponsor yet as the club hasn't confirmed one, but the kits look really nice if they are definitely real.

2.) 04 Feb 2016 02:06:55
The rumored 5 year £40M deal is another positive

3.) 05 Feb 2016 13:08:13
Yes - read the bit above about the USA Coaching camps - then add that to Under Armour branding - they are bigger than Adidas in the USA - now valued at about $25 billion - then put two and two together and that's the marketing strategy for Saints. They feel - rightly - that soccer (sic) is hugely under-rated in the USA and want to build the brand in that market.

Next premier package could well go in part to a web TV bidder - why not apple or amazon or google - bringing the content through their platforms?

With the break up of FIFA / reset button - the USA will have a bigger say in World Cup locations - I bet the house they host one of the next two slots that come up rather than the Cook Islands, or Bhutan or wherever Seb Blatter was going to sell the next ones into.

FU2.

05 Jan 2016 18:26:53
i read an article on how Sadio Mane has had more attempts at goal from inside the box than any other player in the league with 21. Despite all this, he has only got his name on the scoresheet once from inside the area during this campaign

Maybe we could replace him easier than originally thought if he leaves in the summer. thoughts?

its fair to say the gap between the top teams and the bottom can clearly be distinguished now. The bigger teams were all in consistent form all year and rarely dropped points to lower teams.

finishing midtable with an unbelievable cup run despite a stacked fixture list due to European competition. hardly a need for a "very big warning".

No europe next year, we should be back to 6th/ 7th/ 8th. I am confident this summer we will invest strongly in order to compete with those above us.

i would love to see j-rod develop and become what he once was, but he just isn't getting that opportunity to get game-time and build confidence. Be interesting to see what's up with tadic at the end of the season after his little problem with puel.

wont deny I read it myself, the eavesdropper gave a really in depth analysis on the situation for it to be miles off the truth. Fontes gone this window, claims he handed in a transfer request earlier this week.
