Guly has had an operation! My 9 year old son asked "what's wrong"? I replied "exploratory", he said "what does that mean"? In response, amazed with his interest, I said "trying to find something", he quipped "talent"!

A deal for Tom once or Hughes would be great for Southampton. Also since galatasary are interestd a swap deal of sneidjer for Ramirez!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ince or Hughes would be a nice addition. Frankly I want the Ox back! But hell if we were doing a swap deal with Gala then I wouldn't take Sneijder, so past it. Get Kaya in or alike.

Agree0 Disagree0

Snieder is on about £200k a week. Get real

Agree0 Disagree0

What?! You wouldn't take Shneider? Don't get ahead of yourself, he's a quality player that we'd take in heart beat

Agree0 Disagree0

What? What part of "we can't afford Schneidjer" do you not understand? He's on so much a week we could pay for his left foot. Can we get real

Victor M.
this man will not last in this team.
I even think he himself has realised he is not good enough.
he never tries to run with the ball
he always takes the easy option when passing.
and even worse. regularly the easy pass does not go to plan.
sadly he has been found out.

while the rest of the team has grown and improved, he is just not good enough.

and one very strange thing. he NEVER celebrates with the team when we score. all the players run from all over the pitch except him. he is most definitely part of the team spirit/friends ideal we have.
time to look for a replacement.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

After 11 games. He's 22. Sure it's easy to criticise the passing and speed element of his game, but don't forget how much he adds defensively. If you haven't I'd think you aren't looking because it is very apparent. Give him time, he's still developing as a player. 2-3 years he'll be one of the best players of his type. I think we should drop him for 2-3 games and bring Cork in though, to remind him that he does have competition and if he doesn't raise his game, he will be dropped.

Agree0 Disagree0

Victor is still getting used to the Premiership, and of course will make some mistakes. He will get better and better, and the current Saints side will help him out. MP showed yesterday he will make changes when needed and will work with players to iron out faults. Morgan needed a talking to by Adam during the Fulham match after he fell to sleep for 5 minutes-suppose we should sell him too? How about Artur, after Stoke he should go as well?

Think the next couple of games will show us whether there are any true weak links.

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

But tbh Saint Martin, they were both one offs and Wanyama's passing has been consistently hasn't been up to scratch. However the OP is a bit harsh, we're clearly not going to sell him, as he's a great prospect, he just needs a lot of work on his game, but I do agree with the 2nd post, Cork should play instead to show him he has to improve and I would like to see Cork played more anyway, as he was so good last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wasn't it Cork who made a mistake at Sunderland?

Don't get me wrong, I also think Cork is a very good player and being able to bring him on, with Davis and Osvaldo yesterday didn't weaken the team at all, but I think it silly to start criticism of a player after 11 matches in a new team and league. Victor needs to polish up some of his play, but Osvaldo has also found it quite difficult to adapt and he is a top Italian international. MP took Victor off yesterday, he will not leave it there and will help the lad to get it sorted-and what better way than to challenge him to put in the performance of his life next match up against the league leaders? If he can be MOTM against Barca. , then he should have no problem with Barca Lite!

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Again I'd say that Cork's mistake was a one off and he hasn't had the game time that Wanyama has had so it's expected and I definitely wouldn't say Cork weakens the team, if you compare how good Cork was last year, to how Wanyama's been this year, I'd play Cork or at least rotate them, I'm not saying never play him again, just think we should give him more time to adjust before playing him 100% of the time and then hopefully he'll be able to perform as well as he did against Barca!

Agree0 Disagree0

Okay we all love Corky but when big VW goes off who comes on? Steve Davis and he manages to score which is something Corky has never managed to do for us!
I don't think Jack has the bite and aggression MoPo is looking for in that position. Both Steve Davis and VW are hard as nails, Corky is just not that type of player and I don't think he is our type of player any more no matter how much we like him.

Agree0 Disagree0

1. The team has done so well it does mask VW's faults: passing, concentration, speed of premiership etc.
2. It's pretty obvious MoPo won't play Cork. He split the Cork/Spider partnership that did well. He never played them together in pre-season and even when Vic has a mare he won't give Cork a chance.
3. Cork started the move that Davis scored from.
4. JC has had less premier league game time this season than probably anyone else in the first team squad.
5. I take it you mean Cork gave away a free kick against Sunderland? Not the same as being asleep when the goalie passes the ball to you?
Summary: For £12m I expected more than someone who's big and strong, I thought he could play football as well but he's nailed on to start every game whatever. Is that NC's decision, MoPo's or a reflection on the league success? Either way JC is too good a player sit on the bench all year without a hope in hell of getting a chance so if I was him I'd look for pastures new.

Agree0 Disagree0

One point of note: The biggest contribution our record signing has made this season is that his presence in the squad has seen Rickie and Jrod raise their game. I've seen nothing from Osvaldo on the pitch to suggest he should be first choice. Nothing

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Vic had a bad back before the game & was popping pain killers. He made a mistake and we drew the second half. Davis came on to play a more forward role, not a straight swop. I like Big Vic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite like that we have avid support for Jack. I do rate him as a quality player but he has a serious weakness and that is he often commits a foul when trying to win the ball. MP spoke about it last season and I can remember him taking him off to save him being sent off. I'm not saying he is a dirty player, it is just his technique in the tackle. Victor is one of the best ball winners we have and that is what MP was looking for. Morgan can clock up a few yellow cards, and if you have both CDMs on a caution you have a problem. The team keep the ball as much as they can, and when they lose it they work hard to win it back. If during the process of winning it back you commit a foul then the whole process means zero.
MP will look to help Jack sort out that part of his game but he won't ignore it.
No player is too good to add something to his game and we can all see Victor needs some polishing, but how do you think Adam has suddenly found an extra yard of speed? I believe it is not just confidence but the way he is being trained. Same with JWP and set piece deliveries. I believe Jack will be well aware of what he needs to do and I think he is quite capable of coming back in a much stronger player. I would be surprised if he looked for "pastures new", he is an intelligent player and will see that the style of play MP is following is the modern, successful way.

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm just glad we have a player as good as Jack Cork to cover Wanyama and Shneiderlin if we have any injuries or suspensions, and yes JWP's delivery has been insane this year and Lallana's going to Brazil surely!

Agree0 Disagree0

SaintMartin, what a load of rubbish, Poch taking Cork off to prevent him being sent off. Compare Cork's yellow cards to Morgan's. Poch doesn't fancy him, end of. If Big Vic had to have a back injection to play against Hull it further proves Poch doesn't fancy him.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we are talking rubbish, to suggest MP doesn't fancy a player as a reason for him not playing without seeing why MP may have that view-well, that just about fills the bin!

We obviously have different views, but the strength of Victor is that he can be criticised for many things but he certainly is able to win the ball cleanly when required. IMHO that is why we brought him to the club and he is doing that part of the job well. If he can start to utilise the ball as well as he wins it, he will be something really special. With Jack, I do believe the balance of his play is somewhat the other side of the mirror, his distribution is fine but winning the ball is not so good. Which of the attributes gets "fancied" then relates to the strengths of the other players around the position and the style of play MP follows. Think it may have been more likely that Jack played if Morgan had needed the injection.

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

You talk as if you know MP's inner most thoughts but just like pretty much everyone else on here you're offering your opinion and nothing more. What does seem to be fact is that MP doesn't fancy JC. No game time is proof. You like VW, fine but there are quite a few other posts on here questioning his ability. A professional footballer costing £12m who must learn how to pass a ball seems a good reason for fans to wonder is he all that? One Scottish manager recommended Neil Lennon receive a knighthood for getting £12m and none of the regular CL teams seemed interested. Only Cardiff, yes newly promoted Cardiff were interested

Not a rumour for us just an idea. We are priding our selfs on the amount of English talent in our squad which is fantastic. A couple of ideas I had that would improve the squad- man city maybe looking to offload Hart so him or Fraser would be good options to look at for an English keeper. Also maybe keep an eye on Mich Richards situation looking like he maybe leaving. Another one I think we should try and get in on the act is Will Hughes from Derby. Again these are just things I have been thinking about and are by no means rumours.
Alan.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hart - you're insane.
Fraser - is horribly inconsistent. Though I would still take him.
Richards - has said he wants to retire at City. That boy will never leave.
Hughes - Yep, nothing wrong with that. He'd be a good addition.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hart will be on more a week than anyone in the saints squad, lots more. Forster is at Celtic so it's only a matter of time, Fox, Jos, Artur, Big Vic. Maybe Niel Lennon will be our next manager when Poch gets poached?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Hart won't happen but I would like the rest, good english talent, however we have so many CM's so I don't see Hughs coming

Agree0 Disagree0

So replace Boruc, a consistant quality keeper with Hart, the most error prone keeper, who would also command 60k at least a week. Replace Clyne, who is probably not far off a full international cap with Richards, who has a massive ego, massive wages and is injury prone. Will Hughes though would be good!

Agree0 Disagree0

Bring in Rooney, I wish.

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem with getting in loads of English is that it makes it tough to acclimatise any foreign talent we do get in.

At the moment it's great that we have a core of English players, which can be added to from our youth set up. But we also maintain a strong set of players from different cultures. In this way we get the best of both worlds.

I'd actually be concerned to see 8+ of our starting XI being English. You need foreign players in your squad and the ratio has to be inclusive.

Barcelona do it perfectly. About 7 Spanish starters with a few South Americans and an African. Currently we've got 6 English starters with a few Europeans + an African.

Our youth set up will maintain our English core. I just hope we don't leave others feeling isolated and therefore not benefiting from the world of talent out there. You can be too insular in striving to be 'English'.

I thought that in the brief period Osvaldo spent on the pitch he had a great impact!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Same he was very sharp, think he'll be scoring some more soon

I hate the saying THE SOUTHAMPTON WAY!

The saints way? any better?

England's national teams future will be SFC! I said in the summer we were putting together a group of English players that could be the spine of the England team, I think ML and NC has seen Barcelona as the model of success and is molding the English version of the nou camp philosophy, "THE SOUTHAMPTON WAY!". Spain has dominated world football recently, I think a big factor is that they have some of the best Spanish footballers playing at one club, Barcelona, they train and play together almost every day. This is very important since the majority of national teams are at a disadvantage when you get a group of talented players that get thrown together for a few weeks and try to learn a new or simplified team tactics. We have a world class academy that is producing great British footballers. SFC have emphasized a passing game or "the right way to play football" since ML and NC started hiring coaches with this philosophy. We moved up the divisions playing mostly skilful attractive football. We brought great English talent with Clyne and Jrod to add to our English core. Then we add MP who has a reputation for playing the high pressing, passing and ball control that Barcelona plays. MP was the next part of the plan, NA was not. MP shows us last year what a high pressing game can do to the opposition (just ask MCity, Liverpool etc). but we showed defensive fragility, we address that with VIC and LOV, a few tweaks here and there and we now have a team full of talented players who can play with the best of them. We are playing the brand of football that is a joy to watch, THE SOUTHAMPTON WAY! and soon to be the England way if ROY and the FA can see that Southampton can supply the core of the England team!. Now for those who think we can't make CL, I see no reason why not!, we showed last year we can score against and beat the best with a high pressing style but was weak to the counter attack. This year we added team defense as a great attribute, but what I am most impressed with this year is that we dominate most games in possession, meaning we are controlling the game and have confidence to retain the ball. This is a sign of a really good team, we will test ourselves against the top six (Liverpool and Manu were handled nicely) and you we see that we posses a team game that will impose "THE SOUTHAMPTON WAY"!!
