I don't like to be the fan who is negative, but I have seen the saints game against Udinese, and I felt we were very poor in central defence, which is defienatly the main area we need to improve in. I love watching the saints play and think the ethos and our style of play is brilliant, I feel that we need to bring in the players we need to progress into a Europa league position (Our long term aim) and so far the players we have bought are the building blocks to our target. At this moment in time, I have heard many rumours floating around, and the management is very busy in the transfer window, and I would expect to see a few signings in the upcoming week. Let's have a brilliant return to the Premier League, and show we mean buisness :). Saint23

The main problems in preseason is the defence and not finishing our chances, we'll be sharp in front of goal soon enough so I think we need a centre back and a winger would be nice

Getting a bit sick and tired of reading delusional peoples posts saying we dont need to strengthen our squad. I love the saints as much as anybody but we need to make some signings BADLY and not unproven youngsters. the prem is the toughest league in the world and getting battered like that by a somewhat mediocre team like Udinese is far from convincing me that we will have a good season.

Udinese are not a mediocre team. They finished 3rd in one of the toughest leagues around. The Italian Serie A. They finished above teams like Inter Milan, Roma, Napoli and Lazio. All of whom are top quality teams. Inter are better than a lot of the top Premiership sides. You can't say Udinese are a mediocre team they are one of the best in Europe. However yes we do need to make signings definitely a centre back to replace our useless Fonte.

Saints played a full strenght udinese team who are playing champions leauge this year, and i expect they will get to quarters this year. and saints had large posession of the ball, just found it hard against some former world cup winners

Agree2 Disagree0

The problem is we will be playing against CURRENT world cup winners this year! And world class players week in week out we are gonna struggle I don't like to admit it but it's starting to become apparent we aren't strong enough. Two center backs please pronto.

Agree0 Disagree2

We Dont need to beat the teams with world class players only the teams around us and with a couple of signings we will be more than capable at doing so

This is how I c the team for city next week.

Davis
Clyne Fonte Jos Shaw
Davis Morgan ward-prowse
Puncheon lallana
Lambert

1) important the the 3 cms are cms, tackling, defensive, ball winners. Against big teams away we need to be competitive in midfield. The defense also needs protecting by the cms.

2) lallana and puncheon to supply Lambert. City seem to play with wing backs and having 2 wingers can give the likes of clichy and Richards a defensive responsibility but our boys must also track them too.

3) perfect way to blood the youth players in as I'd rather they went into a match that our best team isn't expected to win, so they can go with no fear and be involved from the start.

I think we need to treat the next season like lower league teams approach cup games with top flight sides. I think we should aim for home points and play a slow game on the ball but straight into pressure off the ball. Not allow any breathing space. Then when we're on the ball pass about at the back and push forwards. I reckon we can pull off incredible things if we only get our tactics right. This squad is good. Only hope though that we replace Fonte before the season starts.

Omg that team will get ripped apart in the prem it's a championship team at best.Where is the prem league experience?

Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland is flattered by interest from Southampton.

Birmingham have already turned down a £6million offer from Southampton for their young stopper.

Butland told The Sun: “It’s flattering to know someone was prepared to make that kind of investment in me.

“But Birmingham chose not to accept it and my focus now has to be playing as many games as possible this season.”

Nigel Adkins:
It’s a shame that Blackpool have had to go and do things via the media in the way that they have done,” Nigel explained.

“I don’t think there is any hiding from the fact that Matt is a player that we have been an admirer of for the past few years, and I think in the last couple of weeks he has probably been identified as a target for a number of teams in the Premier League.

“I know that from the Chairman’s point of view he has been in contact with the Blackpool Chairman and that we have had a conversation with their Chief Executive, and I have spoken to Ian Holloway myself, so it’s not as if there has not been an interest demonstrated from Southampton.

“As I have said, we like to think that we do everything properly, by the book and we will continue to do our matters privately and behind the scenes. Obviously this situation has now arisen and we will take action on that and respond in the appropriate manner.”

Saints will not be signing Matt Jarvis after a fee was agreed between Wolves & West Ham - since then he has agreed personal terms and will undergo a medical

Believable3 Unbelievable3

It wasn't accepted. The bid was rejected and West Ham pulled out having seen the price to be too high.

FYI - if you check twitter it has been accepted bid of 10 mill + baldock
