Did anybody watch that? I know we don't want to concede goals but at what cost . Pretty fed up with having to wait for the last game on Match of the Day to see the 30 seconds of highlights . We would still be in Europe if we played a more attacking style, we can do it ( i.e. the Norwich game ) . It was a very poor game by both sides but I suppose it is our way of stabilising a pretty shaky start to the season . One things for certain we can't play like that against United next week we need more invention and today nobody seemed that bothered .

It's not a new problem. Aside from a couple of freak results against Sunderland and Villa, Saints found it hard to score goals last season too.

Which is why I was surprised that they didn't try and bring in a half-decent attacking midfielder in the summer as, although Davis and Ward-Prowse are tidy enough in possession, they bring nothing to the attacking third from open play.

Last season, the creativity burden fell entirely on Tadic and Mane, and the side could barely function if one was out of form or unavailable. Sadly, it looks like this season we'll have the exact same shortcomings. They don't even have any back up creative alternatives, like Elia and Djuricic (as underwhelming as they turned out to be). At least they were options.

On the positive side, defensively, things have settled down a bit more now. Van Dijk strolled through the game in first gear and looked extremely comfortable against a limited opposition. Saints dominated possession and looked the more accomplished side overall. But they were dire up front, a lack of pace, movement, intent - the works. It's a shame Koeman never takes Pelle off no matter how abjectly he plays. Surely the team can adapt to a different style of centre forward, whether it's Long, Rodriguez, Juanmi or Mane through the middle.

Sometimes he's so slow and off the pace that he's just not in the game at all.

Five games into the season and Saints have failed to score in three of them. And I wouldn't be surprised if it's 6:4 after next weekend.

Same old, same old. No firepower. Pelle just taking money under false pretences. We should have brought in someone who can actually score goals during the transfer window.

Thats just ridiculous. He's scored 4 goals so far this season. Everyone is saying we need an attacking midfielder to supply the creativeness which we haven't got yet pelle still scores 4 and you moan about him

A much more sturdier looking defence let down by a poor disjointed attack today. VVD really had Rondon in his pocket all game bar the one chance which should of been flagged offside. The guy can really pass as well, looking forward to seeing him up against a more challenging opposition.

Actually that brings me to the next point which is the ref and linesmen were awful today, personally I couldn't see any contact from Targett against McManaman although he certainly didn't get the ball either, could have easily been called though. But there were a couple of occasions when we were let down from uncalled clear deflections, as well as some tackles and shirt pulling that may have led to chances had they been given.

Biggest problem with our attack was none of the really good crosses in the first half were met bar Jay Rod's miss, and then come second half the crosses were too poor. As for Pelle, I'm sure he'll get a lot of stick tonight, he wasn't in the game at all, but he will come good again.

Got eight days to get the attack sorted for the Man United game now, that's one we really should be winning.

People keep knocking Pelle why? Alright he misses a lot of the chances he gets ( which isn't many! ) but he has no support and let's be honest nobody tries harder than he does . He needs an inventive old fashioned inside forward that can slip the ball to him and he will score , at the moment he is always marked by two players and finds it difficult to find space . It is our attacking midfield at fault as all they do is pass the ball sideways and backwards , pretty and possession football agreed but it gets us nowhere .

I agree. Pretty, possession football doesn't necessarily score goals. Look at yesterday. 65% possession but no goals scored. We either need an alternative to Pelle up the front or a creative midfielder who can unlock defences
