I believe Southampton still want to sign 3-4 players to get the perfect squad, therealistic players to sign a centre back, Centre attacking midfielder, Winger and striker. Saints hope these players will be Frederik Sorensen, Ever Banega, Miroslav Stoch and Leandro Damiao. Anyone else think any other players will join instead?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is it only me that's noticed we've only got one rb!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Stoch is over-rated.

Agree0 Disagree0

What about Chambers, who is a right back/right mid by trade or Jack Cork who can play at right back as can (sort of) Yoshida.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd love lukaku he ripped our deffence apart

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not convinced that "Saints hope these players will be" is correct. I would suggest that these players have been linked to Saints and there has been some agreement from Saints that they are the sort of players they would be interested in. However, I anticipate there could equally be other targets they have kept under the radar that could surprise us.
I am not sure that Saints are demonstrating a more open nature with the media. Think it is much more likely to be a bit of smoke and mirrors.

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree cover at rb is definitely needed

Agree0 Disagree0

Knowing how extensive Saints scouting system is, did you ever think that Saints are watching players for January or even next season? We've already seen us sign players that we were previously linked with, so it wouldn't surprise me if next year we sign players that we've been linked with this summer - Nainggolan or Lamela for example

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt we'll sign a 4th DM in Naingollan Lamela maybe, don't think we need that many just 3, CB, Winger + Striker, experienced CB, young winger with potential and a proven goal scoring striker then that would be perfect

Agree0 Disagree0

I follow all the rumours and get very excited about certain players being linked with us, and I'm pretty sure that the persistent rumours supported by media are pretty good, Damiao, Banega etc. At no point do I think about are they the right players? are they cover? do we need another CB or DM? What I have faith in is, that Saints with their set up will have all the bases covered, they will know a shed load more than any of us, just exactly what we need and where.
What I'm really waiting for are the 'surprise' signings, the ones that nobody knew about, remember we have a huge scouting team in East Africa now, plus the far East. It may end up with just the 2 signings this window, but then we top up in January.
My last thought is, we will sign Damiao and Banega

What does everyone think about CB now? I thought Forren would be our pairing with Lovren, but obviously not, do we think we need a new CB or not? And if so experienced or young and up and coming?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd like to see Sorensen come in

Agree0 Disagree0

What do the eds think out of interest?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Michael Dawson is a good shout, would love Anderwield though

anyone know of any replacements for forre I've seen kurt ouma but personally I think we should go for toby alderwield your views?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Michael Dawson, could get him for 5-6m, would be good experience for our young defence

Agree0 Disagree0

Not going to happen. We don't invest in experience. We invest in the up and coming and use what's already here to show the experience. Yoshida, Hooiveld, Fonte, Shaw, Clyne and Fox have a full season of Premiership football behind them and Lovren has seen plenty of top action abroad. Experience is not a major issue for us currently.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree, as we have a very young team, which hasn't got many leaders in our ideal starting 11 are there? We need some experienced players, which is why Michael Dawson would be good

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see us signing Dawson as he does not fit in with our transfer policy because he is too old. We are likely to sign a young CB in a similar mould to Lovren. Under 25, represent their country and pref Champions League experience. Sorensen has two of the three criteria.

Optimistic Saint

Agree0 Disagree0

Our team has those leaders though. Regardless of Premiership experience, Fonte, Davis (Both Steve and Kelvin), Boruc, Lambert and I suppose one or two others really can be considered locker room leaders who are the reason the team did stay up last term. We have the level headed experience we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dawson ain't exactly the quickest of defenders might as well just play hooseveild there as they have about the same amount of pace. this for me ain't going to happen!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dawson is much better than Hoiveld, he would balance our team I think he'd be perfect, and we don't just sign young players, Steve Davies and Boruc aren't young

Agree0 Disagree0

Kurt Zouma is a Beast! excellent prospect that will go right to the top of the game if handled right.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes but Stephen Davis and Boruc were both free.

Agree0 Disagree0

Davis was not "free"

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok we payed a small bit of compensation but they were virtually free

Luke Shaw has to be worth between 20m - 30m now, absolute cracking piece of business from the don.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well Chelsea will undoubtedly be the eventual buyers, and they're people enough to buy a left back for £25 million. So yeah probably. Hell, if Baines is worth £18 million at 28.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chelsea will not be the undoubted buyers. With Mourinho at the helm they may not wait until Shaw is in a position to leave us to sign a new left back who is young.

Agree0 Disagree0

Next summer Chelsea will bid £20 million for him and Shaw will ask to leave. Childhood club and would be first choice because Cole will retire I think.
£20-30 million for potentially the worlds best LB.

Agree0 Disagree0

"I've been here since I was eight and I've loved every single moment of it. I want to stay at this Club, and signing this contract means I'm here for another five years. "

Suggest you Chelsea "persons" ask your nannies to explain this statement to you as you seem to have such difficulty grasping the meaning of straight forward statements!

Agree0 Disagree0

What some people seem to fail to understand is that Southampton are building a squad that in a couple of years will challenge for a European place. The majority of our squad is 24 or under, with a few exceptions such as Lambert, Jose Fonte, Guly etc.

These players have been great servants to the club, but their days are numbered, with Saints already bringing in Lovren, as well as bidding for the likes of Damiao.

Players like Shaw, JWP, Clyne, Wanyama, Rodrigues and Schneiderlin are the foundations of the squad that in a couple of years will be up there with the top 6 sides.

This is the dream that's being sold to the players, and one thing Saints fans know from experience is that when 'The Don' says he's going to do something, it happens.

So why would Luke Shaw want to go anywhere when he will already be playing for a big club and challenging for honors?

The future's bright, the future's red and white!

Agree0 Disagree0

Doubt Ashley Cole will retire end of this season. He's only 32. Could well leave Chelsea but would of thought Jose would want to keep him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Um straight forward statements? that's pr, it means nothing, I am sure gaston would say I want to stay at this club but when man city or any other big club come in he'll be off quicker than you can cry because he said he wants too stay.

It means nothing. It's pr.

Sure he wants to be here now and I am glad, but how many games would he be playing if he went to chelsea now? It's in his best interests to stay for maybe 2 definitely one season.

Why when he's the best left back in world would he want to stay at a mid table club, that statement means nothing when he is being offered first team football at better clubs. The only way to keep him past the next two or three years is to grow with the player. Which I think it's the only reason he has stayed because there could be growth at the club.

Im only targetting this at the, post saying people can't grasp lukes statement, I don't think it applies to anyone else.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shaw has been approached by these big clubs though, and if he wanted to he'd have forced his move by now. He wants to be a saint for the future and that is why he has signed the 5 year deal. He has been here from an early age do not forget that. We've been influencing him for most of his life and he likes being here.

Mourinho will run out of patience I think next summer (assuming he doesn't before then) and snap up a new left back who is also young and Chelsea will drop the whole Shaw thing all together.

Agree0 Disagree0

Luke has been at the club since he was 8 ie 10 years!

I suspect he has a pretty good idea whether the club will have the growth he would like, before he signs a contract. What makes you think Chelsea will be any sort of attraction in a year or two, they could have all sorts of problems?

Yes, any club that has a number of talented young players will have other clubs after them. If the club is successful and the players have developed with the club they will stay. Morgan could have left some years ago but he stayed with the club through L1 and now into the Premiership, so it is not unknown for talented players to show loyalty-and that is quite different to PR.

Agree0 Disagree0

Morgan was sensible by believing Saints would get back to the premier league. Southampton Football Club will never be threatened by relegation again as long as the most intelligent chairman in the Premier League (Cortese) stays in charge. Remember top class football is big business and he is a top class business man. Still can't get my head round why everybody wants managers like Harry the Hood those days are gone. Our manager MP will be one of the most wanted men in Europe but mainly thanks to the shrewd business sense of Cortese. Give it about 3 to 4 years and players from all over the world will want to play for us. Why can't we emulate Liverpool, Chelsea etc. I know lots of players want to play for London clubs but we are only 68 miles away from Stamford Bridge. Could be dreams but just have a feeling.

I'd love us to sign Michael Dawson from Spurs, I reckon he'd only 6-7m, and we need some experience in our young side, he fits the bill well being a left footed CB, he's not 100% in favour with AVB and I think Caulker and Vertongon will be prefered to him, he'd be a great signing, which I think we need as I'm not convinced by Hoiveld, I think Fonte and Yoshida have been ok, but have both had dodgy moments, I think the combination of Lovren and Dawson could be great, as well as signing a winger and a striker by then end of the window! Ince/Moses/Sinclair and Damaio/Adrian COYR!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd much prefer it if we spent the £6m on Caulker tbh, rather than spending that much on a 29 year old. However I agree we need some experience at the back

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't be able to get Caulker for 6m? Are you mad, he on of the best young English CB's, he'll be in Spurs' first team next year!

Agree0 Disagree0

Got enough centre backs now: Lovren, Yoshida, Fonte, Hooiveld, Turnbull, Stephens

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't think Hooiveld is good enough. Managed 4 own goals last season (Only 3 of which actually got credited to him). He needs replacing. Also would be concerned about Stephens or Turnbull stepping up too soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

You say that but I think Hoiveld isn't up to it, Stephens, Turnball and Martin are probably not ready yet if not give them a go, therefore I think we need at least 4 good enough CB's and one with experience who can lead our back 4 and I really think Michael Dawson would be perfect for us!

Agree0 Disagree0

He did play most games for them last season though, so they probably wouldn't want to sell him

Agree0 Disagree0

I think shawcross would be better.
