Doubt we were in for him and even if we were I'm not disappointed he is 30, his position is AMC which we don't even need

Wat time is this verdu conference gunna happen

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It s not
like the tom ince rumour
although I would like to
see tom ince at saints

Agree0 Disagree0

He's had conference and said he will decide his future within the next few days. don't mean if he does come to saints it will be announced!

Agree0 Disagree0

It happened at midday today (thursday). It was an anti-climax: just to announce he would be leaving Espanyol at the end of the month so would be available on a free.

Hope that's what you were referring to : )

Somebody suggested on here yesterday that southampton may be in for joan verdu of espanyol. i'm in that region of spain and saw a press conference on local tv and verdu has rejected a new contract with espanyol and will leave 30th june when current contract expires. There was no mention of a new club but he said he will decide on his future in the next few hours or days (his words) hopefully saints will tempt him!

With regards to all the comments below, the most obvious fact is the almost complete lack of rumours in the press about Southamptons transfer activity.

Suggests to me that pretty much none of the below have much credibility. Lovren perhaps. Diego Castro perhaps. Douglas no.

That indicates that the Board want to keep things quiet for the time being, maybe signing players later in the summer, so the club doesn't have to pay wages for nothing.

Not expecting much activity. Certainly a first team forward, a winger and a first team centre half must be priorities. Maybe signing 3 first teamers and a couple of younger, squad players.

Lovren fits the bill in defence

I think Douglas is a realistic idea. He's a free agent and highly rated and will want first team football in a top league to show he's got what it takes for the Dutch national side so a move to Southampton could easily be sold to him by the likes of Cortese if he is interested in Douglas coming. I know I would be if in Cortese's position.

I also think we are likely to sign at least 5 new players this summer. I agree maybe 3 who would be pretty much first team guaranteed but we'd go for more depth this time around I predict so maybe signing players to fill positions and provide competition. I expect this summer may be quite expensive with a potential for signings to mount to near £50million with Cortese and Pochettino probably already trying to seal deals early to reduce competition for signings and hope to get bargains as the later in the window tends to see prices rise until you get the deadline day rush where some bargains fall into peoples hands but that is more luck than much else.

Depending on which source you read, Manchester United want Baines and Shaw or Baines OR Shaw.
Utd continue to be linked with a £10 million bid for Shaw.

The United story stems from comments made by Irwin, who is employed by Manchester United ( sounds unprofessional to comment in public)

However, the United interest seems to depend on whether or not Evra moves to Monaco. If Evra leaves OT, it would be more logical for Utd to want a more experienced replacement, such as Baines.

Chelsea and Arsenal also linked with Shaw. {Ed052's Note - If United sign an LB, Baines would be likely}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I really can not see Shaw ever joining United. He'd choose Chelsea if he ever were to be sold. Although I doubt he'll be sold for a long time and when he is it'll probably be more than £20million.
