I am happy with the signings we have made so far, hopefully with 2/3 more to come. But I still look back at the players we have let slip. Will Buckley for £2.5 million would've been a great price in a position we need but now he's gone to sunderland. Frazier Campbell could've filled the void just taken over by Long. But at £11mill less as he went to Palace for just £900k. Jordon Mutch would've been a great asset playing off the striker too. Does anyone feel like we've missed certain players too? Or have we bought in the perfect replacements?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with some of the players you listed, Mutch would've been another CM a position we don't need players in, it's the same situation with Rodwell, you can add Darlow, Lascelas, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Cresswell, Caulker, the list goes on, but I'm personally very happy with the player we've signed and think we'll be fine next season

Jordan Mutch is class, however I would rather shoot myself than support Frasier Campbell. Not a team player and is always diving.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't get why people care so much about the money for Long. it's not come out of your pocket! and he is a far better player than Campbell!

Agree0 Disagree0

Long was 8 upfront with another 4 in performance related fees, so if he ends up costing us 12 i'll be happy

Last season I got lucky and predicted that Saints would end up with 56 or 57 points in 7th or 8th.

This season I predict that we'll do almost as well, and end up on 54 points in either 8th or 9th.

What do you guys think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Very difficult to say at this stage, especially as we haven't seen the team all together with the new signings and everything. But this team has the potential to do better than last season, but gelling will take some time so I reckon a top half finish 8/9

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm going to be a bit ambitious and perhaps unrealistic and say 7th 61 points, I think our team is just as strong but we have more depth too, our lack of depth is what cause our bad form after getting to 3rd, but then again it will take our players a while to settle and adjust

I will be happy with staying up, cause a few upsets and have a run in the cups. consolidate this year and then push on next year

Not a rumour as such but I saw that Hull are going in for Wellbeck who apparently has no future at OT under LVG. If true I guess our purchase of Long has funded Hull's purchase of an England international which makes great sense.

I've no problem with that. It's only Welbeck. If he played for any club other than United, he would not be in the England squad.

So Spider is ready to play (if selected) and a couple of players still needed especially a winger.

If this comes true I think we'll be well content!

Roko has been excellent in the way he has handled the media. All bares will for a successful season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Love the way he just laughed at the journo who mentioned relegation haha

Just heard a premiership transfer report on BBC sport.
Schniderlain has verbally agreed with southampton that he can move to spurs if a suitable offer comes in.
Saints rate him at about £25-30million.

Ronald Koeman said Schneiderlin is not for sale at the press conference this afternoon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not for sale full stop!!

Why did BBC Sport not wait until they had attended the RK press meeting? They could have then reported fact rather than speculation-oh, silly me, it was the BBC!

Verbal agreements mean jack

I make it 27 of our 54 goals actually.

Jay Rodriguez 15
Rickie Lambert 13
Adam Lallana 9
Steven Davis 2
Dani Osvaldo 3
Gastón Ramírez 1
Jose Fonte 3
Maya Yoshida 1
Sam Gallagher 1
Dejan Lovren 2
Morgan Schneiderlin 2

Another striker would be nice though.

Koeman said Schneiderlin is back and training well, Cork still training and looking happy (from the pics SFC uploaded) and with our new signings, our squad is really coming along now. Would like to see a defender and a winger join by the end of the window and I will be a very happy saint!

Saints looking to bring in one or two more players before the window shuts.
Definitely a winger.

Really pleased about the new signings, Long and Gardos both seem really happy to be here and look like good additions to the squad, I think in particular it's good to get proven players like Long as it also builds up the core of our team and I think it's important to have an English (or Brittish) core of players which I think we're building towards, now another CB and I'd be very happy with our transfer business, Shawcross would be perfect as we need leaders too and if we're being fussy I wouldn't mind a RB and RW too, and for them Byram and Redmond are ideal, then we would definetly look stronger than last year in my eyes anyway

A bit picky I know but Long is not British.

15 Aug 2014 21:25:31
Well, he is from the British Isles, I suppose.

Well I suppose stretching the description I suppose we can allow that lol. However the Republic of Ireland is an independent country and uses the euro as it's currency. Don't know why but that is what they decided. Honestly though watched the interview with Shane Long and although he was much too much money let's give him a chance, got a feeling it is going to be a bad decision to buy him but I would love to be wrong. The one thing you will get from him is 100% commitment and with what's happened recently we need that desperately.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just as an add on if you asked him if he was British he would reply " No I'm f. ing Irish.

Every cloud has a silver lining. Pulis resigns so hopefully that will stop Corky jumping ship to Palace, sign a new contract and fight for a starting place.
One more CB and a pacy winger and I think we'll be competitive

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, Redmond and a proven CB would be great

Agree0 Disagree0

Go for Redmond and a CB and we are nearly there. Keep Spider!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree too, Cork should stay, especially seeing as we have had no bids come in for him. A Winger in Redmond/Lens and CB by the end of the transfer window would be good. A cover RB too in an ideal world.

Agree0 Disagree0

Redmond is perfect for us, 1 more CB and I would even go as far as saying we've had a good window

Keep cork he is an unsung hero but another cb needed Dawson maybe? And another striker as we don't have a 15-20 goal a season striker yet and how we Guna be lining up up front when jrod back? I'm thinking long pelle jrod thoughts guys

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I like Dawson a lot and we do need leaders and he could provide a short term solution for us, or we could go for someone a bit younger, maybe Richards as he'd cover RB too or Shawcross would be a quality signing

Agree0 Disagree0

Shawcross/Vlaar/Dawson all good leaders. Don't know if Shawcross would leave, Stoke look a good team this season, would have to offer him big wages

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2014 01:01:16
Agree SaintJamie, Stoke have done some very good business. Are they more fashionable than us, wouldn't have thought so. Must say that Mark Hughes seems to have been able to attract players there that we seem to struggle to get. Very strange.

Really pleased with the two new lads. Gardos looks solid and Long will cause a lot of problems with his pace and chase every cause attitude. Really looking forward to the Scousehampton game and expect Long to play. I wonder if we'll be signing anyone else now. Like most i'd be happy with another CB and a pacey winger. Belhanda perhaps? He's still not signed for Besiktas.
