Wot my opinion is is that we have just got new signings
and they need time to settle and i expected to lose to
man c man u and arsenal
and in some respect wigan was never a god given
we should have got players in sooner than later but that has already gone we need to just suppourt our team and it will come together

Believable6 Unbelievable3

Spot on. It wasn't Walsall at home! Arsenal away, City away and Man Utd at home - not many teams would have performed as well as us or picked up any points. I'd rather make mistakes against teams you expect nothing from than lose games against teams we're in the mix with. Wigan has been underlined as a disaster - but they had won 7 out of their last 10 matches prior to playing us, including Liverpool and Chelsea - that's league winning form. Don't listen to the pundits - most had us and Wigan down which I think is way off the mark.

Let's be honest, 6-1 at the Emirates can happen to anyone. They played well and had a lot of run.

You hit the nail on the head, we needed the signings earlier and I think we do need a LB. I expect a good clear out next summer. Hopefully Yoshida is good and can sure things up at the back. Time will tell but I think we'll be fine once the new players have had a chance to train and we get some middle-order teams to play.

I am really disappointed with the attitude of some of the plastic fans being so negative. I'm sure most teams would be bottom after having our fixtures. At least we have had some decent football, goals and good performances. Anyone who calls for Adkins' head is a moron. Yes I agree, he has made some tactical errors, all managers do throughout the season. But at least we can be sure that Adkins' will learn by them and I believe he'll grow into a great Premiership manager. We'll murder Villa! COYR!

Great post above, the season will start against Villa Saturday, so all you guys who have got rid of Lambert and Lallana in your dream teams, watch out, Lallana and Lambert are due some luck, Isnt Lambert second top EPL scorer (who is English)

Agree2 Disagree1

Dont forget we were always leaky in defence in league 1 and the championship, i truly believe we need a top class defensive coach employed to work on our back line Adkins is a decent manager but he needs better coaching staff alongside him.

That is the best post I've read in a long time (Walsall at home). We all need to stay positive and have faith in the man that has brought us so much success in such a short space of time. It's a steep learning curve for all concerned, including nc but we'll get there. One or two signings (lb and cb) in jan and we'll be laughing! COYS

Youll go down with the least points in history, cant see any team you will beat, long hard season Im afraid.

we all know that pompey will go down with the least points in history you don't have to keep telling us that lol

Even arsenal lost to united something like 6-2

Tottenham had 2 points from 8 games and ended up the the Champions league a couple of seasons ago thank you very much

8-2 happly been corrected

Arsenal suffered 8-2 jokes 4-3 weeks after losing to Blackburn by gifting them 2 own goals!

Ok, so there weren't an awful lot of positives to take from the match on Saturday but I have to say that Ramirez looked excellent. He looks extremely strong on the ball - at one point he just brushed past 3 players, and his defence splitting pass to Lambert was the highlight of the match for me. His ease on the ball, loping style and quick brain reminded me of a young Le God. Season starts against Villa. I'm still confident we will have no trouble staying up this season.

The reason everyone is having a laugh at your expense is because you have the most arrogant and deluded fans in the country. You spent the whole summer mouthing off about how you were going to take the prem by storm dissing every other team in the bottom half. Arsenal done to you what city and united would do to you nine times out of ten. Fair play to you for two very enjoyable games, but no points to show from the first four games wont keep you in the prem. I am a neutral football fan who does not support portsmouth or reading. I enjoy reading all the differant club sites opinions especially spurs and liverpool ( dont support either ) who both have thier own problems but are honest and constructive with their posts.

Every club has deluded and arrogant fans,I think most genuine saints fans knew it would be hard this season, but are task has been made even harder with the lack of spending on a very poor defence, every saints fan can see it and we did last year so why can't na and nc,I'm afraid it's going to be a normal season of struggling back in the premiership as we won't and can't out score teams in this league.

Agree13 Disagree4

We can survive this season. Granted things haven't gone well so far but the saints have had a tough opening to the season. They just need to pull themselves together and really compete for every ball and just try to pose more of a threat. They keep being caught out of position which is clearly a lack of experience problem. This is all very frustrating for us as saints fans because we know the club is better than a 6-1 loss to Arsenal. Granted they are not better than Arsenal but they shouldn't be loosing by so much to anyone.

Agree4 Disagree12

Bit harsh seeming we played 1st, 2nd and 3rd first season in?

Agree7 Disagree11

He who laughs last... Neutral football fans are a myth, fact! Why mention Reading? I've only encountered mutual respect between Reading/ Saints fans. Are you just another bitter Brighton fan? Personally, i wish Saints fans had been more positive during the whole summer instead of 'arrogantly' and 'deludedly' dissing the alleged under-spending of Adkins/Cortese. Anyway, HRF, you are obviously a hater so i suggest you don't read our site or at least make your posts 'honest' and 'constructive'.

Another person jumping the gun.

If we had been completely outplayed every game I could agree we're in trouble. Arsenal were excellent, we weren't great, but there was a lot of fortune in at least 3 of those goals. At least we scored, that's more than Liverpool could do at home or anyone else this season.

What is deluded or arrogant about responding to uninformed dipsticks that have come on here saying we're going down? Facts are, SFC has a fantastic infrastructure, facilities and a lot of money - it is not arrogant to say we will not go down and we will push on to compete at the top of the table. The chairman has stated his intent from the start and been good to his word. We showed our intent with the signing of Ramirez. The thing is, we have gone for some of European football's hottest talent but not paid over the odds or splashed money around carelessly like QPR, City etc. There is a nucleus of good players and the key to our success has been team spirit.

I still believe we'll push on despite our apparently disastrous start having lost to awful teams like Man City, Arsenal and United in our 4 first fixtures.

Everyone having a laugh at our expense? We are in the Premier League. I think most people are having a laugh at Pompeys expense to be honest. It will be a hard season, but we can get through it. I seem to remember Tottenham were in this position after a few more games a couple of seasons ago and they ended up in the champions league.

Ok lets get a few things in perspective yes Arsenal turned us over, but they beat Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield and they have seasoned premier league defenders, we are week at the back and were not helped by hooiveld injury,i wonder if he was fit to start but had to play as it would have meant playing a new center back pairing against one of the best attacking teams we will face. But we are scoring goals and playing some good football, so i believe that things are still on track for survival

Believable4 Unbelievable3

We are capable of staying up but only if we learn to defend. We were all over the place against Arsenal but I believe that part of Hooiveld's problem is that he's playing next to Fox who every attacker passes as if he wasn't there.
As others have said, we all new our defence wasn't good enough and we need to put this right. We can attack and score but we cannot keep trying to out-score our opponents.
The other thing we need is a dedicated defensive coach. Arsenal brought in Bould and it's worked a treat....What is Adams doing these days?

Can anybody explain to me what is wrong with 4,4,2 formation we keep experimenting with other formations and playing people out of positions. Look i love lambert but him upfront by himself is just a waste of time and effort. I hate to say it but in theory our transfer stratagies of buying young unproven at premier league level players maybe a big flop.We needed to spend that 20 million odd in other way important areas we let too many good cheap experienced players get snapped up from under our noses.

Believable8 Unbelievable4

The main problem this time wasn't the lone striker it was the fact we didn't have any pace up in the final 3rd for the vast majority of that game. Puncheon isn't too quick he's just good with his feet as is Lambert with a solid shot. We needed a Tadnari Lee, Gaston Ramirez or just any one with genuine pace. This was an error this game and things just didn't go our way. It says a lot when Clyne looks bad at right back. He was brilliant in all the other 3 games even with his stud troubles against United. But VS Arsenal he was all over the place. As was the rest of the defence. Not even Kelvin Davis managed a good performance. Sometimes things just can't go your way.
