Osvaldo is on his way.

Good 3 points today. Not many teams will roll WBA in their own backyard.

If we get another cb and am we will have a class side and we certainly should be aiming for Europe.

Hopefully a wembley appearance would be sweet also

We are not likely to hit Europe this season, but if we play like that every week we'll be pretty close. I think we need a striker our defence is looking good now.

LAAAAAMBERRRRT! First win for Saints!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Winning on the opening day!
Away from home with no goals conceded. Plenty of academy players continuing to impress. All against a side we struggled to deal with throughout last season.

Fantastic result. Bring on the rest.

Agree0 Disagree0

That was a great win for us, let's keep going and push for top 10 COYR - saint mw

Agree0 Disagree0

If Rickie has done the lottery for tonight, we might as well rip up our tickets now!

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Need the killer finisher and watch what him and Ramirez can do to the others by linking up.

Nice one st Martin!!

Everyone saying looks like we have missed out on Osvaldo. How do you know we were ever in for him? Papers and agents do make things up you know. These 'Sources' the media outlets claim to have are wrong a lot of the time. People need to stop believing everything they read

Saint IQ

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If I'm not mistaken we had a bid accepted by his club and that source was his club?

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you REALLY believe Italian clubs tell the truth, anymore than Italian politicians or Italian football agents?LOL

Bigger = What. ? It is a question with no reason - no validity and no purpose. Celtin are a very big fish in a small pons Southampton are a small fish in a lake. If my Auntie had b******* she would be my Uncle. As a Saints fan Southampton are a massive part of my life. if I were Scottish, then Celtic would be, and are massive. Very pleased that be have Wanyama. he is excellent and. Thank You Celtic. There is room for all of us to love the one we are with.

We shouldn't lower our ambitions, but we should chose the right targets and sign stars like Ramirez and Wanyama who are class signings who are obvious star playing for smaller clubs (no disrespect to Celtic or Bologna but to there players the pull of the Prem and our project is enough) or players like Lovren who is at a big club like Lyon but isn't playing regularly (only 18 appearances last season) who has obviously got a lot of potential and would be willing to move to an up and coming club for first team football and to work towards our project, players like Obsvaldo and Banega are playing first team football for big teams like Roma and Valencia both are class but are older than other players we have looked at so would rather continue playing first team football in the champions/europa league while they can, and Damiao I think could come but I doubt his team are looking to sell him till after the world cup so again isn't going to happen, we should be looking at Kouyate, Boudebouz, Firminio, Anderwield (not saying we're a bigger team than Ajax but the pull of playing in the prem would make him want to come I think), Wellington Nem, Hiroshi Kiyotake, Honda, Lacina Traore, Patric Herman, even from the championship Ince, Rhodes, Mcmanaman, Phillips and maybe even Antonio are young with a lot of potential although they would be more costly and probably wouldn't add as much initially although they do have the potential to do so. Hopefull we gut a couple of players before the deadline, a striker/winger and a CB would be great and then I think we can serriously challenge for a top 8 position, at the mo I think we could get top 10, get ready for a great season everyone! COYR!!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't expect 3 more signings, at most 2 but most likely only 1 more to come. It'll likely be more fire power up front but we hopefully will look for a player who has something to prove and the right attitude as well as top level talent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wellington nem has gone to shaktar

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to hand it to him, the OP keeps singing the same song. Shame it is so far away from what Saints will do.

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic fan here. Came on to ask how Wanyama played today. Big fan of him and I think its only a matter of time before he moves on.
A bit miffed at the comment about Southampton being bigger than Celtic. Never in a million years!

Henriks tongue

Agree0 Disagree0

I hand it to you, Saint Martin and St Christopher, for having the patience to respond to these posts, especially the bs about Sinclair below.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, Henriks tongue, he played pretty well and looks as if he will get better still. Think he found the last 15 minutes a bit tough and he will have to accept that will be the intensity EVERY week. Once he has that on board he will be a real handful.
Your remark about him moving on is a little insulting. Saints started the game today with three 18 year old players (all English internationals already) developed within our academy. This side is going to be a real threat to the top 6 pretty soon-and if we need to spend £5m on a player (or even 4 or 5 times that) to complete our squad we will do so and not worry about childish concerns as to whether ours is bigger than someone else's!

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic a smaller club? Behave mate. They play in a crap league yes but are one of the biggest clubs in the world. No disrespect to you but if they played in a better league NO 1st team player for Celtic would move to Southampton. That is a fact!. martyc

Agree0 Disagree0

Martyc. respect, but with all the goodwill in the world you and the fellow great supporters of Celtic FC (and I mean that) are living in the past. Qualifying for the Champions League in Scotland is 20 times easier than it is down on the South Coast. We may do it in 3 to 4 years if our plan comes together. As you know in the EPL it is all about money. Sky TV saw to that.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think weather it's harder or not in our league doesn't really make a difference to how big the club is, like arsenal are a bigger club than B Dortmund, but Dortmund are regularly in the champions league, I think Celtic are probably a "bigger club" than saints are right now, just look at the history. 2 years ago we were league 1 and before then, even when we were in the prem league we weren't exactly pushing for the title, maybe different in a few seasons (I hope so)! But Celtic are a great club and have some fantastic support

Agree0 Disagree0

Respect to you too mate and no disrespect meant but I'm just responding to the smaller team comment. Nobody can possibly think that Celtic are a smaller team than Southampton. A team is defined by its support and we are one of the best supported teams in the world and have fans from all corners of the world as all massive clubs do. Southampton will only have fans in England. Smaller league and smaller country yes 100% but smaller club not in a million years. That said, good luck for this year I really hope you do well as I want to see big Victor doing well and think you have a good progressive club and manager. martyc

Agree0 Disagree0

We will never be as big as Celtic in tems of are fan base and supporters but we are growing and our squad is a lot better than theirs. Wanyama has impressed me every time he has played so far, was in our top 3 players today along with our other signing Lovren and obviously the future England star Luke Shaw

Saint IQ

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll shake your hand on that. Maybe one day we'll have a chance to share the British League I think, where we can at least go head to head and have a bit of real banter. Have a good season, almost impossible to have a bad one! That's what I mean. Cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

P. S. You Scots get everywhere, how do you do that?

Agree0 Disagree0

One thing for sure is that the combined value of the saints squad is probably at least 4 times that of Celtic right now. Celtic are a selling club, buying in good prospects and turning a profit on them.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the point here is thst Celtic and Southhampton are both pretty much development clubs. You have some great young talent but do you honestly believe you will hold on to it when man city, man utd, spurs, arsenal or chelsea come knocking? Same for celtic. Wanyama was class for us but was never going to stay. By no stretch is southhampton a bigger club, but you are in a bigger league playing glamerous games each week. If your young guys play well they will get picked off by the big teams, which is a shame but that's life I guess. Hope big vic turns out as well ascwe all think he will, and turns you a nice profit in a year or two.
Neilbhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic fan if you have respect for our club I don't know why you bite and make comments about the size of our club because of a couple of silly remarks by our fans.

There are muppets on the internet. Deal with it. If you have respect you'll just role your eyes like the rest of us and not argue about it with normal Saints fans. Shhhh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Neilbhoy : I think it's just plain silly to argue that Celtic are not a bigger club but you are wrong to still describe Saints as a 'development' club. Yes, we were in the past but since the arrival of our chairman, Nicola Cortese, we are definitely not. Until England's future left back, Luke Shaw, signed a new 4 year contract a few weeks ago, Chelsea fans were saying exactly the same as you and were adamant he would sign for them. He's even a Chelsea fan ffs. My main gripe with fans of bigger clubs is their snobbery/arrogant opinion that their position is unassailable. My most anxious moment in this window was not that we would lose any of our best players but that Cortese may resign over an alleged dispute with our owners. Whilst he remains at the helm, Vic will not be leaving, ignoring, of course, Real knocking at the door with £85M+ in their pockets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely shake in that mate as certainly no bad intention or arrogance meant. I just think Celtic are a bigger club and I think most would agree. However I do think Vic has chosen the right club to join as he had to prove himself in a better league where you are tested every week unlike Celtic who unfortunately only get tested in CL and I think Saints are a building a really good team. Good luck for this year and hope to see you push for Europe. martyc

Agree0 Disagree0

We Scots get everywhere because of the Highland clearances where the english parliament gave rich landowners in scotland tax breaks to clear people from thier land and raise sheep, They hoped it would cut down the likely hood of another uprising against the state and help fuel the need for immagrants in USA austaralia new zealand canada south africa etc.

looks like we have missed out on obsvaldo, which is probably for the best as he comes with a lot of baggage despite him being a class player, I think we need a striker but should be ok as I think J-Rod will score a lot more this year and take some pressure of Lambert and hopefully Mayuka will step up and get some goals and then we've always got Billy Sharp who I think if given a chance could be a great super sub! I don't think we have enough wide players though, as we have Lallana, Punch and Jay who can play there, Isgrove can and I hope he is in given an opportunity but he may not be ready and we have Guly but we all know he can be a bit hot and cold there even though he did well last year and ofcourse Ramirez can play there too but he's best down the middle. I'd like someone young and exciting like Firmino or Wellington Nem who we've been linked to in the past but even someone like Callum Mcmanaman would be a great signing or I'd love either of Thomas Ince or Matt Phillips, we need someone to play there and we should be ok but like I said if Isgrove is ready we should give him a chance!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Really? I'm hearing that Osvaldo signing has been completed!

i would like it if we signed sinclair, kouyate, boudebouz and kyle naughton. Should be able to sign all of them for less than ozvaldo and would strengthen our team across the park and would provide depth and competition for places in the starting 11. All of them are young, hungry and I feel they all share our clubs ambition.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes to 2 of the first 3 no to the 4th, we don't need Naughton as we have Cork, Chambers, Yoshida and Clyne who can cover RB and Clyne, Fox (although I'd rather he didn't play), possibly Taggart and Shaw to cover LB, so I think we're pretty well covered there and we don't need to sign 2 wingers we only need one and either of sinclair or boudebouz would be great signings but may not need them if Isgrove is ready to play for the first team and Kouyate would be a class signing

i think jordan rhodes or chris wood would both be good young strikers to sign young good goalscoring record in the championship and could break them into the squad in cups?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

At chris woods age lambert was scoring in a 1/4 of his games in the football league division 3 for macclesfield chris wood is scoring in half of his games in the championship and has a scoring ratio not much smaller than lambert was for us in the championship, chris wood would be great for us and would be an improvement imo

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd love Jordan Rhodes he was one of the top scorers last season and is a class young player with a lot of potential he'd be ideal, wouldn't mind Callum Mcmanaman either
