Ok, moving forward what ideal transfers would people like to see in January?

Assuming maybe we have a budget of 15-20 million but maybe less than this with Financial FairPlay to consider, I would like to see 3 signings. Firstly a striker with BPL experience on loan with a view to purchase, perhaps Borini if Liverpool are still looking to offload him, depends on wages and admittedly he's a big gamble anyway. Adam Johnson in to liven up our right wing would be a big capture, but maybe priced out of this one, so the return of Nathan Dyer?

A central playmaker that gets in between the lines a la David Silva is the most important purchase I'd like to see. Anyone know of a player like that out there?

Just need to pass faster and shoot more often in the final 3rd - that would solve a lot of issues.
Mane to beat the wide player then deliver the ball to the strikers feet or to the gap between keeper and fron player.
Long to have some shots with true venom.
Mauyuka - that's got me beaten - i don't know.
Note to all - strike the ball hard and low goals will come.

Firstly we have to get players that can get the ball into the positions you are talking about. I remember early in the season we had our midfield players having a go from outside the box, where are they now. Just another point, take the 12 goals away from our goals for tally that we scored against Sunderland and Newcastle and it is then pretty obvious that our problem is scoring goals. We are not creating anything in the final third of the field which is almost a carbon copy of what was happening this time last season. Something has got to give and really soon because we are really struggling, if you can bear it look at the current form table, it makes pretty horrific reading.

Now is not the time to criticise or make unhelpful comments.

The situation SFC are now in was always likely to happen. Its what we do next that's important.

Personally I think we need to get one big name signing who have considerable experience. Then possibly two loan signings of players that can put the ball in the net.

RK needs to keep players fit and free from suspension.

Being out of the League Cup is no bad thing. The squad belief is now all important and we have a great manager and executives that will ensure our future success.

SFC have made great strides so far. We now need a period of calm and all will come right in the end.

Could I just ask why being out of the league cup is no bad thing. A two legged semi against a top club and then a major final at Wembley seems a much easier route to get to Europe, so I don't understand the no bad thing quote.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only positive spin to take from our exit out of the cup is that perhaps Koeman and the players will take lessons from this and use them to bounce back in the FA cup. But there's no guarantee we will get as safe a passage as we had there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Being out of the cup is a missed opportunity to play in Europe = more funds, how can that be 'not a bad thing?'

Criticism also shows passion, listening to the captains and Mangers analysis after the game both were critical, that's life. I wouldn't have been too disheartened if it was a premier league team, but unfortunately it was a League one team and well, we looked **ap.

Ronald needs to start finding plan b and c, and looking to good, experienced EPL players to help us more on and gain momentum

Perhaps gtsaint was suggesting that as our squad could not even fill the bench last night (and the quality was pretty poor) that a "cup run" could over stretch our resources?? With Morgan and Victor out for Saturday as a result of last night (which probably means Toby to play DMF) don't you feel he has a point?

Agree0 Disagree0

They only couldn't fill the bench because their preparation was unprofessional. They could easily have drafted in McCarthy, Seager, Sims, Rowe, Flanagan or AN Other from the under 21 squad a few miles South, getting ready for a meaningless game at Leicester.

They knew in advance that Pelle and Hesketh wouldn't be available and had doubts over Tadic and Davis. With four players out and the third choice keeper also with them in Sheffield in spite of there being no point in naming two goalkeepers on the bench, there's really no excuse for not calling up a replacement or two as cover.

And that would have enabled Victor, Morgan and Gardos to be available on Saturday??
Perhaps RoKo thinks it a little more professional for under 21s to play a competitive game, rather than sit on a bench! If not, there is always a job waiting for him at Chelsea. (I don't see any of the players you referenced as likely to have been ahead of the 3 subs used-yet.)

Agree0 Disagree0

I wasn't saying they would have made any difference, but for a Premier League side to not even turn up for a game with enough players even though they more than had the resources to do so asks questions of their preparation and overall attitude towards the match.

Which game was more important, the league cup q/f or the kids' match?

Far more important they played 90 minutes competitive game, as part of their development, rather than sat on a bench. How else will they develop to a point where they could be part of the senior side?

Not really trying to pick an argument, but it is obvious our squad is now very short on numbers who could feature and compete. We just need to accept that until suspensions/injury recovery and signings bring a change.
