IMO the only reason NC has left is money. it's the only reason anyone has left Southampton really. whether it is SFC not paying him enough, (Doubtful) or getting more from somebody else. Personally I think that he is, in effect, going to become self employed so that he can control his own future. Either by brokering a deal to sell SFC which as an employee would have been part of his job and would be heavily taxed on any bonus etc. or as everybody knows you only get mega-rich working for yourself not for rich families. He is an ambitious man and can prob see all the money flying in and out and wants a bigger piece. if he is boing to broker a deal to buy SFC rest assured that he will be part of it otherwise he would have stayed. just my opinion as a fan for 40+ years

Reports from St Mary's and Kathrina Liebherr saying that no players are for sale, and that Cortese left as she wanted a small amount of oversight over Cortese. Basically she had concerns about Cortese having a free hand.

The same report states that Cortese was offered an improved package.

I can see this, since it's well known that Cortese was a control freak.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cortese had full control right from when he and ML took over and there were no problems at the club. She has no buisness mind and MALI International (Markus' group of companies) has been on a downward spiral since she was put in charge, Cortese would have been right to not allow her any power at the club. I for one hope the rumours of him returning and taking over with someone else is true. Cortese over Katharina

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't be so negative and judgemental of Katherina! There are hundreds of reasons as to why the Mali group could be doing badly; we aren't exactly in good economic times. Also she has had no time do good for the club as a solo contributor, she's been in charge for two days without Cortese and you're already slagging her off. Lighten up!

Agree0 Disagree0

'With the death of the patron, the chicken has lost its head. For a while it continued wandering around without a sense of direction, then it bled to death' that has been quoted about the Mali Group since she took over.

Up until Markus died they we're doing well, in the same economic climate (which by the way has picked up in recent years).

'After his death at the age of 62 in August 2010 and the subsequent inheritance of Mali Holdings by Katharina, she decided to make 31 employees redundant and has since been accused of failing to set a new direction for the company. ' - That has been said

what i've said isn't harsh, it's true, if she wanted more control at the club, Cortese was right to deny her. And I for one am hoping Cortese buys the club from her and resumes his vision

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said everyone wants to calm down and give KL a chance , suggest we will all get a better idea of what's coming once we know who she appoints as COE. But I find it reassuring that she has already spoken out that no players will be sold in jan transfer window, unfortunately that won't be enough to stop the gutter press from trying to cause trouble suggesting fire scale to take place.

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly don't care what people have been saying about the Mali group and it's failures, Katherina deserves respect. A lot of people would like Cortese back but who knows if or when it'll happen. You should kinder in your words about people - no matter how factual you may be. Just be positive about all the good changes and not the bad ones

Agree0 Disagree0

Katharina deserves respect what for exactly? For inheriting her fathers life work and slowly running it into the ground? Just cause she's a woman? Why does she deserve respect? If people say that about her in business, an area she has grown up in, what is she going to do to a football club, that 1 she has no idea about, 2 has no idea how to run and 3 has no interest in running?

What good changes have occurred to be happy about?

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh my f*#k! What is wrong with you?! This is exactly what I'm talking about! Just be happy for things, southampton are 9th in the premier league, J rod is on fire, Lallana is playing for England, Osvlado can score wonder goals against Man City and Luke Shaw is leading the line of a very promising group of Southampton youth prospects!

Katherina deserves respect and support, she's been in charge for two days and you act like she's run the club into the ground.

Just be POSITIVE!

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats wrong with you more like. You still haven't told me why she *deserves* respect. She's done nothing at this club but force the main reason we are 9th in the the league (with J-Rod on fire, Lallana playing for England, Osvaldo scoring wonder goals vs City and Shaw leading some promising youth prospects) from the club.

She has no interest in this club apart from how much money she can make once it's sold. She has no interest in football nor any knowledge of the sport, how can you trust someone to appoint who's best for the club if they have no knowledge or even care?! Cortese may have run the club like a business and been harsh when he needed to, but atleast he loved the club and had it's best interest in mind with everything he done.

Agree0 Disagree0

Re earlier post slating KL`s business acumen, IF business in the Mali group is "without a sense of direction" etc, wtf would it make sense to sell when, as a business we are doing well, give her a freakin` chance.

COYS

Agree0 Disagree0

Cortese got paid millions as an annual salary so I would hope he did a good job for that which he did. Leibhers own the club not cortese so get over it

Agree0 Disagree0

The guy who keeps slagging of about KL screwing up the Mali group needs to read the article again as it refers to a small outfit that was rescued by Markus and admittedly did end up as a mess. It does not state that the whole Mali group has gone to the dogs. Time for some calm required until the longer term future is made clearer

Agree0 Disagree0

Trying to look through smoke and mirrors is good entertainment, but doesn't clarify much!

It does seem pretty likely the club will be sold but whilst that is happening the management and players will be retained, so that seems the best we can hope for. Don't expect too much re a new COE. If the club is being sold this is likely to be a shot term appointment as new owners would want to appoint their own person.

And IF the club is sold and IF the buyers see the full potential in the current project and IF NC is still available who might they see as the best person to run the club?

Lots of IFS but from a business point of view it could easily happen.

Never dull being a Saints supporter!

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Katherina may not care for football or the club and she may want to sell to take off some of the HUGE responsibility her father left her but for goodness sake she deserves some support in case she changes her mind!
So far she has stated that she won't sell any players. She has done nothing wrong, nothing to make you despise her like you seem to. don't be such a pessimist and look back on all the great things that have happened to the club in the last year I mentioned before and be happy about that.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we'll all feel a lot more comfortable once Kl has appointed a CEO. Once that happens we should find out what the plan for the future is.

If he is being brought in to sell the club, then I'm sure that there will be numerous interested parties, along with the odd rumour of Nicola in the wings.
Either way, there is no need to panic for the time being

I'm sorry but I'm fed up with everyone on here saying cortese left because he fell out with the owner or he's coming back with some Chinese consortium. Let's get realistic. The most likely reason he left us is because he's been offered something better elsewhere. It's not like Kathrina hasn't put her hand in her pocket. £70m+ in the last 2 seasons. There is no reason to doubt her loyalty as of yet. So can't see it being a lack of financial support. If it's true, which I expect it is, that ac Milan are after his services. Why wouldn't he go.
1. It's his home country.
2. They're a European giant.
3. He's previously quoted his admiration for the club. And said he based our new training facilities on there's.
He's a businessman. A bloody good one at that. I'm a saints fan but even I know it's no-brainer.
There was life before cortese and there will be life after him.
We've been left in worse circumstances than this.
It's now time to get behind the manager, the players and the leibherr family.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

All true. But didn't AC Milan come calling for him when we were in league 1/c'ship and Cortese stuck with Southampton?

Strange time to leave if Saints are on the up and just beginning their transformation under him. Especially since Lieberhh was giving him significant funds.

Probably just a disagreement on the clubs future plans.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ac millan did come calling when we was in league 1 lol

Agree0 Disagree0

AC Milan coming knocking for him and his rejection of them was the reason he praised them publically

Regardless of whether KL wants to sell the club at the end of the season, it is in her best interests to ensure that the club finishes as high as possible this season. Finishing higher is not only better from a football perspective, but also in that it will up the value of the club and its appeal to prospective purchasers, encourage the top players to stay, and will result in far greater income in terms of prize money and other income associated with ladder position. This is simply a logical conclusion which, given that she runs one of Europe's wealthiest and most successful dynasties, has no doubt occurred to KL.

On the above basis, two logical conclusions can be drawn about the Saints' playing squad:
1. None of our top players will be sold; and
2. If anything, KL has incentive to spend modestly in this window to improve our overall position (7th is a very realistic goal).

So all the panic merchants out there that take the Daily Mirror as gospel just need to calm down, and have a bit of faith.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Until kl clearly states what her intentions are it's difficult to say that players won, t be sold! One things for sure if they are without mps agreement we will quickly lose our manager as well. As I side issue interesting bit of news this morning quoting KL as saying she was surprised at NC resigning as he had been offered an increase in salary and KL had only wanted minor changes to how club was to be run.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unless KL has had enough pumping money into Saints and just wants to make a yearly profit.

She'd then be happy with what we have and our youth system and be content seeing Saints stay in the prem and turn a profit.

Cortese was ambitious for the stature for the club, KL will only care about profit. The club as an asset won't lose value if it drops a few places in the league.

10 Funny Things I've Actually Heard Football Fans Of Other Clubs Say:

1. "Saints manager Mauricio Pinocchio"
2. "I don't get why Adam Lallana's not in the France international squad!"
3. "Rickie Lambert won't join West Ham. He's going to be signed up instead by his elder brother at Villa"
4. "Asmir Begovic learnt how to score goals like THAT when he was at Portsmouth!"
5. "Southampton's biggest rivals are Northampton" (British geography lessons aren't what they used to be, eh?!)
6. "Nigel Adkins is pop star Adele's father" (same surname, got to be true, eh kid!)
7. "Le Tissier didn't really do much though did he?" (no, just scored over 200 goals including three or four of the best ever scored, and 47 successful penalties from 48 taken!)
8. "Southampton fans are naive to think it's 'good news' worth celebrating as street parties just because Pochettino announced he's staying!" (today on the radio, Mr Durham, I have now told you!)
9. "Southampton's new owners should sell their best players, just cash in on them, and go to Vegas and place it all on Red"
10. Quote anything to do with the bogus player ("George Weah's Cousin") Ali Dia.

Saint Etienne.
