I think if we are in for a striker we should go after John Guidetti, Sunderland and Feyenoord are in for him apparently. Thoughts?

Unbelievable0
Totally agree, good striker that would slot into our team, my only worry is he had one good season in the dutch league, and why are City reluctant to play him if he is so good?
Agree0

Sounds like Adrian from Athletico could be on the cards if we go in for him again. Plus there are other good options out there.
Agree0
Disagree0
City buy the best strikers in the world so I wouldn't worry about them not wanting him

What about Ibraham Affelay? Class player, never plays for Barca, he's 27, but would be a great signing, what does everyone think?
Believable0
Unbelievable0
{Ed001's Note - he spent last season on loan at Schalke, so it is probable they would be willing to sell him.}
Wages might be a bit steep and he will probably want CL. Would be a great signing though
Agree0

I doubt we'll be the only ones interested but could be a good signing and as Ed said he's been out on loan so will probably be sold

I have been following this site for a few weeks now and have become a bit alarmed with the fascination of youthful signings. I played to a reasonable amateur standard and cannot express enough the importance for experience on the pitch, I agree totally about having a high percentage of young players on the pitch, But they need marshalling, The sideline can only do so much. I learned and looked up to the older guys I played with, and then later on, helping the newbies myself when I was senior. So Why not bring 1 or 2 older faces, who have seen it all and maybe a couple at Their 'Peak', 27-29, we would certainly benefit in the short term next season if we are going to compete top half, otherwise wait a few yrs for success! Look at the Man Utd young team who could win Nothing, They weren't just youngsters!

It isn't us who decide about signing the players, its Cortese we just assume we won't sign older players as that is what he generally does. We will sign players that are older but not for a large fee. Older players we get will be free transfers or cut price deals eg Davis. Its Cortese's plan and its very similar to what Dortmund have been doing for the past 5-6 years and look were they are.

Spot on Saint IQ, Cortese is a business man at heart and will only sign older players for free or small fee. He wants younger players which can form a team and gel, with a high resale value should we need to sell, ie Clyne, Rodriguez, Cork
Agree0
Disagree0
We do have a fair bit of experience on the pitch for us. Players like Fonte, Davis, Boruc, Puncheon and Lambert all are the type of players who can take the team forwards. I think the policy is trying to find young and hungry players who can properly get integrated into the side and will be determined to prove themselves.

Sorry guys, I left the cage of my pet know-it-all unlocked and obviously he's escaped. Won't happen again, sorry.
Agree0

I agree an experienced CB would be good, a younger winger and a proven striker relatively young around peak sort of age (no older than 26)

According to Talksport.
Verona midfielder Emil Hallfredsson is on Southampton's radar as the Saints continue to build for the new Premier League season.
Mauricio Pochettino has been busy in the market so for this summer and pulled off a coup by landing Victor Wanyama from Celtic.
But the Saints manager plans to add to his squad further and a move for winger Hallfredsson is in the pipeline.
The 29-year-old Iceland international, who failed to make a single appearance for Tottenham during his two-year spell at White Hart Lane, is also on the radar of other Serie A clubs but is understood to favour a move to England.
Seems like a strange one to me - 29 y. o. doesn't really fit the MP/NC profile; and if he couldn't get a game for Spurs in 2 years, is he good enough?
MP knows better than me, though,

Don't build your hopes up of us signing Damiao because Napoli are after him - confirmed by sky sports. They are also after Higuain
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Sky sports have said this before and then it emerged to be total cr*p. I don't have high hopes either but don't take sky sports as gospel. Not always going to be right.
Agree0

Example today of 'Chelsea have offered 10M plus Mata (and or Luiz) for Rooney' loool they are a joke

You're a ''coffee cup'' if you think Sky Sports News is gospel, they're no different to a red top paper most of the time.

We need to make our signings soon, a CB, Winger and Striker is what we need, surprised we haven't signed anyone from La Liga as I thought Poch was planning on raiding La Liga, that's why I think a deal for Victor Ruiz or Adrian is on the cards, as for a winger, Thomas Ince would be brilliant, young with lots of potential, he would cost a bit but I reckon our top signings last year were Clyne and Rodrigues and not everyone was sure about the fee for Rodrigues until the end of this season, I think he'd be great, would love Damiao to sign, but I still don't see it happening, I think it will drag out for ages and never really happen
Believable0
Unbelievable0
No way will it drag out for ages! There is a deadline that his club have set and so if it will happen, it will happen soon.
Agree0
Disagree0
Ince has already turned down Prem football as he wants to stay close to his newborn child.
Agree0
Disagree0
He can move his newborn child, they aren't very big or heavy. If a good enough club comes in for him he will move.
Agree0

I think the Brazil transfer window shuts soon, so any deal would have to happen soon
Agree0
Disagree0
The Brazil transfer window closing just means that the teams can no loner buy. Players are still able to be bought from the Brazilian league.
Agree0
Disagree0
Yes but Internacional want a replacement, so if we buy him when the window is closed, they could be in trouble

Right I know that we haven't been linked with a striker apart from Damiao but as QPR are happy to listen to offers for Loic Remy, maybe he could be a back up to Lambert, any thoughts?
Believable0
Unbelievable0
He is class and exactly what we need. Problem is he has been charged with rape and his court case isn't till September so he could be signed then locked up in prison within the month! Teams won't move for him till January after the outcome of that case.
Agree0
Disagree0
Depends about his case, good player though, he wouldn't want to be Lamberts back up though!
Agree0

Have said this since QPR were relegated. Reckon would do a great job.
